Chapter II: Kingdom Hearts

Thomas sulked late into the night wondering, yet again, why his keyblade wouldnt appear. He picked up the small wooden sword, that he usually used for training, and bashed it against the training dummy. The dummy spun and knocked him on the back of the head. He landed face first into the ground and laid there for a moment that seem to go on forever. Gripping the sword tightly, Thomas rose to his knee and striked the dummy behind him. In an instant all the training dolls had been cut down by a flash of light, and in Thomas's hand was his Keyblade.

The Ultima-Weapon.

Thomas rose to his feet, with an enormous grin on his face. "I did it," He wispeared, "I did it!" He jumped up and down, laughing. A distant sound came from the equipment shed. Clapping. Master Erin was leaning against the shed clapping in praise for his young apprentice. Thomas fell silent and looked down at his feet. He couldnt believe his master had been watching him this whole time. Erin walked over to his young pupil and grasped his shoulders, "That was excellent! I think that was the first time you've cleared the course in one blow!" Thomas continued to look at his feet, "It was an accident i didn't even mean to..." Erin patted the boy's shoulders, "No Thomas it was no accident that was your power. Yours and yours alone."

The two laid in the grass staring up at the heart shaped moon. Thomas's earlier question still pondered in his mind, but before he could even open his mouth his master answered.

"A long time ago there was a war. Countless Keyblade Wielders fought one another. Light and Dark. The darkness was sure to win for it exceeded the light by extraordinary measures. Once the battle had neared its end only one bearer of light remained. The Darkness was sure that it had won and prepared to annihilate him. This man did die, but not by the darks hand. He sacrificed his own heart and gathered the hearts of his fallen comrades and they banded together into a magnificent creation. Kingdom Hearts." Erin paused his story and looked to his apprentice who had fallen asleep there under the stary sky.

Erin took Thomas inside and laid him to bed in his room. Before Erin left the room, he paused at the door and muttered somthing under his breath. "...and those two were the result..."

Chapter III: The Truth (part 1)

A knock came to the door as Xander and Michelle had anticipated. Michelle opened the door to Erin and he walked inside. The room was quiet. They sat on the two couches in silence until Erin spoke. "You didn't answer my question earlier. How well have things been going with those two?" Xander was the first to answer. "I assume you mean the condition of both Xana ans Sarrin?" Michelle sighed. "Neither of them exhibit any signs of displaying their true natures. It's been the same all this time. They grow stronger and stronger but they still remain oblivious to themselves."

Erin spoke after a moment of silence. "I told the story to Thomas again." Xander's eyes grew wide. "I trust you still didn't tell him the whole truth?" Erin paused before answering. "I have no intention on lying to him, but no i didn't tell him he fell asleep before i finished." Michelle continued the story as if it was impulse that compelled her. "The countless hearts banded together to create something magnificent. Kingdom Hearts. The man of pure heart disappeared, but not completely..." The other two listened intently unaware that beyond the door into the hallway someone else was listening as well. "From his heart bore a Heartless, and from his empty shell bore a Nobody. These two foul creations disappeared as quickly as they had appeared until they were prepared to be truly born..."

Michelle stopped, unwilling to continue, and Erin finished for her. "And then one day after many years had passed three masters found the bodies of two children with no memories of who or what they were. The masters knew what they were, because they were found in the exact place the age old battle had taken place..." Xander stood. "And it now its left to us to finish that story."

Erin stood as well. "On another note how is your experiment going Michelle?" Michelle pondered her thoughts. "It will be ready tomorrow, but i trust that you already knew that or you wouldn't have come tonight. We can prepare for the three of them in the morning, I just hope that in doing this we don't harm young Thomas in the process...." Erin looked at her reassuringly. "Thomas will be fine. If all goes well meeting her will benefit him the most." Xander spoke with more seriousness than Erin had expected. "Now tell us, what is your prediction for the other two?"

Erin turned his back and gazed out the window at the heart shaped moon. "Our goal is make sure they both are able to walk away from what they truly are and become denizens of light...or at least thats what i hope...if this does not lead us closer to that direction than I cant say what we'll have to do...it's not possible for us to do anything but this. Michelle what exactly is her purpose for this anyhow?" She realized he was talking to her after a brief moment. "She is supposed to be able to compel them to sense what they truly are without causing them to fall victim to their true selves." Xander spoke before Erin had the chance to. "Sounds good in theory I suppose. I think we should go along with this for the time being and see how things develop." Erin smiled as Xander had said most of what he had planned to. "Alright then lets move what needs to be moved over to my basement. we can use that for your research and we'll move some of your personal belongings to the spare rooms. We began at first light."

The other listener, who had remained silent the entire time, smiled at the discovery of this new development, and walked away in silence. As a plan began to forge in his mind he chuckled slightly.

Chapter IV: The Rouge Experiment

Thomas awoke to Xana shaking him vigorously, "Wake up you numskull!" Thomas's vision blurred into focus, "Whats wrong Xana? What are you doing here?" Thomas sat up in his bed, scratching his head, "Michelle and Xander are gone! And i cant find Sarrin or Erin either!" Thomas got out of bed and they left the cottage.

Thomas walked through the training grounds, where he and his master had been last night, "He never said anything about going anywhere..." Xana stopped walking, "I'm sure they just had something impor-" Xana was interrupted by a course of explosions. Thomas was the first to notice them. "Xana...didn't those come from-" Xana started running. "The Lab!"

They kept running until Thomas realized something odd. "Xana wait a second.." Xana stopped unwillingly, "What!? We need to hurry!" Thomas spoke sceptically. "I can understand the masters disappearing without notice... but-" Xana was growing impatient, "Whatever it is it can wait! Let's go!" Thomas decided it could wait. They started running again and kept running until they reached the research facility.

Xana stopped dead in his tracks at the sight of the burning structure that was still ablaze. In the midst of the flames a frail figure rose from the rubble. Thomas was surprised by the sight he was witnessing, Xana... who is that?...Xana?" Xana was frozen in place, as if he was in a daze. Thomas shook Xana, but he only collapsed to the ground. "Xana whats with you?! Get up! C'mon get...up?" Thomas felt distracted. He felt like he was being drawn to the ominous figure that stood before him. It was a girl, wrapped in a dusty old sheet. Her grey eyes seemed almost void of life, as she gazed absently at him. "W-who are you...?" Thomas could barley from the words in his mouth. She walked towards Thomas until her face was only a few inches from his. "It's sad..." Her voice was barely a whisper. Thomas stood there, motionlessly, unable to move.

The girl spoke faintly as she walked away. "Your heart is so...sad... it's going to be put through so much..." Thomas snapped out of his daze. "Wait! What are you talking about?!" She started running and Thomas chased after her. Thomas stopped and realized he had forgotten all about Xana, but when he looked back he was gone. "Whats going on...?" Thomas muttered to himself.

Chapter V: Anya

Xana awoke much later that night with his head pounding and his mind in a daze. He suddenly remembered Thomas and tried to raise himself off the ground, but failed as he collapsed. "What happened to me...?" He mumbled to himself. Xana quickly realized where he was. The research facility, or at least what was left of it. "Hello my friend. I trust you slept well?" Xana's eyes grew wide at the sound of the familiar voice. He quickly turned around to face the familiar person and the two lifeless bodies at their feet.

After giving up on looking for Xana, Thomas started looking for the strange girl. He ran in the same direction she had wondered off to, but had no luck as he progressed. Thomas eventually stopped to rest in a field of grass and boulders, and watched as the sun set and the heart shaped moon began to rise. A faint cry came from behind the boulder he was resting against. He crept, slowly around the boulder, attempting to sneak up on whoever was behind it. It was the girl. She was sitting there crying, with her knees hugged to her chest.

Thomas didn't know what to do, so he just sat there until she spoke. "Who are you?" She managed. "I-I'm Thomas." She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "I'm Anya..." Thomas sat beside her cautiously. "Whats wrong?" She wiped away her tears. "I'm not sure... after i saw what was inside your heart my chest started to ache and I started crying..." Thomas looked at her strangely. "What do you mean "what you saw in my heart"?" Anya hugged him and started crying again. "Thomas you cannot go back to back to that place! Something terrible is about to happen!" Thomas looked at her shocked. "What are you talking about? Whats going to happen?" Anya gazed into his eyes and spoke softly. "Do you know the story about the man with the pure heart?"

Thomas stared at her realizing she was talking about the story Master Erin had told him about Kingdom Hearts. "I've only heard about how he sacrificed himself to create Kingdom Hearts." She looked away from him. "Do you know what happens to a person once they lose their heart?" Thomas looked at her stunned. "A Heartless and Nobody are born right? Wait. What does that have to do with that man? Are you saying-" "Yes." She interrupted him. "The Heartless and Nobody of that man reside in this world. They weren't born like the others of their kind though, they both kept a piece of that mans heart, and with that they became what they are today..." Thomas backed away from her. "W-who are they?" He barely managed to say. She looked at him with what looked like sorrow in her eyes. "The reason why your heart is sad..."

After countless moments of silence between the two of them, Thomas decided to go back to the facility, which was probably nothing more than a pile of rubble now, and find out what was going on. Anya stood immediately. "No! I cant let you!" She stood there with her arms spread wide, with the sheet covering her slightly falling off. Thomas quickly looked away, and handed her his overcoat. "Look lets get you to my masters home, and we can talk there."

They weren't very far, from where they were headed. Once they reached the cottage, Thomas realized that it was still empty. He lead her inside and left her on the couch while he went to find her some clothes. Thomas noticed, after walking past the rooms, that the empty ones were now filled with things that seemed to belong to both Master Michelle and Xander. "Wait...what? Why were their things here? Why weren't they at the lab when it was destroyed?" Thomas realized why he had come up there and grabbed some of Michelle's clothes.

They were a bit big on her but they would do for now, He thought to himself. "Now tell me whats going on." She looked at him for a brief moment before turning away. "I don't know anything else. I only told you what was in your heart..." Thomas and Anya, both sat in silence until Anya eventually fell asleep on the couch. Thomas stared out the window, at the heart shaped moon that now hung high in the sky. He knew where he had to go, but he was afraid of what awaited him. He rose to his feet and summoned his Keyblade. It came to him in an instant. "Good still there..." He whispered. Before walking out the front door he took one last look at Anya and left, heading out into the night.

Thomas arrived at the ruins of the research facility that was now nothing more than a few stone pillars sticking out of the ground surrounded by rubble. Thomas walked slowly, unaware of what was to come. He stopped at the sight of Xana laying on the ground, glaring at something. "Xana!" Thomas yelled. Xana stared at Thomas with his eyes growing wide. "No Thomas run!" By the time Thomas had stopped he had already seen the two lifeless bodies, and the familiar figure looming over them. He looked in horror at the figure and uttered only one word. "...Sarrin..."
