Did the 'Disney' elements help draw you towards the franchise?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious how many others, like myself, may have partually been drawn into the Kingdom Hearts series with espesally the Disney elements in concideration.

Me, it seemed to naturally perk a curiousity in me, without much doubt of denial here. I've always found Square Enix (or, when i was a kid...square 'soft') games in genneral rather interesting as a whole, with the beautiful graphics and intence storylines and all, though, and, used to watch my brother play his final fantasy games on the playstation 2 nearly all the the time when we were younger. I also had quite the fixation on Chrono Cross, though, espesally. I was utterly HEART BROKEN that my brother ended up trading it in when we were younger....though, dispite that all, a keen interest defenetly stayed with me in the game as a whole all my life and I would random hum the music in the games. A lot. I even ripped off one of the characters to make my fake pokemon girl!

But, yeah, square enix always interested me a little. Though I never really played square enix games on my own as much till Kingdom Hearts came along. My brother got 1 and 2 for the ps2 (when we still had one) for christmas around 2009. Naturally, I was curious about the whole story of the game and was in constent await of him playing the games himself (since, i guess, i normally watch him play when it comes to the square games. espesally if he was the one who had us bought them. its his ps2, anyways. and i've always been more of a casual gamer, really. well setting aside maybe nintendo games, sometimes i get very hooked on those lol. i used to have it really bad with the pokemon franchice, espesally xD and lets not get started on super smash brother melee...).

However, about 2 years pass. And he showed, like. NO interest in playing the games. At all. I found it rather strange, he never like, even touched them.

Then I remembered one thing that I knew set the KH games apart from other square games; It had the Disney Characters. Which defenetly gave it a more, well, even more abserdly interesting 'twist' to it. I've always really liked disney stuff as a child, espesally the princesses (being a serious girly-girl and all. i remember me and my friends used to role play about cinderella all the time, too! roflmao). Also, naturally, I have a bit of a drawn-ish-ness to more 'child-like' type of things (hense why i probably get really obsessive compulsive over 'cutesy' things a lot). And Disney stuff, as far as I can tell, was always strictly accociated with childhood and the innocence of a child's genneral imagionation.

This, really, lead me to get curious to the point of no ends. This was Disney.....mixed with the even darker and more intrigingness of the Square Enix brand. Apperently, my brother still showed no interest in playing the games. Maybe the Disney characters is what turned him off?...possably (dispite that, though, he used to always watch disney channel around 2010. be it the celebrities or the cartoons. but maybe the concept of it mixing with final fantasy characters was behound his understanding...).

Naturally, I knew I had to figure out what was going on in these games. I guess, though, at the time, I was a little shy to ask my brother if I could just PLAY THE GAME MYSELF. Likely cuz he didn't play it first (thats likely the case. so he woulda likely said no?.....while still being reasonably uninterested in playing himself. go figure~). So, one day, around early 2011 or so, when he was out, at like, the gameroom or something, I popped in the game disc for "Kingdom Hearts" (the first one). I needed to know what this game was all about, this wasn't just another square game....it also had disney in it. Put two and two together, I couldn't just run away from such an erge.

First few seconds of the game; Stanned glass princesses....talk about choosing your destiny path......seriously, heavy stuff.

Then fighting the heartless.

Sooner or later, I was hooked as heck. And, yes, for most of my teen years, I guess i wasn't as into disney too much (i duno why but meh)(well, okay, peter pan mighta been a slight exception a bit during my curiousity about 'peter pan syndrome' for awile in around 2008 or so. but yeah). But Kingdom Hearts totally made me like.....curious about anything disney.

And all the talk about the heart and stuff (which both confused and intreged me).

And how I wanted a keyblade of my own.

Yeah, defenetly an expirience I don't intend on forgetting, in all honisty. I really felt I connected to this game right away the moment I picked up the controller.....

Of course, then I got back into pokemon for awile and kinda forgot about kingdom hearts and becoming a keyblade master and stuff. Bummer.

And then our ps2 broke down in early 2012. Waah....

But, then, late 2012, it all came back to me, somehow (just cuz i was....singing little mermaid tunes on a dog walk. go figure. I became a little badass over the years, didn't I....).

Then I remembered; Kingdom Hearts was awesome, I miss that game. Our PS2 broke down, tho....But I really wanna play "when you walk away" again lol (yes, i really was calling it that for awile, afterwards, hahahaha. i was funny... xD; ).

So, yeah, ended up 'downloading' chain of memories and played it for awile, lol.

But my interest didn't really perk as much as it did till i looked at my bro's ps1 game case again......and noticed the boy that sort of added a whole new demension to this all (you know who i mean).

Dispite all my fangirling over him (riku, lol), in a way, i started understanding the franchice more and more over time. Like how riku falls into the darkness and surpasses it. And i started looking up xehanort and learning how the heartless were born better and stuff too.

And I got days for christmas last year (and won it). The story defenetly was an interesting one.

The whole franchice fasanates me really.

And Mickey Mouse and his pals may of just played a pretty big role in that! And, I guess, if you knew how my mind worked a bit more personally better you'd even understand even more how i....am so drawn to these games through even that alone.

But really every aspect is amazing. I don't think theres any other game quite like these ones....(even the music. is just one of a kind...)

Not to mension one of the nicest fandoms ever. :) You know who you are.

Weee, such a long and epic post. And to think i've only been a kh fan for like, 2 years so far! In some ways, it feels like it was so much longer.....maybe i'm secretly a keyblade chosen one? lol, that'd be awesome. Maybe my dream to be a keyblade master, in some way, is a reality! I wonder if i'm also the one to understand the series best as a whole.....haaahaaaaa, now i'm annalizing things maybe a bit tooooo much.

Yes, I didn't really game before picking up KH2 (and getting KH1 a year later) and it was the Disney elements that made me want to try it out, I stopped bothering with games when my father left cause he always did the difficult parts when I was a child since I was afraid of my character dying.  The disney elements interested me enough that I thought screw it, go for it, and really enjoyed it and started getting loads of other games

When I got my PS2 I didn't really have much games to play so I went to see my friend who then was playing KH. He said that he could lend me the game so I took it and didn't really examine the case of the game and I just started playing. I didn't even really know it was a game with a lot of disney stuff until I played it for a while :D. So no, disney didn't affect me

Yes. I love Disney since ever o: My first word was "Micky" because I used to watch Disney Cartoons everyday but later I liked Donald better. The first Time I saw something about Kingdom Hearts was when I was 7/8 years old, My family and I visited my aunt and everytime I was there I played with his Gameboy, because my cousin was a gamer ... He was 16/17 I think and he had a big Poster from Kingdom Hearts in his room. It looked amazing, so mysterious and I wanted to know that it is so badly, because I knew there were Donald and Goofy on it. When I was that young I never played PS2 because I was very very shy and didn't have confidence at all o.o Dunno why it prevented me from playing PS2, but it just did. Well, few years later I decided to buy a PS2 and about one year later KH2 came out. My father bought me a weekly Gaming Magazine and it was featured in it. I saw that it was the prequel to the Game I saw on that poster and in addition to that there were some Worlds listed. Mulan, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hercules ... My favorite Disney Movies were in it together with my favorite Disney Cartoon characters. There was no other option than to buy it ^_^

My friend told me about Kingdom Hearts when I was in seventh grade but I hadn't heard about that game then. The commercial for the games wasn't really on the channels I watched, so I never saw it. Then I play KH1 at my friends house and afterwards I asked my mom to get it for me. I don't really remember why but for some reason the shop wher my mom bought the game, didn't have KH1 at that time only KH2, which just came out a few months before.

After that I became more and more of a kind of gamer person.

Initially, it was the opposite.  The Disney/Final Fantasy merge had turned me off, since I figured those two should be kept on opposite sides of a fence.  I'm a Final Fantasy fan, but not enough of a Disney fan outside a select few movies and shows to give it a try.  Then I gave it a try, anyway, from curiosity and me wanting to see Cloud.  While I'm still not a Disney buff, KH has actually given me a respect for Mickey, Donald, and Goofy.  In fact, it's only KH and a tiny handful of places (like Goof Troop or Epic Mickey) that I can stand the three.  I wholeheartedly embrace the Disney side to things, and even defend it when people dismiss it as stupid and just want to see the original characters and the Final Fantasy--though I love the original characters, too, and they're the main draw for me.  That, and KH's concepts excluding time travel.

I remember one of my old childhood friends telling me about KH in 4th grade, when the first game came out. 6th grade comes along, and I see KH at walmart selling for 20 bucks. Remembering what my friend said, I got it, and here I am.
