So do you think that Vanitas will come back in KH3? It will be introduced in 2.5 and knowing Nomura I wouldn't be surprised.
We know that sora has the ability to "bring people back" as stated in previous games scenes and secret endings.
Specially in Dream Drop Distance:

Minute 4:16

"Perhaps he has the power to bring back the hearts and existences of those connected to him, to recreate people we thought were lost to us forever. Our most precious treasures, even an empty puppet, the trees in the forest, and the petals on the wind. There are hearts around us everywhere we look, and it does not take super human powers to see them. Surely we remember as children the way our hearts made everything seem so shiny, and perfect. Sora has a heart like that, uncorrupted, willing to see the good before the bad. When he sees the heart in something it then becomes real, When a connection seems broken he may have the power to mend it."

Beside the OBVIOUS,  Xion, Roxas and Ventus there is also Vanitas which is connected with both Sora and Ventus.

Maybe just maybe he might be something to look up to as an enemy and maybe later on the game an Ally? He sacrifices himself at the end? xD  What do you think of this theory? Might it be possible? Having him first as antagonist would also add extra enemies besides heartless and nobody we would also have unversed.

What do you think?

I seriously doubt that he will be even close to a good guy. I wonder if Ven even needs Vanitas' piece of his heart, with his heart residing in Sora and all. I also wouldn't be surprised if he was already in that room, with that smug little face under his hood (like if you would love to see him brought down by Ventus [again])

I seriously doubt that he'll return because he was a horrible character in BBS.

As much as I thought he was pretty badass in his battles, characterwise he just seemed pretty bland. He played his role in BBS and I could only see his as, like you guys mentioned, one of the Thirteen Darknesses.

I'm pretty sure that paragraph was meant for Roxas and Xion.

But yeah, it's likely that he'll be back as a darkness.

Some people think he can't come back because Ventus destroyed him, To that I say bah!

Vanitas was a being crated from pure darkness.

Darkness cannot be destroyed.

At most his physical shell was destroyed, but his consciousness could still exist somewhere deep inside Ventus's heart, and if his consciousness exists, he can return. I also wouldn't rule him out as eventually becoming an ally. Despite it's corrosive nature, penchant for destruction and ability to corrupt a heart, Darkness in and of itself is not inherently evil. Riku has proven that. He may not be able to open CoDs anymore but he still uses plenty of darkness-based abilities.

According to the BbS novels (I know, non-canon but hear me out) upon his creation, Vanitas had no purpose or sense of self (or even a face), but because he was part of Ven he felt his counterparts emotions. The fact that Ven was happy with his new friends while Vanitas was all alone pissed the latter off and cause him to resent the former. Xehanort used this resentment to his advantage, telling him that his purpose was to crate the x-Blade and that in doing so he would be rid of the burden of feeling Ven's emotions once and for all.

If Vanitas learns that he was being used, I could easily see him turning against Xehanort as he never had any real loyalty to him in the first place. This was shown by the fact that he attempted to kill Ven multiple times throughout the game, despite Xehanort's specific orders not to do do until Ven was strong enough to fulfill his role.

That being said, weather or not a character returns depends largely on their popularity within both the fanbase and the staff. The best example of this was Axel. In early scripts of CoM he was intended to die and stay that way. Because he was popular with the staff, the script was re-written and his existence was allowed to extend into KHII, and his popularity with the fanbase allowed him to return as his original self in 3D. So weather or not Vanitas comes back relies upon weather or not enough people want him to.

Horrible character ???

Ok your opinion...

Not opinion, fact. He was bland, monotone most of the time, was only there for plot (like some members of Org XIII who didn't even matter), and wasn't even that threatening as a villain. He's almost as useless as Pete sometimes as a villain, except Pete's actually amusing most of the time.

Like I said, he's badass during the fights, but that's about it. I used to think that Vanitas was the best, and then I really re-evaluated hum and he comes off as boring. Sorry if you get butthurt, but it's true.

But that's still your opinion not a fact. That's really what you think of the character. In my opinion Vanitas was more threatening and more useful as a villain than Pete. Pete is not a big threat as much as Vanitas. I only see Pete as a comic relief villain and nothing else.

I honestly think Vanitas was already one of Xehanort's Seekers of Darkness but than again he may not be. I feel the battle between Vanitas and Ventus is not over yet so I hope he comes back in Kingdom Hearts 3.

I don't want Vanitas back, for the reasons that Samuel Hernandez has already said.

I agree with you both about Vanitas as a character but regardless I think he's practically guaranteed to return as a darkness anyways  .Pete actually accomplished things once in awhile unlike Vanitas who pretty much was one big fail .

Never said Vanitas wasn't threatening. Obvs him and Ventus' merging would spell the end of the worlds. BUT they way the game portrayed him made him feel not as threatening as Pete. Sure Pete is comic relief, but he has somewhat succeeded in the past by almost changing time in the Timeless River, succeeding in turning Scar into a heartless *spoiler alert* lol, and even surviving in The World That Never Was along with Maleficent. All Vanitas has done was wait till Ventus got stronger, pushed a few buttons, and copped out by having the Unversed hold Ventus down to merge. Sure Pete's a coward, but he got his hands dirty many times. He was threatening to the point that he needed to be locked away in the realm of darkness until Maleficent busted him out.

I know opinion is subjective, but there are some things that can't be ignored.

I got a couple already lol

Having him return is unnecessary, but will probably happen regardless. Axel is a prime example of characters returning due to fan response. But to be fair Nomura also really liked him too so that played a key factor

Vanitas was threatening. Vanitas almost killed Ventus after their first battle but Mickey save Ventus after that. Vanitas said he would choke the life out Terra and Aqua to force Ventus to fight him. Which that was part of the plan all along. They needed Ventus to be stronger so he and Vanitas can form the X-Blade and open Kingdom Hearts but Ventus over power him and defeat him. And Vanitas did struck Aqua down with his keyblade but that hit was just a knockout and that hit could have really kill her. Vanitas was actually more threatening than Pete. And Pete was never threatening and he never do anything as threatening as Vanitas. Pete almost succeed in Timeless River but he failed in the end. True Pete did succeed by tuning Scar into a heartless. And holding Queen Minnie as a hostage in Dream Drop Distance was not threatening enough because could have been easily defeated.
