Dave 5,715 Posted August 23, 2013 I like Kairi for the same reason I like Hayner, Pence, and Olette: she seems like a pretty nice person who I wouldn't mind hanging out with. I'm actually impressed with how they handled her personality to the point where she seems like a regular person. Nothing in her character seems exaggerated or archetype: she just seems like a genuinely good person, and I think that's kind of cool. As for the accusation that she's useless, well, I kind of like that too. I think the problem in video games is that people tend to think that if you can't mow down enemies, you have no intrinsic value. But actually, I can sympathize with that. Fact is, if thrown into a situation where the embodiment of mankind's sins are trying to eat your soul, I'd probably be somewhat worthless too. Indeed, that Kairi can't just become superspecialawesome in the blink of an eye makes it easier to relate to. 2 Dracozombie and Zola reacted to this
PublicLibraryx 55 Posted August 24, 2013 I like her because she has potential.
Javelin434 3,164 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) http://youtu.be/J-XQELx4-b8&autoplay=1 I like her because she is kind, generous, selfless and pretty. I could go on for examples of her great qualities but have already done so in another topic and can't be bothered. I think it's unfair to blame someone for a sexist industry that has a habit of making females damsels or sex objects, the industries changing but she hasn't been given enough screen time to show those who only see face value and can't find the deeper meaning behind actions. There is this... Hoooooo boy, where to begin... Why do I like her... Well, other than looks, her personality sticks out to me to begin with. Spunky, friendly, playful, charismatic and the fact that she really cares about her friends are just a few characteristics that really stand out for me in KH1. In KH2, she became much more mature, but still manages to show her tomboy-ish nature with actually being willing to fight Saix with nothing more than her bare fists rather than crying for help... But what really gets me is how important she is to Sora and Riku and to the game in general. Sora embarked on his adventures in KH1 because of wanting to search for Kairi and Riku, with the whole "saving the worlds" being a byproduct of his endeavors. Riku fell to the dark side for wanting to be strong enough to protect her from any harm. In Chain of Memories, she was the missing memory to completely restore Sora and it just outright stated that she is "the most important person to him." In KH2, she may be safe and sound until Axel decides to kidnap her [b@stard...], then yes Sora has to go rescue her again but she did try to escape on her own instead of waiting it out. Being important to the game in general? Listen carefully, and you'll hear her theme in almost all the games out there so far save for Re:Coded. (I haven't played 3D so I don't know if her theme is in there) The people saying "she's useless" are forgetting the fact of her importance to Sora and Riku, and instead focusing on the fact that she's not a keyblade wielder (until 3D). You don't have to be kicking a$$ alongside your friends to be important. The fact that she's the reason why Sora and Riku fight and well as they are who they are right now is more than enough to dismiss the useless aspect (Though I'm pretty sure KHInsider would say otherwise ) Hopefully she'll get more screentime in KH3, and with her being a keyblade wielder now, that just opens up a lot of opportunities for development. Dracozombie 4,554 Posted August 24, 2013 I don't actually like her, but Kairi haters are obnoxious, and I don't feel like allying myself them. It's more that I feel sorry for her. She doesn't get nearly as much development as she needs and people hate her for it instead of at least trying to be optimistic about it. I already essay'd my thoughts on her here: http://kh13.com/forum/topic/55341-why-kairi-gets-the-short-end-of-the-stick/ 1 Tigerruss reacted to this
Kittenz 4,281 Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) I prefer to look at all the evidence before i place my judgement, so heres why i like Kairi (Understatement, i freaking ADORE her) Reason 1 Kairi is actually more of a deconstruction of your usual damsel in distress The first time she was "kidnapped" she was in a coma, what was she she supposed to do?! Sleep walk? Her heart was in sora's and doubt her body was in much distress. Unless the eqvivalent of a corpse can feel distress. Then what happened? SHE SAVED SORA! Without him everyone would be sqrewed. The second time she was kidnapped she avoided axel, where terra would have considered his offer, given his record to trust obviously sinister ppl. Eventually, she ran into Saix who captured her(She didn't have a weapon and it was SAIX ) and then managed to escape on her own with Namine's help. I know the manga "isn't canon" but in the kh2 (japanese version) manga kairi tries to climb through the bars which she is nearly unable to do, and and then tries to find her way out, but is caught by saix, demyx and shit load of dusks. Again, what was she supposed to do? She was in the enemys HQ. I really doubt yuna would have done much better without her staff/guns. And if it wasn't for kairi, riku and sora would be stuck in the realm of darkness. Also, kairi isn't the only person to be kidnapped, Sora was kidnapped by young xehanort, axel kidnapped Xion, And again in the kh2 manga when sora runs into axel at hollow bastion and saix shows up, axel tries to grab sora and take him through the portal. And lets not forget Namine, i love namine but, compared to kairi she is well, pathetic. Namine gives in to the organisation, cannot fight, and is far more of a damsel in distress. And not to mention Shiki, she has hopeless written all over her. (I know, that sounds mean. :C ) And that brings me to reason 2, Kairi is kind and strong willed, and does many things to prove it if you really look at all the evidence. I really doubt that she would give in to the org the way Namine did, and to me, i relate to kairi alot because of that. I don't like people who are perfect, i like people who are kind and flawed, but strong. (Im not saying Namine is a perfect character but people seem to love aqua's character as though she is perfect, because she can fight, but ignore everything that makes her a good character) Kairi at least tries to fight, and i see alot of potential for her character, but, also, i've noticed people say things about kairi that are, in general, the same for other characters or just dumb arguments altogether. Examples: "Kairi isn't a good fighter"- Neither was sora. "Kairi is annoying" - thats what nearly all teenage girls sound like... "Kairi wears pink/is slutty" - Not once has kairi acted bitchy or slutty; Almost all anime girls wear short skirts, and heaps of characters from games do; Many girls wear pink, she also wears white, black, purple, yellow, blue; Her sleeves are rolled up to look close to her outfit from the first game and clothing design doesn't define a character anyway. "Kairi gets in the way so soriku" - No, she doesn't, sora, riku and kairi are bros for life("Riku, you're really here?" -kairi). And while i hate to burst your bubble, Kingdom hearts is a game and while i have nothing against boy/boy, its just not going to happen because 99% of games have little focus on romance and when they do...the guy ends up with a girl. You can ship what you want, but Sora and Riku are best friends and best friends cry and share bro hugs all the time where im from (Aus). I could go on and on as to why i like kairi, but i think thats enough Edited August 25, 2013 by Amelia Luscombe 1 Tigerruss reacted to this
Vanitas_ 16 Posted August 25, 2013 I feel like that she really just doesn't deserve a key blade... that's the only reason I dislike her. Like the secret ending of Dream Drop Distance? Really? Was it necessary to bring up again that she has a key blade? And my question is: is that the best secret ending we get for such a great game??? That??? It's terrible.. they need to just use her as a very small side character who practically doesn't even use her Keyblade... get Aqua more involved instead... she's cool. Anonn0000 3,525 Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) From what I remember of Kairi, I think she's a sweet character. She seems to care about her friends a lot and she has a cheery personality. From what I remember, I have to play kh1 and kh2 again. When I get a ps2 again. Edit; I do recall her having damsel-ish traits, which i don't really like much...but i think i like her better than xion i duno. *shrug* Edited August 25, 2013 by ~DawnStar2004~
Moogle13 55 Posted January 23, 2020 On 8/23/2013 at 10:05 AM, Dio Brando said: Well, she's the Princess Peach of the KH Universe She's barely doing anything and she were kidnapped three times: Once in KH1 Two times in KH2: once by Axel, the second time by Saix And don't tell me that her whacking with her new given keyblade in TWTNW is a skillful fighting because the only heartless she fought are only Shadows ,she never fought a single emblem heartless or even nobodies for that matter And I bet you right now that even with her training with Yen Sid to become a keyblade wielder, she'll get herself kidnapped by Master Xehanort and his new Organization XIII Mark my word,it's gonna happen Just browsing through the long lost parts of this website and I just have to say that this guy ended up being correct. Is the poster's account a writer for KH? XD it was pretty predictable, Kairi's always been sorta useless.
