WELL, this anime season is shaping up to be a great one.

So, fresh out the gate, we have this new anime called Kill la Kill, which is was created and being animated by Trigger, the same studio that created Gurren Lagaan. That alone should get you excited. :)

Anyways, this anime has a little similarity to the last anime I made a threat about, WataMote, and I say that because this anime centers around the slice of life type genre and, like WataMote, it takes it into a really weird/strange/hilarious/awesome direction. In WataMote's case, that was making things really awkward, But in Kill la Kill's case... it makes things SUPER FRICKING ACTION PACKED AND DOWN RIGHT INSANE! xD

This show is out of the loop. It's fast paced, it's in-your-face, and overall, it kicks ass. The first episode was aired last Thursday, and the first manga chapter was released yesterday, and here's the story so far: It revolves around this school called Honnoji Academy, which is run by the fearsome student council, who basically run the school under their president Satsuki Kyrruin. These students rule using Goku Uniforms (Yes, that is exactly what you think it means. lol) which are suits that give them incredible powers. The suits are numbered in rank by stars, with the council, of course, having the highest ranked, at 3 stars. Then it goes to 2 stars, for the council's goons and such, then to 1, then to no number; those are basically fodder. And as it is shown, a 1 star taking on a 3 star is like Pilaf taking on Beerus. No contest. So obviously, these guys are not to be messed with. Then along comes this exchange student named Ryuko Matoi, who is looking for the killer of her father; the killer left behind half of a giant pair of scissors, with Ryuko claiming the other half as her weapon while she tries to find the other pair, who she believes to be in the possession of Satsuki. The rest you have to watch the episode for, but I'll tell you one last thing: at some point, Ryuko finds a living school uniform called Senketsu, which gives her special powers that are able to help her combat Honnoji forces. Now, then, go watch the episode for the rest. :)

All in all, I think this series has had a really great start in it of itself, and Trigger is doing their best to really get people talking about. The animation is beautiful, the action is amazing and all over the place, and overall, the whole concept of it is really intriguing. I think this could be one of the best series of the year.

The same studio that created Gurren Lagaan.

When I watched Kill la Kill yesterday I was like: "This looks like Gurren Lagaan art", and apparently I was right. I had no idea, and so far im loving it :D

I was bored last night and decided to watch this on a whim... I ended up binge watching the first 5 episodes (Cruchyroll wouldn't let me watch the sixth, but today I found out that Hulu has it, so I'll watch there tonight).

The art style initially put me off, but I got used to it pretty quickly. It's incredibly amusing so far, good action and decent humor (not laugh out loud funny, for me, but enjoyably humorous nonetheless). It kind of feels like an anime that is supposed to parody anime in general, which I like. I definitely plan on keeping with it to the end.

*Mental note to self: Firaga Sensei has introduced me to two good anime in a row. Definitely listen to his recommendations in the future.*

I heard somebody describe it as the "lovechild of Gurren Lagaan and FLCL". Pretty accurate at the most. lol

Well, KLK fans, I have some bad news: Next week is the series finale, and even though it's been a long journey from episode 1 to episode 23, and then with next week's episode 24, I can't help but think that it's been worth it. I mean, everything about Kill La Kill has been fantastic from the get go: animation, story, characters, action (OH THE ACTION), comedy, over-the-top intensity, and something that I think is now an official trope in this series: Plot twists.

So I'd like to share some of my favorite things from the series so far, and I encourage the rest of you to do the same. :P They'll be in spoilers tags, of course, because seriously, they were so many damn twists in this show's plot, It must look like a pretzel by now. lol

Ah, where to begin... Well, let's see, and I might be alone on this, but whenever Ryuko's sidekick Mako Mankanshoku shows up, I can't help but love it. Yes, she's pretty much the Krillin to Ryuko's Goku, I know, but seriously, she's one of the main source of comedic pleasure in this show, and that's saying something considering most of the characters are hilarious in their own ways, especially Mako's family. (Btw, I need a Gutz plushie soooo bad. >_<) But anyways, Mako is funny as all hell, and her big ass speeches and fast-talking antics are always a joy to see on screen. And yes, I also love the Fight Club uniform. Can you blame me? lol She's got Jotaro swag.

Special note goes to the Elite Four as they are some of the most badass side characters I have ever witnessed in any series beforehand. I mean, when they show up, shit goes down. No other way to describe it. lol (Gamagoori and Nonon ( ) have to be my favorites btw.)

Also, like you could have told earlier, the action in this show is off the charts! Like really, this is some DragonBall Z shit laced with heroin! I don't even think I need to explain this, considering I have an action scene from this series as my signature. lol Just take that, and copy and paste the same type of ruthless badassery to all the other fight scenes in the show, and you'll get the idea.

Last thing: The twists. Oh, the twists. Like I said earlier, this has pretty much become a main trope of the show at this point. I mean, we start off episode 1 with this simple revenge plot with Ryuko taking on Satsuki and Honnouji Academy... and then it goes straight up the chain of craziness from there! We get Nudist Beach, the Revocs Corporation, Life Fibers, COVERS, aliens, psychopaths, tournaments, school raids, giant airships, AND my favorite twist of all: the reveal that Ryuko's father, Issin Matoi, was actually the husband of Ragyo Kiriyun (who at this point has to be one of my favorite animanga villains of all time), and in that in turn makes Ryuko and Satsuki SISTERS. ALL OF THE SHIT, THEY HAVE TO BE SISTERS. xD And now both of them are allies fighting against their mother and her evil Life Fiber/COVERS alien plans This is some Tekken bullshit right here, but I love the hell out of it. xD And I'm gonna love it more when Ryuko and Satsuki beat the shit out of Rags next week.

This show made me remember how much I loved anime. It's ridiculous in all the right ways. It's got drama, but the characters have enough humor so as to not make it mopey. It's fast-paced and action-packed and it's one of the few shows I've ever watched without a couple of days/week break between episodes.

I like most of the voices presented in that trailer, seems like it probably will be a good dub. That's great news.

And Kill La Kill, did feel like some of the older animes (older as in within the last 20 years) at least in writing style. And in a way its coloring also felt like some older animes.

And overall I think it was a good show.

GREAT NEWS! An OVA has been released as the 25th episode and final epilogue for Kill La Kill has been released today!

And how was it? It was just like the original series: AWESOME! in every way: animation, story, pacing, action, comedy, THE WHOLE WORKS!

Here's a quick synopsis. I'll try to be brief because believe me, you need to experience this by actually watching it, not just me explaining it:

2 weeks after the final battle with Ragyo and before the epilogue in Episode 24 where Ryuko and Mako have their date and all that fun stuff: its graduation day for the studetns at Honnouji Academy! As well as their (not to mention everybody in the slums) final sendoff to the Academy and city where it sits in so that they can all move away and start brand new lives. Ryuko and the gang return, and all seems fine and dandy... but then, shit happens. Shit in the form of crazy Life Fiber clones of Satsuki and the Elite Four, a giant self defense system activated robot made of the walls of the school itself, and the person behind all of this: Rei! That's right, Rei! The one character who barely got any screentime! lol She's back and she wants revenge for Ragyo, and she's pulling all the God damn stops to do it!

Now, at this point, if you've already watched the OVA, then here are my thoughts on some of things that happened:

Satsuki's character arc in this really came to a nice conclusion, maybe even better than the original series could have done. The whole idea of her going from the dictator of Honnouji Academy into a nicer and more normal person who no longer has to rely on "sharpening her blade" is really nice and I'm glad she got that. Also, the short hair from the epilogue makes a lot more sense and I'm pretty glad this is the reason why it was like that. :)

Everything having to do with Mako, the Elite Four, and Nudist Beach was fantastic and just as hilarious as you'd expect it to be. From Mako using her "HALLELUJAH" powers to control Rei's robot for a bit to Mikisugi's and the Four's debacle over the DTRs. Classic KLK right there. xD Also, shout out to all four of them in general for just being badass, and for being one of the best side casts I've ever seen in an anime. (Gamagoori, still my favorite character, and Nonon, you might not be my waifu anymore, but dammit, I still give you props for just being you... and for acknowledging how annoying you are. xD)

Rei's backstory and motivation was handled well. It really came out of left field for me, but hey, that's what you have to expect from Kill La Kill. I mean, I'd never expect that Rei was a survivor of an African tribe victim to a Civil War with Ragyo coming in to whisk her away on her crazy Life Fiber journey. Besides, seeing Ragyo in that camo outfit was pretty sick too. :P

Everything else, like I already said: awesome. No doubt about it. :D
