rainbow_pocky 37 Posted May 27, 2013 Okay so I was having this conversation with my friends and we all came to the conclusion that there really isn't any because of how diverse American music is; however, I wanted to hear some more opinions so all Japanese/American music listeners post what you think here.. I am very curious.
Gamerazor247 877 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) American music is about love and dubstep and girls with BIG a$$es Japanese music is just very corny sometimes... But the beat and bass or whatever is always nice. Edited May 27, 2013 by gamerazor247
rainbow_pocky 37 Posted May 27, 2013 I totally agree.. but at the same time Japanese artists try to copy American music so that's why I say there is not really a difference.
tothecikpah 230 Posted May 27, 2013 I guess you'll see the different if you look at the jp official chart (oricon) most of the top songs are anime-like ... kawaii, boys/girls group.. (I don't know how to describe it..hehe)
Sora2 84 Posted May 27, 2013 Yoshi my turn right.............................. American music girls, beats and all that crap Japanese music is beats, lryics, corny and videos Kpop music is copying american music more with the beats and I find Kpop music tends to have more english words in it LOL I listen to a lot of Kpop and Jpop
Oishii 3,987 Posted May 27, 2013 American music is very stuck on romance. It's like 3 out of 4 songs are about being in love with someone, dealing with a break up, or just talking about how hot some guy/girl is. Japanese music has that, but there are also numerous songs about destiny, the future, and making something out of yourself I find is nearly absent in American music. Weiss 8,279 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) Different styles and of course different language. Edited May 27, 2013 by Weiss
Dave 5,715 Posted May 27, 2013 I believe the primary difference is that one comes from Japan, while the other comes from America.
dusk 910 Posted May 27, 2013 The strongest difference is really the singing language and accent. Rock in Japan is same as Rock in America. Pop in Japan is same as pop in America. Of course all bands have their own style (at least most of them) in Japan, but also in America. It is usually weeaboos who make Japanese music to be so much different than music from other countries. Ok classical is quite different from western. Classical music of Japan is based around pentatonic scale and has different instruments compared to classical music of Europe. But today classical music of Japanese composers isn't really all that different
Sora96 17,256 Posted May 27, 2013 Different languages/backgrounds/cultures. Different audience.
