EA and Disney to team up on Star Wars games

Posted

Today, The Walt Disney Company has announced that they have chosen EA to create new Star Wars experiences for gamers worldwide.

The magic of Star Wars is interwoven into the worlds, characters, planets and amazing battles. It is a universe that lends itself perfectly to gaming.  Our agreement unlocks a whole new future of Star Wars games that will span consoles, PCs, tablets, mobile and more.

While we don’t have any details to share today on specific titles, our development teams are already brimming with design ideas.  The EA Studios that will develop these games are some of the most innovative and popular creative teams in the world, and include DICE and Visceral, in addition to the BioWare team, which is already developing for the Star Wars franchise.  These imaginative teams will make games that may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories.  Powering it all will be the Frostbite 3 development engine – guaranteeing incredible graphic fidelity, environments and characters.

Star wars may yet live in gaming.

EA = evil assholes, they already said that all games will have micro transactions built in on day one, this can only mean bad things....

What I want: Battlefront 3.

What we'll get: A kids game that stops you every 30 seconds to tell you your internet is down, so you can't play your single-player game. Either that, or it'll ask you if you want useless DLC.

So the Star Wars franchise has been pawned by Disney to EA, who will delegate game development to their own developers. One giant passing another giant a task for their thralls to accomplish so that the giants' may gain.

On a less sour and dramatic note, GIVE ME BATTLEFRONT IIIDO IT. MAKE THE DAMN GAME, HAVE IT COINCIDE WITH NEW LOCATIONS FROM THE NEW FILM. BOOM, SYNERGY, I JUST DID YOUR JOBS FOR YOU!

EA was voted Worst Gaming Company more than once, why would Disney do this? Oh wait, they don't care, they want the munny...

EA Sports make the best sport video games in the world. I'm sure EA will do a great job. Or at least a better job than what the teams that developed the Star Wars games since Battlefront II did.

God damnit, exactly when I thought it couldn't get any worse...

Didn't know there are any other Developers that make Sport Video Games.

Update:

The games are confirmed to come on all major platforms. From the big three in the console market to PC to mobile. There is currently doubt on the Wii U version due to the Frostbite engine but we'll see how that works out.

EA's games are mediocre at best. Hopefully, Disney will lead this game in the right direction.

This combination might actually make for some good Star Wars games. I'm interested to see how they will turn out in the future.

BF3 comes out, can't play online for 8 weeks cuz of EA's servers

Beacause Disney's got great track record with games.

I never got interested in any Star Wars games except for the racing game on N64,so in my perspective there's nothing wrong with EA having total control over Star Wars games, maybe they'll make a game that will finally catch my attention,so I look forward to see the next Star Wars game(even though I probable wron't buy it anyway).

Making a sports game (which all you need to do is update the players and graphics from the last version) isn't really comparable to making a game about an epic sci-fi saga that fans take very seriously.

If EA screws up, which they don't care if they do as long as they have your money, then there will be a great disturbance in the force. As if millions of angry nerds all cried out at once, and were suddenly silenced.

well, the only games I liked from EA is Skate series and NFS. But nothing else really. I know most of the game sucked terribly. I just hope Disney watches very carefully with EA when it comes to star wars.

And people said I was overreacting when I said that Disney buying Star Wars would be horrible...

Yep, that wasn't my opinion at all...
