I've just been getting into the competitive battling thing, and I'm not too good with fore-sighting the opponent, which is why I suck at chess. Anyways, we'll just play for funsies! I wouldn't be so sure. Though I've been playing Pokemon for years, I've done next to nothing on the competitive side. When Shoddy Battle was the main battle simulator used, I did have two teams (one was dedicated to simply being annoying). I never won. Fore-sighting is one of my weaknesses with strategy as well. Playing for fun is alright by me, good luck to you! (Yeah, Chie's awesome!)

Custom Match only comes up if you manually click on someones username and challenge them. 

Random Match gives you a randomly generated team to fight against a stranger.

 

Try using Uber, OU or Mono type format.

I suggest trying Mono Type first, then if it doesn't let you go try OU or Uber. 

They have some restrictions, but in Custom Match you have no restrictions whatsoever.

You can try it against me if you want.
