Text KH writing help wanted (preferably skilled writers/critics)

Recommended Posts

So, I'm creating my own vision of what Kingdom Hearts 3 might be like using all of the current information from every game so far. So far, I've only written about Sora and the others visiting a Toy Story world, but after looking through it again, I can't tell if I really made use of Sora interacting with the original cast, or if I just rewritten the entire movie with Kingdom Hearts thrown in it. I think it make be a little bit of both, but I tend to overlook things others might catch easily.

What I'm asking is advice as to how I might go about putting in Sora, Donald and Goofy into a Disney world, but without it seeming forced. Any kind of examples or advice would be greatly appreciated. I consider myself decent at writing, but I know I'm not perfect, so building up my knowledge will help me improve.

I would think back to how each Disney world's story was presented in the Kingdom Hearts games, and compare yours to see if it's similar in content.  From what I recall of all the Disney worlds, most would be presenting their own themes to their movies, but would follow the Kingdom Hearts plot in most aspects.  For example, think about how The Enchanted Dominion (from Birth by Sleep) coincides with the game's plot and Sleeping Beauty.  They took some main elements of Sleeping Beauty--the fairies working magic to stop Maleficent, Maleficent being the main antagonist, Aurora being put to sleep by the enchantment, and Prince Phillip still wanting to save her--yet gave a Kingdom Hearts twist to it, so that all of its events played some role (whether it be significant or minor) to the Kingdom Hearts plot.

Let's say for Toy Story, I'd have Sora meet Andy, who's trying to find his toy, Buzz (who'd fallen out the window, similarly to the movie).  Then I'd add some Heartless battles, perhaps have Sora meet some of the toys, who then introduce him to the evil Cid who likes to blow other toys up.  Instead of put in the whole story of Pizza Planet, I might change an event to Sora traveling the neighborhood, being sent on a wild goose chase to find Scud, to attain access to Cid's house.  That is when I'd have Sora meet Woody and Buzz, as they have been brought prisoner to Cid's home.

Of course, you wouldn't want to write it exactly as I laid it out (because you've got to wonder why Sora's speaking to both toys and humans!), but I just wanted to give you an example of what I'd meant.  So, in other words, keep the main elements of Toy Story, but try not to follow its plot verbatim; give it its own twist that would have some connection to your main plot to give it fuller meaning.

Anyhow, hope that helps some!  Best of luck on your story. :)

My biggest sugestion is to not constrain yourself to the events in the movie. Treat the movie as a guideline and try to see how you can fit it into the story. THat's one of the things the original Kingdom Hearts did very well. The worlds still felt true to the source material but didn't always follow the films to a T. Conversely, I always had a problem with the way KH2 handled the Disney worlds because they didn't really feel plot relevant until the second half of the game. Some exceptions include Beast's Castle and Space Paranoids. What made those worlds successful was the connection to the storyline. Also, consider how Sora, Donald, and Goofy might affect the film itself. What actions would they take when meeting the cast? You don't have to change everything; just try to make it feel natural. I would say you should probably try to find things for SDG to do, but that really depends on how you adapt the movie. How will the villains of your story interact with this world, if at all? Or if you're using enemies like Heartless, think about how they might spice things up for the toys or even Andy's family and Sid.If you need any more specific examples, I can try to give a few of my own experiences in world adaptations. :) I've done a few for my fics, so I'd be happy to help in whatever way I can.
