Firaga 5,947 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) Alright, this thread is sleeping, so I'm gonna wake it up with this: I'm going to share my top three favorite fights in the DragonBall Z anime/manga. I just feel like going into one area because I have other favorites for other specific areas of the series. Anyways, here we go: 3. Piccolo VS Android 17 As you all know by now, Piccolo is my favorite character. He's cool, he's confident, and he's got a huge dang-a-lang (no homo). He's also the only one besides the Saiyans in DragonBall to kick some major ass in some very well choreographed fights. His fight with Android 17 is legendary. From the start, its just phenomenal, and it keeps getting better from there. Hand to hand, ki attacks, rushes. Hell, the two's fists go 3 feet into each other's stomachs. Damn. Personally, I wish it had a better ending rather than Piccolo getting all scared at Cell showing up, but oh well. It was still pretty good even at that. 2. Goku VS Frieza Not exactly a suprising choice, but hey, can you blame me? This fight (actually the saga where it came from) is a defining moment in DragonBall history; it helps transition the show from the lighthearted martial arts series it once was in the first half and the beginning of the second half into the more dark, edgy and intense series we know it as now. Frieza was a creul antagonist; the very alien who slaughtered Goku and Vegeta's people, and killed Goku's father. Seeing him and Goku go at it, with the pride of the Saiyans and the fate of the universe on the line, and seeing all the attacks, techniques, and of course, the first ever Super Saiyan transformation unfold, it really pushed DragonBall to a whole new level. 1. Goku VS Vegeta (Buu Saga) Epic. That's all that this battle is. If you thought the first fight between these two main characters was good in the Saiyan Saga... well, you haven't seen shit compared to the sequel. In this fight, so many awesome elements are in sync with each other: the story of Goku and Vegeta's rivalry mixed with Vegeta's pride and his want to be stronger than Goku; the epic choreography that pretty much had Goku and Vegeta neck and neck with one another; the amazing visuals and colors and animation and... oh God, needless to say, this fight was DRAGON BALLS TO THE WALL amazing! Well, there's my dollar and twenty five cents. I'll post more about my favorite fights from the first half of the series and the movies later. Well, there's my dollar and twenty five cents. I'll post more about my favorite fights from the first half of the series and the movies later. Since I have nothing to add, a minor note on the "balls to the wall" comment, it was a old saiyang in aviation when Fuel and Motor were controlled by balls in sacks, and a commanding officer would say "Balls to the walls" as a way of saying "put the petal to the metal" in an aviation-based way. Not joking. Anyway, on subjects of favorite fights, I found my favorite fight of the all the series was Piccolo Jr. vs Goku, because it was monumental as the final battle, and showed off the best of both fighters before things got messy with Super Saiyan's and OP attacks. Hopefully they can make it all the way to the end this time.
Reyn 1,755 Posted November 10, 2013 My fav. fights in DBZ would have to be these: Gohan vs Cell: This was definitely one of my most fav. fights in Z. It was where my favorite character, Gohan, finally got his chance to shine, and boy was it unbelievable. Sure the start was just Gohan dodging and taking some hits, but then his crowning moment of awesome came as he ascended to SSJ2 and he just beat down Cell like there was no tomorrow, when only Goku could just barely match him, and Cell wasn't even at his full power. Yet Gohan's power dwarfed Cell's maximum with ease, and the finale with the Kamehameha struggle was perfectly pitched. This is one part i prefer the Anime to the Manga, since the manga makes it so short, yet the original Anime spent an episode on this, and it felt perfectly pitched in my opinion. Goku vs Frieza: Like Firaga said, it was a point in the series where it took a darker turn, and the stakes were higher then ever. The battle was competitive at the start, with Goku matching Frieza for each blow before he powered up to 50% power. Then there was the epic curbstomping that Goku endured(like most good DB fights), and Goku going SSJ made it all the better. The ending with Goku seeming to obliterate Frieza was phenomenal. http://www.saiyanisland.com/2013/11/funimation-releasing-dragon-ball-z-on-blu-ray/ Well, looks like Funi is going to try putting DBZ on Blu Ray again, and it looks like they got the releases planned out for the first three seasons already. Hopefully they can make it all the way to the end this time. Wow, its the original series on Blu Ray, not Kai. SWEET! I might actually get this, if they hopefully go to the end of the series. Well, if it goes up to the Cell games at least, i'll be happy. That reminds me, still no word of BOG getting dubbed by Funi and coming to the states. And still no word of DBZ Kai coming to the states either. -__- Whats taking them so long? 1 Firaga reacted to this

Reyn 1,755 Posted November 10, 2013 Probably the Blu Rays ironically. Maybe. But its only for Japan that Kai is released on DVD early. For out of Japan, it would air on TV and then be released on DVD, so it can't be taking that long. 1 Firaga reacted to this
Firaga 5,947 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Okay, so a little while ago, I did a list on my favorite fights from the DragonBall Z anime/manga. Now I'm going to list off my favorite fights from the DragonBall Z movies. I've seen every movie so far, including Battle Of Gods, and I know from watching that there is ALWAYS high quality action in every movie (even Bio Broly -_-), so this list should be stacked with great fights. Some of you might not agree with them, still, but nevertheless, let's get to it: 3. Broly VS Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, and Piccolo (DBZ Movie 7: Legendary Super Saiyan Broly) Broly is a polarizing character in the DragonBall universe. The Japanese audience love him, and in the more international audience, people are split down the middle; they either love him for his big size and brutality, or hate him for being a one dimensional character that doesn't deserve three movies. Me? I'm in the middle. As a writer, I can see that Broly isn't too deep. He has an okay backstory, but really, it's subpar. I can forgive that to an extent tho, because although he was in the title of this movie in paticular, he wasn't really the main villain. What do I mean by that? Well, you'll have to watch the movie to find out. Anyways onto the fight: it was nonstop violence. The minute that Broly turned into a LSSJ, shit hit the fan. Everybody was ganging up on him, and he kept burying them all one by one like a Japanese version of the Hulk mixed with Triple H. It had some comedy relief with Roshi, and the whole thing with Vegeta being a pusscake is why this fight is at the bottom, tho. Plus the fact that it ended with a single punch. Not that it was a bad ending, but maybe it could have been a little flashier. Just Saiyan. 2. Goku & Vegeta VS Meta-Cooler (DBZ Movie 6: The Return Of Cooler) I was going to list off the fight from DBZ Movie 5: Cooler's Revenge with the fight being Goku VS Cooler, and then I remembered the fight from this movie, and I changed my mind. Cooler is a very popular character, as he is the brother of one of the most prominent villains in the series, Freeza, and he is the only villain besides Broly to have more than one movie centered around him. If I had to pick one movie character to be in the actual anime/manga, it would have to be Cooler. He's just that great. And the fight he had with Goku and Vegeta in his Meta form was a classic. The fight started with Goku, which was great, then Vegeta shows up and makes it better, to which Goku and Vegeta start tag teaming Cooler, going into what seems to be a fight between an army of Meta Cooler clones, but then transitioning to the inside of the Big Gete Star where it all ends with a giant boss fight against a giant Meta Cooler. If you've watched the movie or played the boss fight for Meta Cooler in UT, you know how awesome this fight was. Still, the transition between fighting Meta Cooler and his clones was a little meh, considering I really wanted to see Goku and Vegeta just plow through the dozens of clones instead of seeing a flash and then seeing them both captured, so a few points taken off for that. 1. Goku & Vegeta/Gogeta VS Janemba (DBZ Movie 12: Fusion Reborn) I know you were expecting Goku VS Bills, but guess what?! It's too obvious! I'm not gonna cop out and give it the number one spot. Sorry, but this fight just has to take the cake for me. It combines SO many elements into one, and all these elements are what make DragonBall the best anime/manga in existence: high quality animation (like dat jelly bean infested Hellscape or dat SSJ3 transformation), giant boss battles (Goku fighting Janemba's first form), great action sequences (SSJ3 Goku VS Super Janemba in ITS ENTIRETY, and not to mention Gogeta VS Janemba) and even a little comedy (Veku VS Janemba was really hilarious. And of course, Janemba's first form antics made me laugh). Absolutey great. And you know what makes it better? This video had no mention of Piccolo. PICCOLO! My main man! And I STILL love this fight and this movie! It's just that awesome! And here you have it. Next list should be my favorite fights from the orginal DragonBall anime and first part of the manga. That'll be a while though, I'm rusty with those parts of the series. Edited January 21, 2014 by Firaga Sensei
DAMN 80 Posted November 13, 2013 Should have ended at Frieza...it just was boring after it...the show lost focus on what it was about(the firetrucking Dragonballs like the title indicates) and it became a dick competition about a smaller dick getting beat by a bigger dick and then that small dick would get angry and transform into his....Super Form...The Super Dick which would make him a bigger dick than the previous big dick and was able to....out-dick him...or something Anyways...Toriyama already said Bills was the strongest in the Universe...not that i care

Firaga 5,947 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) Originally, I had this idea posted in its own thread, but I decided I wanted to bring it over to the main thread, and here's what it is: I think it would be really cool, now that DragonBall Z is in a state of somewhat "revival" thanks to the Battle Of Gods movie, that maybe sometime in the future, possibly next year to celebrate the series's 30th anniversary (1984-2014 ), that the DragonBall series can get an OVA series ala Hellsing Ultimate. What do I mean by this? Simple. We take all the arcs in DragonBall and smush them into an hour or hour-and-a-half OVA specials that cover each and every inch of the DragonBall story. From the Pilaf Saga to the Buu Saga, we'll get brand new animation, ala Battle Of Gods style, or even better, with new voice acting, soundtrack, and all the bells and whistles. I don't know how these would organized entirely, considering there is so much to cover. My guess would be we have the first half of DragonBall (maybe called the Kid Goku Saga) in one special, covering the Pilaf Saga to Piccolo Jr. Saga and then have four more episodes that cover the Saiyan, Freeza, Android, and Buu Sagas of Z. In any case, I think this would be a great idea to see the original story in updated, modern format and visuals, and maybe something to get the n00bs into the series too. Dio Brando 5,810 Posted November 19, 2013 I want an OVA series for DBZ that act as the new canon for Dragon Ball Z and completely retcon and erase everything...and I mean EVERYTHING related to GT I want something that redeems the boredom of the Majin Buu Saga,I want something that erases GT's taste from my mouth I want something as great as the Saiyan Saga and the Cell saga but with an original story that continues after the the Buu saga 1 Reyn reacted to this
Firaga 5,947 Posted January 18, 2014 You know, last year when I posted that trailer for the Blu Rays for DragonBall Z, I had some hope, hope that we'd get a really good re-release of Z with a format that everybody could enjoy. In a nutshell, though, it was all ruined when I realized the picture quality of this release is basically a hi-definition, 2014 edition of the Orange Bricks. *sigh* The saddest part is that we asked for this. Yeah, that's right, we ASKED for this. Well, not really "us" in a sense, but part of "us", and I mean the part of us that didn't enjoy the format of the Level Blu-Rays back when they were still being done b/c of how the 4:3 footage was being remastered and re-sized to the screen. Appparantly, these MORONS don't understand the simple fact of what happens when you try to put 4:3 footage in a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is what this new Season sets are doing: the picture is being cropped, we're losing footage and details from the show, and it just looks awful. The only saving grace this set has is that it didn't go through a "grain removal machine" like the Orange Bricks did, and it actually looks half decent. Still, the aspect ratio is still an issue and something that should be MANDATORY when releasing this type of stuff. But no. If you don't mind me, I'm just gonna go on Amazon now and look at some prices for the Dragon Boxes...
