I still like XIII-2 but I seriously began to HATE XIII

Recommended Posts

To be perfectly honest,I liked XIII-2 a lot except of the Lightning DLC which is required in order to know more about the story(Just watch it on youtube, don't buy the DLC)

As for XIII however,I used to like the game....but after a while I got really really sick of it.....No I'm not complaining about the story,I still like the story and I still like the battle system and bosses. The biggest offender however that made me hate XIII after I went back to play RPGs like Pokemon,Xenoblade Chronicles and FF4 and FF9........was without a doubt...The Hallway

Oh...my ....God the HALLWAY.

Before I go into this,Imagine playing a Pokemon game were you're stick to narrow paths with not many ways to go with very limited number of Pokemon and you can't go back to previous locations and you got locked in the two last areas of the game.......That is what I felt with XIII

And what's worse, the game is making all the choices for you, your party, your leader, your next destination, any sense of choice is non-existent until chapter 11....theeeeen you go back to the hallways again for chapter 12 and chapter 13

I currently playing Pokemon Black & White and I'm really really really enjoying them especially when Unova got expanded in Black and White 2....and while I'm playing Pokemon I realized the reason why I never came back to FFXIII

I have no complains with the story except for the Wikipedia style of telling which can get really annoying sometimes, the battle system I still like it.But it was the hallway that killed this entire experience.

And in case you want to jump on the hate banwagon I think you'll like this ongoing review of the game from Spoony(even if you hate spoony you might agree with his points on the gameplay,I find the review very entertaining and hiliarious even though I don't agree with some points)

(Don't ask me why the first two parts were with Russian sub,I couldn't find the first original two parts on his channel yet)

There is still part 4 coming and I might post it here if some people found it entertaining

A hallway is a hallway...

That was pretty much the biggest problem with the game.

At least XIII-2 got a lot of side-quests,more wide opened locations to explore, and tons of mini-games and secrets, and a story that is easy to get to without reading a freakin wikipedia like in XIII....in XIII-2 I barely opened the datalog except to locate certain sidequests and I understood the story without spending hours on that Wikipedia of XIII....don't get me wrong I like reading but when it becomes required to read instead of something you spend some free time on to understand the mythos......this is one of my complaints of the first XIII's story...you need to spend almost 20 minutes in that encyclopedia in order to understand the story.

While I began to hate XIII,I still hate FF8 and X-2 as much if not more than XIII.......I think I hate 8 more

because FF8 was the point where the series started to slowly collapse...especially with the stupid junctiondrawing magic system and the terrible story

I really had to force myself to play XIII, I didn't even finish it it was so bad, I just stopped at chapter 12 figuring that if I hadn't gotten my monies worth by then than I never would

to be honest it wouldn't have been that bad a game if the story wasn't terrible, I did enjoy the part with the missions.

This was my issue when I played the game as well. I wasn't crazy about the game-play, but it was acceptable. The characters were meh, but the overall storyline seemed interesting. The linearity ruined it for me. Normally I don't care if a game is linear, but when you're walking in a straight line for the entire game, something is wrong.

The hallways was not my only problem with this game,Crisis Core was linear but it was a great game, the problem with XIII is the characters, the story and the battle system.

I've played sooo many linear games in my life and MGS is a big example, but even there,MGS gave you different ways to pass the line of enemies and branching ways that you can use to reach the next destination,Crisis Core was linear yeah but it was a handheld and it gave you some freedom in the location you go to.

But in XIII,every single decision you make from Ch1 to ch11 is decided already, you can't change the leader, you can't change party members, most paradigm options are locked until you progress, and the f.ucking hallways never really branches, just one straight line from start to finish with only little branches that leads to a chest to give you the illusion that you've escaped the hallway.

I liked the story and the battle system ,but the hallway was the reason I couldn't finish a second playthrough

my only issue with the story though,it's the fact that you have to read that Wikipedia they gave you for at least 20 minutes in order to understand what's going on.

Final Fantasy XIII is certainly a little monotonous in terms of going to a new land, fighting thoughtlessly, and proceeding.  That is one quality I didn't appreciate about the game, though I felt the graphics, characters, and story made up for this flaw.  XIII-2 isn't *bad*, though I don't like the story anywhere near as much.  They changed it drastically.  But still, I do see what you mean about XIII's gameplay and can partly agree.  It still was a good game despite this, however; I just wish the game left a little more for the imagination of the player.  Take Final Fantasy X, for instance.  It was still linear-based, if you think about it, but the way it was setup didn't feel anywhere near as drilling or irritating.  Perhaps that's only my own personal take on it, though.

FFX was linear yeah but at least you can revisit some locations and play some side-quests

my biggest gribe with X is two things.

1TIDUS

I .....F.UCKING....HATE... TIDUS

By far the most annoying protagonist in FF's history

2Costume design

Seriously some people (Especially Seymour) dress like clowns for dumb plot excuses....even Kefka looks more appropriate than any of the costumes in X and X-2

That is one of my major issues with XIII. It was too Linear, and you had to play through 10 chapters before doing Side Quests and stuff like an Actual RPG. Thats why i favor XIII-2 more.

XIII-2 was much much MUCH better.

I still love XIII-2 and it's one of my favorite FF games.....but it's just XIII's hallway that pissed me off after I went to more opened RPGs like Pokemon and Xenoblade

I liked Tidus until he started doing that " This is MY story " thing near the end. It was so self- centred and Yuna went through just as much as you did Tidus, if not more ! I feel like Tidus was great until he started to get really selfish near the end. I didn't mind his " annoying " stage at the beginning. I would blame Auron for putting the " My story " thing in his mind, but he doesn't start doing it till Inside Sin.

"I'm from Zanarkand"

"Do you know that I'm from Zanarkand"

"you should know that I'm the star player of Zanarkand"

"You should be from Zanarkand"

LMAO XDDDDD

Thats actually pretty funny. But i can see how annoying that would get. Another thing about Tidus is just his voice in general. He sounds annoying NORMALLY. Im not talking about during his "Laugh Scene" with Yuna, i mean all the time. His Japanese voice actor is so much better.

What's funny is that Rikku before Besaid tells him NOT to tell everybody that he's from Zanarkand because it might cause trouble. And what does he do ? Tells everybody where he's from.
