xxClouDxxmoon 901 Posted August 17, 2013 Just sitting here listening to the credits of TLOU, and I just wanted to ask how people felt about the ending? Honestly I grew really attached to Joel and Ellie through the story, and was hoping for something really special for the ending. But honestly I felt like I was just dropped. I really didnt know how to feel. I was hoping for possibly the best game ending ever, something that left us really wandering but also something we will really remember. And I just didnt feel. But dont get me wrong its one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. Just wanted to throw my opinion out there and find out how you guys and gals felt about it? Geralt 4,874 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) I honestly liked it. I honestly didn't see it coming, I was thinking for sure that Ellie or Joel would die or something casual like that. But neither did, and Joel cared about Ellie so much he lied to her of the events that occurred. Of course it was a little rough to see, but it was a good ending in my opinion. xoblivionx13 1,133 Posted August 17, 2013 I honestly thought Ellie was going to die and Joel would be forever traumatized by it. But I didn't expect the Firefly group to do what they were going to do with Ellie as a cure....or the fact Joel lied to Ellie....and she knows. It was sad but a jaw drop moment for me. I dunno, it felt like a good cliffhanger for me ^^
phantomhive 26 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) At first I was a bit confused about it, I was thinking why such a build up just to end it like this.....But after I thought about it, the ending grew on me. I feel like it wasn't a cliche ending where you know they're going to make it out and rid the world of the cordicep infection. And it did leave me wanting for more, what happened to Joel and Ellie? What would be the ramifications of Joel's obvious lie? It left me in awe and speculation and that's what an ending to such a game should do. In short I liked it Edited August 17, 2013 by phantomhive
Revolart 431 Posted August 17, 2013 I'm satisfied with the ending. To me the ending shows that Joel is a human and a survivor in an apocalyptic world. He would do anything to survive and fight to protect people important to him( sounds so kh). His decision might be bad or good depending on how you look at it, but you have to rmb he is just a human being and the decision at the end made him more human. Shana09 5,769 Posted August 17, 2013 I had a conflicted feeling about the ending. I was expecting something so big but it was just "Okay". But the ending told us a lot about the relationship between Joel and Ellie and now the fact they survived is because they depend on each other than they really think they do. Hardrada 117 Posted August 17, 2013 It was good because of how unique it was. There's nothing wrong with subtle endings.
Hero of Winds 2,576 Posted August 17, 2013 I felt guilty and self-conscious about Joel's choice at the end. Though I expected more from the ending, I say we got a better ending than what we expected. I mean, Joel went from a simple fatherly attachment to Ellie to a highly obsessive attachment with just having a daughter back in his life. He killed more than necessary and partially lied to Ellie about it. I felt overwhelmed by his actions at the end, that he did what he did, but at the same time, I understood why Joel did it and overall became conflicted with the situation at hand. Cyber Shaman 990 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Ah yes the ending. Naughty Dog had a hard time coming up with an ending that's not cliche, nor obvious to predict. I must say though the ending was pretty well thought out and it was kinda sad in a way that makes the player think after awhile. Joel thought Ellie was gonna be happy being alive and living in peace but in reality she wanted to die serving her purpose. So in a way Joel didn't respect her wishes and now Ellie won't be in peace with her innerself Edited August 17, 2013 by Noel Vermilion
Junko 2,815 Posted August 17, 2013 Well you know, you expect Ellie to die and a cure would be made but that didn't happen. The ending was kinda intense in a way and i wasnt expecting it at all.
Rob 5,571 Posted August 18, 2013 I put myself in Joel's shoes and thought I probably would have done the same if it happened to me.
RoxSox 3,593 Posted August 22, 2013 I think anyone who thinks the ending was a "let down" or "it just drops off", was under the impression that it was going to be your typical video game ending. And The Last of Us is everything but typical. The ending was subtle, powerful, and it actually requires some thought from the player. I like that. When I say that I'm conflicted about the ending, it's not that I'm conflicted about whether or not I like it... no... it's that I'm conflicted as to how I actually feel about it. About what happened. 2 Hero of Winds and Demyx. reacted to this
