Yu Gi Oh TCG\\Video Games (A Metal Snake rant)

(Yep,it's one of those rants,so get ready,because IT'S TIME TO D D D D  DDDDDDUEL!!!!)

 

 

Before I start,let me just say that I was a huge...HUGE fan of the Yu gi oh franchise,the anime,the card game,the video games

 

I spent a lot of time and money on this franchise from buying DvDs of the anime,buying card sets,and playing the video games

 

 

I spent countless hours playing some of the video games like The World Championship series on the DS up until 2008 and the GX Tag Force series on PSP

 

Heck,the cards from GX are my favorite Yu gi oh cards of all time

 

And don't get me started on the Duelist of Roses and Capsule Monster Colosseum on Ps2

 

I loved the ever living shit outta Yu gi oh that I couldn't just leave it.......................until 5Ds and Zexal screwed up everything and destroyed every single aspect I loved about the series.....let me explain it one by one starting from the anime and ending with the video games.

 

 

1The anime

 

While I didn't like the story of every arc in GX(except the first arc) from the society of light up until the anti-climactic duel between Jaden and Yugi,at least GX was somewhat watchable,if only for the cards

 

But 5Ds and Zexal were the epenemy of bullshit for me to the point I couldn't subject myself to praise them

 

First of,What's the point of the whole "DUELING ON MOTORCYCLE"????There is still no difference between a motorcycle duel and a regular duel,it's still play the same and the rules are still the same,so really,what's the point????

 

Motorcycle aside,the whole story and the duels occuring in the story is so anti-climactic,poorly written and stupid and I can't count how many times I said:WHAT,ARE YOU SERIOUS,BULLSHIT!!

 

The characters are so boring and their personalities are so paper thin it's absurd.

 

Yusei is like someone trying to do his best Yami Yugi(Pharoah Atem) impression but failing miserably,and his rival is just a more friendly version of Seto Kaiba

 

I won't bother talking about the rest of the characters because I didn't like any of them.I couldn't imagine the Yu gi oh anime is getting any worse than this,only to have Zexal proving me wrong,I couldn't subject myself to watch more than 6 episodes,I just screamed NO from the amount of bullshit I've seen,and I stopping watching the Yu gi oh anime since.

 

2The card game

 

Hey,remember how fun it was to build up your own unique strategy with your own unique set of cards???Remember how the card games were about Strategy and skill????Well,Konami's answer for that was:F.UCK BALANCE,LET US INTRODUCE THE MOST BROKEN CARDS WE CAN MAKE INTO THE SERIES AND MAKE ALL OLD CARDS OBSELETE.

 

And by that I mean syncrho summon and xyz(excess) summons,it's absurd how easy it is to pull of those summons with little to no skill involved and make fusion monsters almost entirely pointless,you can just do a little combo to summon with no polymarization or any fusion cards or special conditions for fusing,and it;s so apparent with the xyz summons,many times it takes just a few amount of tune monsters that are even in your hand with one on the field just to summon a powerful 3000+ atk monster...and you can do that IN YOUR FIRST FREAKIN TURN because of how easy it is.Not to mention that they're introduced a lot of monstersspelltrap cards with some of the most broken,over powered effects I ever seen,especially with effects related to decreasing the life point of your opponent.There was a time my opponent happened to conveniently have all of those cards in his hand just in his second turn,from monsters you discard to inflict 500 damage,to spell cards that deals damage,to an easy to chain trap cards........it became all about easy combos and broken summons

 

Not to mention it became pretty much REQUIRED to have your deck built with synchro and xyz cards in them to even stand a chance in the current meta game.If you have a deck made of a mix of the GX and the original sets with no synchros or xyz,you're officialy f.ucked.Because most if not all sets from the originals to GX have been decreased in value.Hell,even the Egyptian gods cards now worth nothing because they've introduced cars that are much broken than any of them.

 

I know change is bound to happened and I don't mind that,but this isn't the right kind of change,it's because of these stupid changes that most people no longer care about Yu gi oh tournaments.Heck,the Pokemon TCG this year got more coverage than what Yu gi oh had in years

I know it's possible to adapt to the current meta,but it's no longer about strategy anymore,it's now more about pulling cheap,easy to do combos that takes little to no strategy and filling your field with Monsters in one turn.For me,all the fun I had with the yu gi oh TCG game is gone.

 

3The video games:

 

I don't need to talk much about that because it speaks for itself:

 

No more unique spin-offs like Duelist of the Roses and Capsule Monster Colosseum

 

the main games have outdated ban list that's even a pre 2009 list old......and it's incredibly jarring in Yu gi oh 5Ds Decade Duels,both the original and the Plus version are a piece of shit with outdated ban list and sets,lack of modes,worthless glitched out DLC packs,and cheap AI right in your first duel in single player.

 

To sum it up,the franchise has lost it's way big time starting from 5Ds,I don't think I like it now as much as I did during the original and GX

Honestly, if you're willing to put in the work, you can build decent decks with no Exeeds or Synch's, but it's difficult. I find it lovely to trash Meta players with my Hero Gate Guardian deck, which (By a miracle) runs Hero Gate and Hero Beat at the same time and dose it well, especially with Super Poly trololing of their powerhouse monsters. Most of the time, I use Shining Recycle to get around their Bottomless Trap Hole and laugh at them squirming when I break their combos.

 

But yes, the game has gone downhill. It use to be about skill and fun, but then GX came in. Now, don't get me wrong, I love GX, it being my fav of the series(Sorry Yami, you were first, but Jaden was easier to me to attach to)But this is where broken cards really started coming around, and 5D's... I could stomach a few episodes, but after like 3, I gave up. It was one episode of Zexel for me and i nearly puked at the Main's VA.

What was the point of Card games on motorcycles? The point was to be different from the previous series. It was suppose to provide more action to the duels(leaning towards an older audience while still keeping it for everyone) via creators. As for Zexal, its plot is like the original Yugioh with minor differences. As someone who has watched from the original to 98 episodes of Zexal(after the random episodes with no plot, the plot comes around episode 20)....it is better than GX in every aspect, expect for character designs(for the younger audience). Though, it seems you watched 5D's and Zexal in its japanese version and not the 4kids version.

I still don't see the differences between a normal Duel and a motorcycle duel,it's exactly the same,you still lose when you run out of Life Points.

 

It's not like a 5Ds spin off game I've played on the Wii,There is two,one of them where it has a completely different rules  from a normal duel where you summon  a monster to shoot projectiles or paralyze other races and there are actual LAPS and a FINISH line.

 

In the anime,it's still no different than a regular duel except that the odds of you dying on a motorcycle duel are higher than a normal duel

 

 

And even if 5Ds and Zexal were good as animes

 

The cards they introduced were broken as shit and destroyed every sense of strategy that Yu gi oh had since the original up until the end of GX

I gave up after the original. Gameplay wise, I gave up in the mids of GX. Years later I find out about silver and black cards, and all me and my friends said was "I'm done."

I watched Yu gi oh on 4Kids in time when Youtube was still nothing

 

GX I watched the first arc and the society of Light arc on 4Kids....then I said f.uck it I'll watch the japanese version with subs....And I'm still pissed at the Last Episode duel between Yugi and Jaden

 

As for 5Ds and Zexal,I've seen them in Japanese,but that didn't help to cover the amount of bullshit and bad writing that I've seen in them
