Was FF X hated by many many fans at its release in 2002?

Ive heard people comparing how many people hate XIII now, to how many people hated X when it first came out. But then over time, people realized it was a great and amazing game. Is that really true, or is it just bull?

I think most people loved it when it came out.

Since it was the first FF with voiced characters and had excellent graphics for it's time, it must have caused a lot of hype.

I never played FF X but I know it was pretty well received. FF XIII, on the other hand. Really deserves all the negative hype about it. It's really bad...

Actually the game had a reaaaally mixed opinion about it.

 

Critics praised it for it's graphics being the first FF game for Ps1,but a lot of people hated it for it's linearity,unskippable cutscenes,bad voice acting(Seriously just listen to Tidus)....pretty much everything XIII got crticized for X has it.But People began to love it as the years went by

I hope what happened to X happens to XIII and it gets more loved as the years go on. And yes, i know, Tidus's voice is kinda bad.

Critics maybe. But not fans. Trust me I was a teen when it came out. I know.

What I know is that people loved FFX a lot but hated FFXIII, they also usually compare FFX to FFXIII to tell how awful FXIII is. In any case I still love both and love all FF games.

To be honest I couldn't play X that much on my Ps2 because I lost the game's Disc when I moved.

 

But I'm willing to give it a shot since the battle system actually looked pretty good.

 

As for X-2........I won't say how bad it is...just look up Spoony's review of it

I'm pretty sure every Final Fantasy game goes through a cycle -- it's liked at first, then everyone starts hating it. FFX probably went through this too.

I dont think I have ever met anyone who dislike X, nor do I really remember anyone really disliking it at release. Personally I loved it from the day I got my hands on it. FFX tends to be a really big fan favourite, like FFVII. If I remember correctly back in PS2 days FFX had sold more copies then any other game, including in the release time-frame.

It's Opinionated, you can't really just deny it. But it's nice you're able to find the good in such a faulted and clearly rushed game. It is very pretty though, I'll give you that.

Yea, they must've been poking each other with sticks or something for at least two of those years. But, fair enough, would you prefer Uninspired? as a word that defines FF XIII? Oh! How 'bout a phrase, something like, "If I wanted to walk down a hallway for twenty hours and feel completely unaccomplished I'd go back to high school and slap myself periodically every two minutes cause that's what this game makes me feel like." Sorry, I get jaded when people deny someone's opinion, then try to use facts to try and again deny one's opinion and think a 4 year production time means something, because with 4 years that game should have been just under KH2 level, not a straight path where all you have to do is cast one spell, then just keep hitting X the whole time(I had a PS3, no idea how an Xbox 360 controller is set up).

 

Though I'll admit I'm a Square-Enix fan at heart and I still bought XII-2 and will buy Lightning Returns, I just don't have any high expectations for LR, it's going to be a severe waste of money but hey, I can have fun making fun of it.

 

But hey, you like it, that's great for you and means absolutely nothing to me. And I hate the game, which is great for me and SHOULD mean absolutely nothing to you. But apparently someone here is disrupting that by challenging someone's opinion like they're some third grader trying their very hardest not to wet their bed in a useless attempt to challenge me. 

 

Here are some facts for you, I hate FF XIII, because I feel it's a bad game, nothing you say will ever change that, and the mere fact that you challenged my opinion in the first place is why I"m pissed off. Learn to accept others and you may find happiness one day. Good luck to you in life my friend, I have stuff to do.
