  1. 1. What would make you buy an Xbox One?

    • A lower price: $500 is too steep.
      8
    • Get rid of the 24 hr online check-in requirement.
      8
    • Exclusive games.
      5
    • Nothing. Microsoft has lost me as a consumer/I'm just not interested in what they're offering.

    • Different reason?
      4
    • I'm already planning on buying an Xbox One.

Guys, I'm noticing a bad trend here, and it better stop.

IF ALL YOU ARE GOING TO POST IS TRASH TALK, THEN LEAVE.

Seriously, comments like that add nothing to the discussion. All they do is get other people made. There are ways to express dislike for something without being a jerk or making yourself look stupid.

Well, opinions are still opinions. You can't expect everyone to make positive posts about the Xbox One. I mean sure some of them sound like they are trashing the new system but keep in mind that this is all just matter of opinion. Weather that comment is talks about it in a good or bad way. If you don't like the "trash talk" then simply either ignore it or just delete the post. Not need to lock the entire topic all because of a few negative posts. Becuase eventually someone else will make another discussion topic about the Xbox One.

it's called a "discussion topic" for a reason. To discuss our thoughts on the system weather it be a good or bad comment. I don't really see a reason to lock an entire thread when you can just delete the ones making negative comment on the Microsoft's new system.

I'm not gonna lock the thread, there would be no point. I just don't want to keep deleting post after post. And criticism is not the same thing as trash talk.

This is a good post:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/21/xbox-one-doesnt-require-internet-connection?abthid=519bcae0af9d6f5043000037

Okay. So, let's read this quote:

Another Microsoft representative, UK marketing director Harvey Eagle, has confirmed that the Xbox One doesn't require a constant internet connection. "The answer to that question is no. You do not require an always-on connection to be able to use Xbox One," he said. "It is clearly designed to be connected to the Internet, and hopefully from what you've just seen you realize some of the benefits that brings. But if your Internet connection drops, you will still be able to play games, still be able to watch Blu-Ray movies, and still be able to watch live TV."

So basically... "No, you don't technically have to be connected to the internet to turn your system on and play the games you already had to register online, but you really should be connected all the time anyway because of all our super cool internet-exclusive features!"

I'm sorry, but when all your gimmicky features are built around the internet, there is no way you can convince me that this system wasn't Always On and that they backpedalled when the rage rose from the rumors. It's a bait and switch. They cover their ass by making it not-forced-to-be-connected, but still maintain all their features that require the internet anyway... the possibility that you have to install and register your games online, the possibility that you have to pay a fee online to play a used game, the possibility of cloud based gaming and cloud based computing, all your TV and entertainment bull, and of course the XBOX Live we've all come to know and "love".

When you buy this system, regardless of whether you have to be Online constantly, to enjoy it in the slightest you WILL have to be always on, which is basically the same damn thing.

... (Insert rest of post here)

This isn't (self made example):

"Lulz xbox1 more like s***box. M$ failed again."

If anyone wants to discuss this further, PM me. Keep the thread on topic.

They've confirmed E3 will focus more on games

Interesting....very interesting.

June 10th at E3

Well Nintendo doesn't have any other media to worry about and they've been doing games for years so it's no surprise.

Can someone tell me why I keep thinking Xbox one has kingdom hearts?

It doesn't that we know of and it hasn't been announced. Nor have there been any rumors of it to my knowledge.

Also, the Xbox Support twitter has confirmed that there will be no fee for using Xbox One games on a different account.

Well that's at least one consolation. That would have been pretty ridiculous.

The new xbox does require connection Internet. Correct me if i'm wrong.

The Xbox One doesn't have to be online all the time, but it does have to be online. Not just once in a while—once a day, according to Microsoft vice president Phil Harrison.

In a Q&A on their press site for the new Xbox, Microsoft tackles the always-on question with a strangely-worded answer: "No, it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet."

At the event in Redmond today, Kotaku boss Stephen Totilo asked Phil Harrison for clarification on this. And what Harrison told us might not please people who enjoy playing Xbox on military bases or other locations without Internet.

"There are many devices in your life that require the Internet to function," he said. "Xbox One is no different in that it requires, at some point in the beginning and at various times through its on state, to connect to our cloud and to our Internet. That is to deliver Xbox Live functionality, that is to deliver download content to you, that is to deliver some of the innovations around TV and entertainment that we showed today. But it doesn’t require it to be online all the time."

So how often does it check your connection? "Depends on the experience," Harrison said.

"For single-player games that don’t require connectivity to Xbox Live, you should be able to play those without interruption should your Internet connection go down. Blu-ray movies and other downloaded entertainment should be accessible when your Internet connection may be interrupted. But the device is fundamentally designed to be expanded and extended by the Internet as many devices are today."

And here's the bombshell:

Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?

Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.

So the system is built to work even if your Internet connection goes down, but you still have to be connected at least once a day to use it, according to Harrison. We're not sure exactly what would happen if you don't connect once per day—and that timeframe could change—but this doesn't sound good for anyone who was hoping to use Xbox One without an Internet connection.

Well, I hope XBox1 owners live in a perfect world where storms never knock out the internet or internet providers have technical difficulties that last longer than 24 hours.  Honestly, why build that function in?  What purpose does it serve?

It's simple: Money.

pretty much you can use it without internet but to get the full extent of the console you'll need internet.

The Xbox One is an "Entertainment Console" rather than a "Video Game Console".

Technically video games are entertainment so it's a full entertainment package! 8D Music, TV, Movies, Games, Interwebz. Woot!

I know, but they spent too much time talking about watching tv, internet explorer, and whatever else it does. Hope they have some good titles to show at E3 though...

You forgot about sports.

Xbox Japan put a translated version of the reveal up for Japan and here are some of the comments they've had for it.

"It seems like the day has come for me to leave the Xbox. It's total nonsense that there is no backwards compatibility. Ah, but if The Idolmaster 3 comes out, I guess I'll have to buy it..."

"Television. The NFL. These things seem the biggest, but in Japan, they're totally irrelevant. For Japan, it's totally over. It's at the point where it doesn't matter if this doesn't sell in Japan."

"I gathered that they didn't think about Japan at all."

"I'm looking forward to the new Kinect."

"The PS4 [reveal] had more of a technical rundown, so it was more interesting."

"Western internet forums are on fire. lol"

"It was like, you can play those [old games] on the 360."

"Well, the controller didn't get worse. But, whatever..."

"Even if the functionality is increased, what you end up with is an old PC. It's okay they are putting effort into TV and video services. I don't need that, though, because I'm enjoying my PC gamer life."

"Put together a presentation for gamers."

"I wonder how Americans are gaming at home. Whenever I'm playing a game, I never feel like I want to watch TV, so the ability to switch between the two makes no sense to me."

"They [Microsoft] are not looking at Sony or Nintendo, but are frantically coming up with countermeasures for Apple and Google."

"And here, I thought they were going put out something with amazingly high specs..."

"The only thing I thought was amazing was the multi-tasking."

"Kinect is certainly amazing... But, what's this feeling I have that I cannot really explain... Have I turned into some elderly, decrepit gamer?"

"They're totally not thinking of Japan...This is worse than the Xbox 360."

"That D-pad on the controller was good. I guess they won't put that out on the slim Xbox 360."

"I like the console's design. But I have no clue why it's so damn big."

"The reaction from foreigners isn't good. On Twitter, it's being trashed."

And yes, Microsoft is (for some reason) releasing the console in Japan.

You'll also be able to transfer movies, music and tv downloads from your Xbox360 to the Xbox One

Amazon is funny.

I know it's just a placeholder, but still...

To be fair,to be completely fair about the situation. They can avoid this whole mess during E3 with announcement of some good games(At least a Banjo-Kazooie game and I'm fine) and allowing second-hand games(Used games) and scrab all this online requirement bullshit.

If that happened in E3 I will forget this f.uck up during the Xbox One Reveal, but if it didn't happen and everyone starts to follow their suit and adapt those stupid policies of blocking used games and more online requirements,I'm gonna abondon console gaming ENTIRELY and go back to my good old retro-consoles without this stupid next-gen bullshit that starts to turn video-gaming into another Hollywood mess
