I think Google on this list should be replaced by Valve, but that's just my opinion.

 

Here's my take; either Sony or Microsoft will determine what a game console is in the near future. If it's hardware and software that requires the internet in some manner to function, if it's devices that connect everything together so you can talk to them through a camera/microphone, then Microsoft will have had the biggest impact. They are taking steps to rewrite what the process of gaming is; in the Microsoft, and probably EA, world, gaming is a service. You don't own the hardware, software, or any other devices. You're merely renting them, and when they decide they're useless, they'll be useless and unplayable offline. Even if Sony adopts something along these lines, Microsoft will still have taken that first step towards restricting how you play.

 

I'd caution against rallying to Sony yet. They may be just allowing Microsoft to take the fall for policies that are soon going to be industry-wide. I certainly hope that isn't the case, but expect we'll find out at E3.
