Hazimie 1,595 Posted May 29, 2013 Fiction or Non-fiction? Anything is fine,as long it was interesting...
Weiss 8,279 Posted May 29, 2013 Well if you want to go for fiction you could do it on one of your favorite books. That would make it easier. And if you want to go the non-fiction route choose a news topic that's struck you as something big recently. Something you think you'd be able to discuss. Story time! heh The story happens where a kid has weird digital cryptic numbers that always flash in his head when he sees previews for the new video game Chosen Change. The kid wants to get the game, but he doesn't have the system for it, but he daydreams of having it in class and at home. Until one day on his way home from school he notices a McDonald's kid's meal box junked near a sewer gate. Having interest as to what if a toy was left in it he finds the gaming system needed to play Chosen Change. The kid begins to hesitate and search his surroundings to see if anyone left it, but found no one. A storm begins to form over head and the kid shoves the system in his pocket putting his hood up he runs home. As the kid runs home the box digitally vaporizes. With the kid back at home on his bed he begins to grin and check out his newly found system. with a magazine open to a Chosen Change ad getting him more excited. Upon the inspection he opens the disk compartment and low and behold a copy of Chosen change is in there. The kid is dumb founded and looks around thinking to himself how could life have given him such a blessing, and after a big grin he begins to play the game. Aw struck by the story, graphics and game play he thinks how realistic it is, almost as if he could do anything. Reaching in to tap the screen the kid gets warped into the game. . . I could keep going. Is this what you're looking for? Edited May 29, 2013 by ReikuSSR

ReikuSSR 1,071 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) Cool story you got there though, keep the story rolling... Alright. ... So upon entering the game the kid begins to freak out and acts on instinct and pinches him self. With a yelp he finds the world to be Chosen Change with out a doubt. The kid rises from the ground and notices his clothes changed into a pair of multiple pocket cargoes and a shirt with a basic armor plated chest along with some elbow high finger less gloves to accent the leather item pouch around his young waist. The kid gets excited and begins to check out the world anew to him. The buildings were much like France just before their revolution, high to a child's eyes more bustling than the kid's quite town and an antique medieval charm that any gamer think JRPG. The kid stops his exploration to roar of his stomach then heads to the nearest bread stand and excavates his many pockets in search for payment, but alas with a sign he finds nothing. For a quick second he begins to think of the five dollar bill and some change from him pocket of his original pants. A depressing slope of back the kid begins to walk away from the stand. The foot falls of his walking halts the kid as he hears a rattle in one of his pockets. With haste the kid checks the source of the rattle. out from the pocket was the money the exact change down to the pennies. With confusion the kid made a tilt of head, but the repeated roar of stomach the kid lost interest and went to buy bread. The kid goes to buy the bread, but is turned down due to an unaccepted currency. The kid gets frustrated and remembers his favorite gaming store that only accepts cash and angered him more, but before he could storm off the clerk apologizes and accepted the money, and returned some bread for trade. Finally the kid was happy again and began to run off to a nice place to eat his food. shortly after the kid turned his back and made distance with the building, at the same time the kid's clothes from back home disappeared and the building became the video game story from the kid's home... Just let me finish my new signature and I will work more on it. heh. Edited May 29, 2013 by ReikuSSR

Dave 5,715 Posted May 29, 2013 My personal way of finding stories goes like this: First, find a character. Establish the context around that character. Then, physical quest. What are they actively trying to do? Emotional quest. Why are they trying to do it? Stakes. If they don't succeed, what are the worst things that can happen? Climax. What is the highest point of emotion that this story will come to? Humanity. What is the link that the audience and reader will click into? Structure. Once you have all the elements, how are you going to piece them together? It can be applied to fiction and non fiction. If you want to write your own, or if you are trying to find a story in a nonfiction setting.
