Jilly Shears 2,144 Posted May 28, 2013 You know what? Fine. I'm gonna start a storm here, but whatever: Just shut up with your anti-Christian crap. Honestly, I'm sick of it. I don't go around posting about how atheists are stupid for what they believe in, and then take someone who's a bad example of atheism, and paint all atheists into the same picture as that person. Like, what does this have to do with "real life news"? Oh gosh, someone is misusing Christianity and making it look bad? THAT HAPPENS EVERY FREAKING DAY. I don't know how you don't understand this by now, but: NOT ALL CHRISTIANS ARE LIKE THAT. You think we're all like that guy? Do you really think we all try to tell our kids to close their minds to every argument but ours? Do you really think Christianity is the only group that has people who do that? Grow up. Jim?Can I just say that I love you, so much?Anyway, that's all. I'd say more, but it looks like everyone's already come out with how they feel. 1 Jim reacted to this
Think Pink 1,967 Posted May 28, 2013 I completely support this guy. However, I am tired of people making Chirstians into the bad guys. This is not brainwashing! It is fact! This whole evolution stuff is malarchy to me. Christians have every right to believe in creationalism, however, they are NOT brainwashing, but speaking truth. If creationalism is brainwashing, you might as well say that all religion is brainwashing and IT IS NOT. I agree with Jim 100000000% and basically everyone else You're saying that you don't believe in evolution. That's fine if that's what you believe, BUT it doesn't justify what was said after that. Your entire argument is saying that this is okay because "they are not brainwashing, but speaking truth". You cannot assume that this is fact to everyone. Not everyone believes the same thing you do. Opinions aren't facts. Forcing a child to believe something and doing it in a manner that could be interpreted as brainwashing is highly inappropriate, even if you think it's "truth". Creationism a just as much of a theory as evolution and the big bang--it's a theory. It is not proven fact. Therefore the brainwashing of children into believing it isn't okay. If something is presented openly, like "Christians believe this is how the world began," then it's fine. They aren't forcing a gullible child to believe anything. They're just presenting one group of people's point of view. Then, it wouldn't be considered wrong at all. What you're saying--that it's "fact"--isn't okay. Telling a child "This is how the world began don't listen to evolution it is an absolute lie in fact don't even speak the word don't even learn what it means just be ignorant" is not okay. (I didn't watch the video because my internet connection is slow, but from comments, I assume that's what they were saying in it.) Religion can be brainwashing IF it is done as I am assuming it was done in the video--if they're forcing a view onto someone and not letting them consider alternatives. That is wrong, and no you can't say it's not just because you think it's the "truth". And I'm a Christian saying this, so it's not the unbelieving POV of an atheist. @threadcreator As Jim said, this is highly inappropriate and the way the thread title is phrased, you're obviously attacking Christians. It's perfectly fine if you're an atheist, but you do not have the right to attack an entire religion by generalizing. Not all Christians brainwash children. 99% don't because that's not what our religion is about. You can post the video and all and mention how a small group of Christians do bad things, but to stereotype the entire religion is not only immature, but means you're obviously quite uninformed about the religion and can't make a sound opinion anyway. 6 FireRubies1, Ruby, Jim and 3 others reacted to this

Col.Random 3,683 Posted May 29, 2013 I'm sick too. Why do some people find the need to bash all Christians just because a small amount do some stupid things? We don't all share the exact same mindset. Every group has good people and bad people. Some Atheists (Note: SOME, not all) try to force Christians to believe the things they do, too. It pisses me off having to deal with all this crap, like we're the bane of all existence on Earth. What's even more annoying is that they not only bash all christians, but even every single religion just because they THINK they understood one of several different beliefs -_- 3 Shulk, Weiss and HarLea Quinn reacted to this

Yes indeed you can't make someone believe something. I consider fact even though someone else may not. It is also not right to attack Christians just because they are expressing what they believe. Stereotyping is also not right and I agree with that 100%.
Amon 4,279 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) Only good will come of this thread. Put it this way, this is FAR from brainwashing. They are simply teaching their beliefs in a way that is child-friendly, and there is nothing wrong about explaining why you think your belief is more correct than another. Comparing and contrasting is crucial for helping others believe your point. This is no more different than a child friendly presentation on evolution. Personally, I think we need to stop interpreting the Bible so literally. For example, I've heard that the "6-days (+1 to rest)" explanation, like other things in the Bible are merely metaphors to make the Bible more understandable to the common man. Perhaps 6 days is really 6 billion years? 6 billion years would be pretty close to the actual age of the Solar system. However, the common man at the time the Bible was written would have no concept at all of numbers in the billions, it would be very confusing or just far fetched to him, they wouldn't be able to grasp it. Something like 6 days on the other hand would sound more feasible to the simple men of that age. Additionally, it's possible that the 6+1 thing was added to justify the creation of the modern calender at the hands of the Romans. Adding a biblical meaning to our 7 day week cycles would make it more appealing to people. I don't believe in Creationism though. Evolution and the more scientific theories on how we came to be just make more sense to me. However, I can see how Creationism would be more appealing to others, and that's okay. JJForever 75 Posted May 30, 2013 I'm a Christian. My best friend is an Atheist. I don't treat him differently because of it, just as he doesn't treat me differently. I find that judging someone on the religion they choose to believe in is ridiculous. How can one person on Earth judge another for believing in something (Religion Wise) that that person believes is true? Not to say you have to agree with that person's religion. Yet it doesn't mean you treat them with less respect as you'd treat someone who shares your own religion. I grew up in a Christian household. I was taught Christianity because of my family. I could have just as easy been taught to believe some terrorist religion. Even the religions in Iraq, or anything like that... They don't know any other way. They believe that for the same reason I believe in Christianity. Yeah, a lot of us think their religions are weird. Barbaric in some situations. They probably think my religion is weird too. It's just what we believe. Everyone has a right to believe in what THEY THINK IS RIGHT. That's all that matters.
legendkiller222 22 Posted June 13, 2013 There is something to why religions shield truth from people's eyes in order to keep alive some of their myths, however you cannot say people are stupid for believing a religion. As long as people believe in something and accept something when what they believe is found to be wrong that is fine. Look, there is no way people who believe in a certain God now are more right than any other religion. And not every scientific fact is truly 100% accurate. What we know will keep changing. Yes, we know certain truths in the bible to be false, but do not attack Christians as a whole because religion is much more than a theory of creation. The theory of creation may be wrong, but the principles of the religion are good. As long as people practice the principles and do not condemn others than I see no issue in any religion. The only issue ever comes from the infrastructure of religion, not the followers.

FireRubies1 1,325 Posted June 13, 2013 I don't get why this thread exists? I mean I don't fully like Christian beliefs and there are some who like to push their beliefs on people, but why would you start a thread about them? No one really said or did anything to cause this thread. I mean if they say something you disagree with and you wanna talk about it that's fine, but just post something complaining and trying to insult them for no reason? 2 luka and HarLea Quinn reacted to this

Let me just say that I hate religion and anything that has to do with it. It is brainwashing. You're forcing kids to think differently, instead of allowing them to think what they want to think, like that guy did. ''God'', or as I like to say it, ''a fairy that lives in the clouds'', does not exist just because a stupid book says so. We might as well say that Voldemort is real and everything else in Hogwarts. First off, it's people like you that start shitstorms because since YOU believe there is no God that no one else has the right . If parents have a belief and want to teach their kids they can and will do it .That's not necessarily brainwashing . I know a lot of people raised to believe one faith but as they got older made up their own minds about what they think..It's quite common . Yes there are a few 'cults' and radicals of many beliefs that try to force their beliefs and brainwash but that does NOT account for everyone who believes in whatever faith as a whole .Yes it's wrong . Even the bible teaches of 'free will'. As much as you say there is no proof that there is a God , there also certainly is no proof that He doesn't exist either .While you don't have to believe there is one you certainly have no right to disrespect those who do. 7 luka, Demyx., KingdomHearts3 and 4 others reacted to this
