Tails 6,690 Posted June 28, 2013 Okay, so a lot of us know that Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most hated FF game ever and a lot of people bash the game.. Well, i thought that i would point out reasons why everyone hates the game and why it sucks. Well, to start things off the main reason people seem to hate it is because of the linear pathway. Which i can agree on because you can only go forward and can't even go back if you want to level grind or something. Which is totally stupid. I mean, if you're in a boss battle and can't beat it because maybe you're underleveled and you want to level grind to get stronger then you can't because the game on't let you. And i find it kinda stupid that the only time you can roam freely i when you get to that large area (yeah i forgot the name of it ). And then there's the battle system. I really hate the battle system in both XIII and XIII-2. I mean why does the game have you automatically attack enemies instead of doing it yourself like in the past FF games? I honestly don't like it. I mean you're basically watching your party members do all the fighting instead of you doing it yourself. Another thing people seem to hate about XIII is the fact that the game forcefully chooses your party members. Now this is REALLY stupid part of FF XIII imo. Why can't we just choose what characters we want in our party like any other JRPG? Why does the game forcefully decide for you? I mean what if someone wants to have a different character? This is one of the things I really hate about XIII And last but not least. The fact that the game plays like a movie more than a game. Here's what you're mainly doing thorughout the entire game: "Keep going straight. Incoming cutscene after you've taken the first five steps. Now go forward again and take another five steps to enter into another cutscene.". The game seems to feel more like a movie to me with this type of gameplay and the CGI-like graphics. And that's why everyone hates Final Fantasy XIII folks 5 Daniel Black, Henne, Isaix and 2 others reacted to this

darkchaser 788 Posted June 28, 2013 I did like 13 a bit, but i also hated some of the things in the game. The linear path got on my nerve. More so after beating FFXIII I started playing FFVII and felt more love for it. Now the game does allow you to choose who you play as but only after a certain point which suck because it should have been like that from the start. Thankfully to me it looks like SE has fix some of those problems in LRFFXIII

Shulk 8,623 Posted June 28, 2013 I've never played XIII, but I've heard enough to know that I wouldn't like it. Not to mention that the battle system looks overly complicated and confusing from the gameplay videos I've seen. I also don't like the characters from what I've heard, they all sound really stale. Of course, some other recent FF games had boring characters, too. Honestly, I think that XII, 12, is the worst FF game. XIII sounds kinda close, though. 1 Dio Brando reacted to this
Dio Brando 5,810 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Yeah XIII-2 is a bit better because you can actually roam around more freely. Though i wish we had actual party members instead of those monsters that you have to catch and have them on your side. The monsters are an attempt from Square to mix Pokemon with Final Fantasy, but the problem with the monsters is that most of them are the same only a different recolored, armored version of said monster with a different paradigms unlike Pokemon that has over 600 UNIQUE MONSTER TO CATCH,also, catching them is annoying as you can't track their location on the map because they didn't include an iconic feature that Pokemon had,......A POKEDEX THAT SHOWS THEIR EXACT LOCATION THEY APPEAR IN. The monster journal completion(a.k.a complete the Pokedex) quest in Academia 4XX AF is a chore because you can't properly track the monsters without a help from the internet. Also, catching them is random as you can increase the percentage of catching by using Feral Link attacks but it's not convenient as throwing a Pokeball Edited June 28, 2013 by Metal Snake

The second fight is actually easier than the first one.The only hard part about the second fight is that he casts doom when he's low on HP and you need to be prepared to kill him as quick as possible before you die

Shana09 5,769 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) The funny thing about FFXIII is that there was similar criticism to when FFX arrived. People complained it was when the series became awful. People complained the characters and their VA are awful. People complained it's too linear. Then 3 - 4 years later, everyone loved it. I've seen people starting to like FFXIII more now instead of the time when it comes out. Heck many games have this sort of criticism. The linear pathway isn't that big of a deal, we've seen enough linear pathways in many games including the FF series itself. It's nothing new. Imo I like FFXIII, even if the battle system is more automatic, it still allows strategy on paradigms and making the battle system a bit more automatic helps make it a bit more comfortable. Honestly using paradigms and not having the auto-attack button would've made it a bit more confusing, since the enemies attack quickly. I mean if you don't have strategy on most of the boss battles and some enemies you are firetrucked. They do not. Yeah half way through the game it is forced because it is essential to the story. There's nothing wrong with that. Then comes Gran Pulse and then you get to have your party switched freely between those 6 characters. Metal Gear Solid 3 is more of a cutscene walkthrough than FFXIII, plus theres a very good balance between cutscenes and gameplay. I mean, the gameplay was crap and needed to be fixed (Xenoblade is a perfect example of how that type of gameplay SHOULD be done), but if I can't give a crap for the story, then I really don't want to have to deal with a crappy game. the characters were all too annoying for me to deal with, the story was just a bunch of confusing politics, and let's not forget Vaan... Actually, let's forget him. I don't want to have to think about that guy ever again. As for XIII, the linearity is definitely a big turn-off for me as well. I don't like games that are TOO open, but I don't like straight paths usually, either. Especially if it's an RPG. One reason why FFVI is my favorite is because there were so many sidequests, so much to do. If it was just a straight path, it wouldn't have been nearly as fun. I've played a few (XIII included) and I can't even get through that junkyard area since it's soo boring I hate the linearity of the levels... All I ever did the whole game was walk, fight monsters (button mashing automatic). Also battle system is boring... the paradigms are cool, but I don't really care for it either way And my biggest problem is the characters Snow is annoying and just boring/whiny Hope is annoying/ whiny Sazh was pretty cool... seemed human enough and interesting I only really liked Vanille because she's so light and bubbly for no reason and I like Lightning... because she punches Snow a lot

And that's why everyone hates Final Fantasy XIII folks I agree with some of your reasons. Yes the game is boring until chapter 11(the name of that area is the overworld of Gran Pulse), when you free roam. I thuroughly enjoy the battle system, its cool. Its like ANY OTHER JRPG, since you CAN CHOOSE YOUR COMMANDS IF YOU GO TO ABILITIES AND NOT CHOOSE AUTO BATTLE. But no one bothered to try that save for the ones of us that actually liked the game and continued to play. Its alot more strategic, with the Paridigms, which is a cool step forward from other FF games. The reason the game chooses your party members for part of the game is because of STORY. Remember in the start of VI, you couldn't choose your own party, until when everyone united at the place where Terra is at the start of the game, after the 3 scenarios. The same reason you couldn't choose your party until up to that point was for the same reason you couldn't do it in XIII. PLOT REASONS. You gotta deal with that. The funny thing about FFXIII is that there was similar criticism to when FFX arrived. People complained it was when the series became awful. People complained the characters and their VA are awful. People complained it's too linear. Then 3 - 4 years later, everyone loved it. I've seen people starting to like FFXIII more now instead of the time when it comes out. This^ Look guys, We can all agree most of XIII up to Ch. 11 was boring and too linear. I agree on that. But the battle system really depends on what kinda player you are for you to like it. You can still choose the commands on what your characters do if you choose ABILITIES and not AUTO BATTLE. That's your own fault if you didn't like that. The thing is, everyone expected XIII to be groundbreaking because it was the first(and so far only) FF for PS3. Well Square took a different approach with this game, and while it couldn't please some fans, it pleased many others, myself included. Point is, XIII is supposed to be different from other FF games. Its why its won over many fans AND HAS GOTTEN 2 SEQUELS. If the game was really as much shit as you all claim it is, it would never have gotten XIII-2 and LR FF XIII to be created. Besides, the XIII series has evolved and gotten better through its trilogy, it hasn't gotten any worse. I mean, in XIII-2, you get the free roam you wanted, and lots and lots of more side quests. It also made it a bit like pokemon, in the respect that you can catch monsters, and who doesn't like Pokemon? Now in LR FF XIII, its more of an Action Based RPG, like KH, and everyone here like KH. It looks like it'll have many sidequests as XIII-2, and due to the large world of LR FF XIII, there's going to be TONS OF FREE ROAM FOR SURE. Not to mention, IT STILL HAS THE INCREDIBLY DEPTHFUL AND COMPLICATED STORY THAT MOST FINAL FANTASY GAMES HAVE ASWELL!! The Linearity in XIII, made for a story MORE FOCUSED ON THE CHARACTERS AND HOW THEY CHANGE AND GROW DUE TO THE SITUATION. I understand why you most of you hate the original XIII, but give the SEQUELS A TRY. THEY ARE SO MUCH BETTER, SO TRY THEM AND THEN DECIDE IF YOU TRULY HATE THE SERIES. The thing is that in FF XIII there is thing called Auto-Battle, it chooses those attacks for you so you don't anymore need strategy or you don't need to think what skills you want to use since game chooses best option for you automatically. In battles you literally only need to have one offensive paradigm, one for healing and one for debuffing enemies. Then you press X multiple times. At least in Persona games or older FFs I still had to do more stuff by myself, like choosing my abilities and having to think my next move a little bit

And that's why everyone hates Final Fantasy XIII folks I've been trying to like the FF series.. I've played a few (XIII included) and I can't even get through that junkyard area since it's soo boring I hate the linearity of the levels... All I ever did the whole game was walk, fight monsters (button mashing automatic). Also battle system is boring... the paradigms are cool, but I don't really care for it either way And my biggest problem is the characters Snow is annoying and just boring/whiny Hope is annoying/ whiny Sazh was pretty cool... seemed human enough and interesting I only really liked Vanille because she's so light and bubbly for no reason and I like Lightning... because she punches Snow a lot I love the game, it looks amazing. I agree with some of your reasons. Ok ... in order to answer this (My opinion) First of all, there were like 18 threads abouth how much love/hate FFXIII. One more wasn`t nessesary. Now continuing with this.... In order of Quote: Red (Disagree), Blue (Important but not as bad), Green (I agree) Gray (I seriously have my reserves) For Tails: 1.- Yes... that hell oh hallway... geez... 2.- Archlyte Steppe and It was kinda dissapointed... also.. many were hunting missions so... u.u 3.- I can´t agree here... yes the battle system is too automatic, but it can be changed to manual, also the franchise needs to evolve... and for better or worse it need to go through try and fail for making it so. It´s something natural. 4.- I was kinda annoying with this. They could use this as a movie instead a game.. but well... good attepm, bad results... 5.- Not everyone hate it. But also not everybody loves it. Usually is according to age and time of gaming... for me.. i´m more from old school (graphics< gameplay <Story) ... but this is the next phase of evolution of videogame... you like it or not... so... well... For FireRubies: 1.- The lack of development of characters was too visible. In comparison with the other games (4-10) of the franchise, you feeled emphaty for the characters, you were feeling what they feeled... now in FFXIII (and previous) The emphaty is almost gone... leaving "Cooler characters without a solid background... not bad but not good either.... For Sora96: If you are comparing just graphics... then... no. Graphics are not everything in a game, it´s a part but is not all. If you say it as overall.. then is good but not as amazing. There are better. For Spiderfreak: 1.- True. In FF 4-10 you used your characters in the right moment+ in XIII you can adjust to play manually. 2.- I didn´t feeled the paradigms as a "Amazing Innovation" for the franchise. 3.- OR the game was incomplete and they needed to focus on 3 parts to make it one. ( The ending in FFXIII was enough in my opinion). Plus it could be for marketing and, I hope I will be mistaken, overuse of a game name. 4.- Well.... the DLC, the alternate endings that didn´t help a lot... and the more "Gothic lolita" style is getting the game.... O.O Concept art is fine but... LR FFXIII when I saw Lumina... "WTH?" Plus LRFFXIII is not out yet. So we can´t guarantee that it will be "The best game of all" for now. 5.- Same like 4. Until it´s ended.... you cannot be sure of that... 6.- This is hard... I liked the mithology... It remembered me the FFVI myth of the warring triad. But as the story in general.. the paradoxes in FFXIII-2 don´t end to convince me... as well Caius... but I can´t say anything for sure just now... this part of story is still on the limb until LR goes out. In general: NOt a good game of FF but it has it`s good side... (music for example... except the sunleth waterscape... too much pop like) so It´s not one which i can play multiple times.. one was enough like VIII but is not the end of the world... X-2 and XII were more bad.... and there these are. I actually really couldnt care less if someone said that to me, its the internet? Also by people buying the game they supported it, but doesnt mean they liked it. I know like 15 people who bought it when it first came out, and they all regretted it. And also I still stand with the thought that if someone actually enjoyed FFXIII they have a bad taste in video games. But dont worry, no matter how bad a game is there will always be 1 person that likes it. Oh, and I didnt say people who like it are retards, I said the battle system was built for retards. Prove me wrong. I don´t think so. IT´s just another generation of players. 2 FireRubies1 and Reyn reacted to this
