It's extremely unnatural after years of it not being there. Just so everyone knows, I'm buying out every Wave 4 amiibo (except Charizard) and every Toad amiibo. I'll be selling them on ebay $50 a pop, if you'd like to prepay me now, that'd be great.

I personally think that Melee is the better game to spectate, but I fully support both games at the event. Hype! I'm personally not that into the competitive side because of all the Melee fanboys who act superior to fans of the other games and treat them like unplayable trash (Not saying anyone on here is like this, but I have seen quite a few people who will refuse to accept any of the good points of any Smash game past Melee), although I did read about that. I'm honestly surprised Smash 4 made it in for reasons I stated earlier, but I'm glad to see it getting recognition with that side of the fanbase. I hope it won't end up as another Brawl to them. I doubt I'll end up watching EVO, but it's still nice to see that the super competitive side of the fanbase is being accepting of a game other than Melee for once (I don't count Project M since that's not only a hack, but essentially makes Brawl an expansion of Melee with new characters and stages). Once it develops, you'll start to see players picking the higher tiered characters, because they're just better. Hell, a lot of people can agree Diddy Kong, Sheik, ZZS and Rosaluma are the best right now. Unless we see something that can rock the metagame for Sm4sh, I don't see it changing anytime soon. I actually think that's a lot of viable characters. (You also forgot Peach, Yoshi, Sheik, Jugglypuff, Dr. Mario, and Samus.) The reason you'll find those characters in Melee a lot is because they're objectively better. Pichu isn't even good character. The reason you see people playing him is because they're messing around. People in tournaments can destroy top tier opponents with someone like Yoshi or Ness as long as there's a show of skill. Characters aren't objectively better than other ones, it takes player skill. You're right, but I think you don't understand why tier lists exist. The character gives them the potential to be good. Using a bad character essentially gimps your ability. If you're good enough, you'll be able to beat anyone with any character. But that's humanly impossible. (At least for right now. Mew2King might become a robot.) Characters like Fox and Falco are so high because they give players the ability to have the highest skill ceiling. They have options for almost every character. To put it in sm4sh terms, Diddy Kong is so high right now because he is the one of the only members in the sm4sh cast that has a true, reliable combo. Down Throw to up air. He also has side-b, which is probably the best move on Diddy Kong. It can grab, hit, and recover. If you expect a kick and shield, Diddy can just grab you. If you expect a kick and jump, he can just up air you. He's crazy good right now.

Almost every character can stop that move with any simple attack to special attack. Do people even think about every possibility?
Kyouma-Blade 90 Posted January 23, 2015 He's side b is so useless though. You'd have to really stupid to just jump or shield. Almost every character can stop that move with any simple attack to special attack. Do people even think about every possibility? It's far too fast to be able to react to it every time he uses it. Whoever you're playing against clearly isn't using Diddy to his fullest extent, which is another example of characters giving potential only. Here's a person who looks like he knows far more about Diddy Kong's side-b than I do. ShinadoSlash: The air grab part of this move makes it vital for Diddy's mixup and conditioning game. The natural reaction to a Diddy holding a banana is to block a lot. Knowing the opponent will be sitting in shield waiting for the banana toss means you can do a side B instead which not only does decent damage but is also a kill move at higher percents. The kick portion also plays into this conditioning game. Once you successfully side B grabbed them a few times they will likely start to spot dodge a lot. If they do you simply cancel the side B into the kick portion which has a lot of active frames and can often punish it. This move is also a good recovery tool. In most situations a Diddy Kong should commit to this if they are forced to recover with a special instead of up B because up B is far more telegraphed and easier to react to (and thus more likely to be interrupted). I love seeing people winning with low tier characters heck the SF community are doing that all the time Even if it's for messing around I don't mind it as long as the player is competent as they're gonna display someone who isn't the same goddamn character whom I saw 103810382 times already And I disagree,it all depends on skill and a skilled player can make even the worst character look good I dunno if Melee is god or not but I'm looking for the Smash 4 tournament way more than Melee cuz even with the current top tier I'd rather see Rosalina and Luma over Fox anytime of the day

But anyone with their head screwed on right will ever play Pichu in a tourney. They put money on the line so they can show off their skill and get the big pot. Using such a bad character will limit their skill. No way you can argue that. They may look good, but at the end of the day, it's never practical, and will get bodied by someone who's using a higher tier character with the same amount of skill. You're saying you'd rather see Rosaluma over Fox because you've already seen Fox a lot before. The same thing will happen to Sm4sh. I will get sick of the Diddy Kongs, the Rosalumas and the Zero Suit Samuses. I will, if no one can mix up how they play with the character.

You're over-exaggerating and you know that. The Melee scene is not only Fox and Final Destination. I'm already sick of Diddy Kong at the very least, because his gameplay is very bland, but reliable for winning games. I can't fault the players for playing the game to win, because they get money by doing so. I will fault how so little characters get combos though. Like I said before, I don't follow competitive play much, but my friends do. Whenever they play Melee or Project M, it's always the same 4 stages, usually Final Destination. My exposure to competitive play is mostly just Final Destination. There's not much variety when they play, which is why I usually stick to Smash 4 when we all play Smash games. Melee's a good game, but the repetitiveness of every competitive match I've seen has made me stay away from it for a long time. 2 Hero of Winds and Dio Brando reacted to this

Except most of us are talking about how tiers are stupid and limit choices in the game. I hate tiers because no one actually tries anything new. None of my favorite characters have been considered "high tier" by the Melee fanboys and competitive group, but I still try to learn the best strategies for each one of them and just focus on having fun instead of treating a game in which 4 (or now 8) Nintendo characters all gather and beat the crap out of each other because they feel like it as a super serious thing. 1 Dio Brando reacted to this
