I'm watching a let's play on it instead of just cutscenes since I don't have the system or game. Why does Riku and Sora seem younger in this game than what they should be?

 

I'm kinda happy Ansem's back, I used to like him a lot! He came back and I was like 

 

"Why are you still Alive!? I went through all that trouble to get rid of you and now you're alive! What is wrong with this picture?! AAAH!"   :huh:  <_<  :blink:

They appear younger because they have been stripped of their powers that they gained from KH1 to KH2 as the test is meant to test their own strength, not ones granted by special clothes or keychains.  In reality, they were going to go back to their KH1 attire but some fans thought it was a remake.  Also, it's an excuse to reset them to level 0.

Kind of what I was thinking. Since it was a 'dream' realm, they would appear younger due to their lack of powers.

This.  Yen Sid sent them back in time to the point before Destiny Islands was swallowed by darkness (Not quite sure about the circumstances of this, but it appears to be the case.)  This allowed them to gain access to the sleeping worlds as that is where worlds that have been swallowed by darkness go.

 

With my luck, this probably isn't at all accurate, and I haven't the slightest clue about what I'm talking about, lol

No you are correct . He sent them back in time to the point where DI was swallowed in darkness and there they entered the sleeping worlds .Yen Sid also gave them their clothes too although Norty did add his own Recusant Sigil to Sora's later xDDD
