  1. 1. Do you think the Wii U is truly a next-generation console on par with the PlayStation 4 and next Xbox?

    • Absolutely, it's more of a next-gen console than the others.

    • Yes, there's nothing the PS4/720 can do that it can't.

    • Maybe the specs aren't quite as good, but they don't need to be to succeed.

    • Not really, but it'll still be competitive for years to come.

    • Not at all, it's a failure stuck with yesterday's technology.

these are the wii u specs, its hard to say honestly if its this gen or next. its about smack in the middle of the ps3 and the ps4(maybe closer to the ps3)

but I think right now it only runs at about what a ps3 can do, it will need a lot of firmware updates to make it use everything that it has built into it.

Technically speaking, it's next gen. It's more powerful hardware than the Wii, has new features and games, and has Nintendo's full attention. Unfortunately if that's true then they've managed to launch a next gen console that already feels like it's last gen.

The hardware is about to be outstripped in every capacity, the second screen is the console implementation of an idea that existed with the DS and Sony's remote play, but what speaks the most to me is the games. The system has them, yes, but they offer me only comparable experiences I can already get on the Wii, the PS3, or the DS; things I already own. It lacks that killer app and definition in the current market, feeling more like an answer to Nintendo's current gen rivals than their upcoming platforms.

I wouldn't mind owning a Wii U, but it still feels like a halfway upgrade to my Wii than a full-fledged next gen system.

I remember reading somewhere that Nintendo plans on releasing another console to be on par with PS4/720?

I've never heard this, but it would be interesting if they did. It all depends on how well the PS4/Durango are received in comparison to the Wii U; Nintendo proved with the Wii that they still are able to control the market through innovation rather than sheer power.

Hmm. Being the best of outdated technology isn't precisely something to crow over. Here's the PS4 specs for comparison:

RAM, which many developers have said is what is holding them back this generation, is quadruple that of the Wii U's. Because RAM determines so much in terms of the in-game experience, the more they have to work with the better.

Well the wii was behind in tech but caught up to the competition so wii u may be enough to hold ground against Sony and Microsoft

The PlayStation 4 is ahead of the Wii U clearly. The PlayStation 4 has been compared to a 2014 gaming PC.

The Playstation 4 is not equal to a 2014 gaming PCs, it's more or less comparable to a current mid range PC (except for the ram which was better than I was expecting on the PS4).  To put things in perspective I have a gaming PC that I bought in 2011 that has a better GPU, CPU, and roughly the same amount of ram.

On topic: Wii U is a stronger and more efficient 360/PS3 so comparing it to the new Xbox and PS4 is a bad idea.  It's not on par in specs with PS4 (which we know is about 2x better in some respects than Wii U) and the new Xbox, but it could provide some strong games nonetheless

Eh.

The Wii was so popular because it appealed to casual gamers like your Nanny and little brother.

The Wii U provided upgrades that made it more acceptable among (not casual?) gamers, but it's still trying to cater to casual gamers so it's not up to the same level as the other 2.  In a way, they improved it to attract more gamers, yet have deterred their casual audience, and aren't as good as the PS4 or Xbox will be.

Obviously not,but that's not important.Console's power doesn't make good game and people seem to forget that.Final fantasy VI is FAR superior than Final Fantasy XIII and VI was on SUPER NINTENDO!!

Yes, the Wii U is truly a next gen and as the cycle goes, it will be behind PS4 and 720 like its predecessor.

It's definitely more innovative than the other two, and by far more interesting (Of course, the others don't interest me in the slightest). Also, it's definitely next-gen, generation doesn't mean specs.

Of course. The Wii U, PS4, and Nextbox are part of the same gen just like the Wii, PS3, and 360 are and the GameCube, PS2, and Xbox were. This is factual, it simply cannot be disputed.

Sure the new Xbox and new PlayStation have better tech. But, the Wii U has already proven to me that it can hold its own against the two simply by the games that are coming out. The gameplay is great for the thing and it's a blast. I really don't care for the new tech now that I have this thing.
