DragonMaster 1,166 Posted August 3, 2015 Should I buy the Wii U Pro Controller and risk the price rising for the Shulk amiibo, OR should I pass on the controller for now and get the Monado Boy we've all been waiting for? I could ALSO buy the amiibo with a controller called the Nyko Pro Commander, but I'm afraid at half the price, I'd only get 1/5th the lifespan. Thoughts? So I was right. I happened to see a 1v1 tourney on YouTube and thought it was user-created. Sorry, NL! If you're definitely sure you want the Shulk amiibo (considering you thought about buying it for $40, I'd say you are), then my advice would be to buy it now. If you wait, the price might shoot back up, and you'll have missed your chance. It is also possible that the price may go down further, but unless there's a reprint I don't see that as likely, and it would basically become a gamble with skewed odds. The Pro Controllers aren't going anywhere in stock or price, so there's no risk in waiting until you can afford one again. I also had the same issue where I played with the gamepad and just felt off while playing (I think the size of the controller was subtly making my mind trip up, for some reason). I got a pro controller and felt comfortable using it. I don't like it as much as a GameCube controller simply because I love the form factor of the GC (so comfy), but it is completely functional and shouldn't be hard to adapt to if you've been using the gamepad. *Impatiently waiting for Lucina figma* Hope she doesn't get delayed AGAIN for like the FIFTH time! That stinks. X_X I hope you get it soon. I've always thought figmas looked really cool, but I've never actually purchased one.

Hero of Winds 2,576 Posted August 4, 2015 (edited) Yikes, I would be so mad at that point. X_X That's kind of ridiculous. Lucina is probably the most popular figma by this point. The delays are so they can ensure that they have enough inventory to meet their number of consumers. You know something a certain manufacturer should do with their figure line. She's scheduled for this month right now. April, June, August. Either it releases or I'm waiting until October... Thanks a bunch! I have decided to invest in a Shulk amiibo this time around. IN FACT I got an even BETTER deal. There are afterglow controllers available for the Wii U by a 3rd party that have great customer reviews and is cheaper! ($3.00 over budget. Wonder if I could squeeze it outta my sister). So I can get both the amiibo and a sweet controller. So I think I'm gonna go with that end. So I can get both the amiibo and a sweet controller. So I think I'm gonna go with that end. I was also going to suggest the amiibo since the price could go up (I remember back when it was $25, then I ended up having to pay $32 for it a few weeks later ._.), but it looks like you've come to your decision already. Either way, hopefully the new controller works for you, and hope you enjoy the amiibo! On the subject of controllers, I get the feeling I'm the only one here who uses the Gamepad. ._. I like the extra screen and its layout. It's big, but it's the controller I'd say I'm at my best with. Don't have a Gamecube adapter yet (Going to pick up a Mayflash adapter at some point since Nintendo's kinda sucks... not sure who had the bright idea to make it work with just one game), but at this point, I doubt I could go back to the Gamecube controller since I haven't used it for Smash in ages. The 3DS isn't bad, but it's kind of weird using it as a controller for a console game. I used the Pro Controller back when Best Buy had a demo of Smash 4, and I admittedly wasn't a big fan of it. It might have been because I was tossed into a new game with a new controller and no clue how to use it, but it didn't work out well for me personally. It's a good thing Smash offers so many controller options, though, seeing as how everyone has their preferred option. 1 Reyn reacted to this

I like the Gamepad too, simply because of its ease and the second screen I can use when my brother's playing on the TV. Although the bulkiness is not my style for Smash Bros., I think it is a pretty great addition to the Wii U solely because it is reminiscent of Nintendo's will to break free from tradition and take risks. I do find it very creative in other games that utilize the Gamepad more. Edited August 4, 2015 by Sun Wukong 1 Shulk reacted to this

A lot of games just used it as a second screen, but some games use it really well. It makes sense that Smash doesn't use the Gamepad in a special way since that would probably give the Gamepad player an advantage. I use the gamepad when i'm playing against streamers. It's great to use, but ive friends who only want to use it so i have to give it up then. All of my friends usually use their 3DS, at least until someone shows up with the Gamecube adapter. It's rare that I have competition for the Gamepad, I always thought it was one of the more unpopular controller choices. 1 Clouded Sun reacted to this
Clouded Sun 1,232 Posted August 5, 2015 So let's say Sakurai updates Tourney mode with a feature for 1v1 bracket Tourneys... Are you still willing to host it, Shulk? And is it gonna be a one-day thing, or is it going over the course of multiple days?
Reyn 1,755 Posted August 5, 2015 I like the gamepad too, it feels pretty comfy to use compared to like Wii mote and nunchuk. I have been thinking about getting a classic controller though, since ive tried them before and they feel almost as comfy as a gamepad, at least the control scheme is the same anyway. I'll probably make it last a few days so everyone can join in without having to worry about their schedules. Also, a bracket tournament update would be amazing, especially if it also works offline. However, that has nothing to do with the rest of the subject. SmashLegendRiku 97 Posted August 27, 2015 I'm really indifferent to all this: supposing if Sakurai wants as many DLC characters as possible than sure I'm all for Shovel Knight. But if there's only going to be a planned set amount of DLC characters, then please no; someone like Shantae or even Rayman would make a better pick for Third-party DLC. Also, I'm really hoping the DLC isn't just returning characters and Third-party reps, because I really want some surprise entry Nintendo characters like Wii Fit Trainer. Shulk 8,623 Posted August 31, 2015 To be fair, Nintendo never said Ryu and Roy were gonna be out the same day as Lucas. True, but that was the big E3 surprise for Smash Bros. Dropping a major update on an ordinary day of the week, especially after they would have the chance to release something during PAX, just seems weird to me. It's possible, but I don't think it's very likely.
