SoKai or SoRiku

I'm not sure if I should start shipping in this fandom. I was thinking either SoRiku or SoKai, but I've been having trouble picking one. When I poked around the Internet, I saw lots of people bashing characters/silly evidence (i.e.- they looked at each other for 0.2 seconds!!1!)/etc. And no, I'm not a n00b. I've been in the fandom awhile and I know people bash the characters and whatnot.

 

Which pairing would be better, SoRiku or SoKai? Can anyone try to sell me one of the two pairings without character bashing and nonsense? Help!

Meh. Personally i've never been a fan of straight pairings and Kairi. So SoRiku is my recommendation.

People who ship Soriku piss me off so much. They are friends. SoKai is pretty much OTP, if you actually pay attention to things. The entirety of the first game supports that, basically. The fact that Sora was so into Namine in COM when she replaced Kairi with herself. "I'll come back to you... I promise!" "I know you will!". "This is real...". Their goodbye in Blank Points, before Sora and Riku went off into the wild blue yonder.

 

The two big things people say in support for SoRiku are: Their reunion in KH2, and the hug in DDD.

 

The reunion in KH2? First off: Sora thought Kairi was safe. He thought she was the island, safe, for 3/4's of KH2. But, Riku was never safe. All throughout KH1, the only time Sora had to talk to his friend was when the door between them shut. Then he searched for him all through COM. And then, searched for him for all of KH2. He never had peace of mind regarding Riku's, his best friend, safety. And then he finally gets him safe, and now both of his friends are there. His motivation is to save his friends, and this is the friend he hadn't been able to save until now. Part of his motivation for one game, and his full motivation for two, to get his best friend back, has come to fruition.

 

That is not gay. That is a heartfelt friendship. Sora is the kind of person who would cry in that moment, when everyone is there... Mickey is there, Kairi is there, Donald and Goofy are there, and now Riku is finally safe. They're all together, and Sora gets overwhelmed by the power of that. No, he didn't have as big a moment with Kairi... not outright. No, his hug with Kairi was also immensely powerful. A few moments of contemplative silence... embracing one another...

 

And not to mention, if Sora is in such love with Riku... then why is Sora crushing over Kairi for all of KH2? In Halloween Town... he imagines him and her dancing... in Pride Lands, Donald picks on him about how cute Kairi would find him as a Lion. Pretty sure there's another such event that I'm forgetting...

 

The hug in DDD:

So, they just went through an entire journey seperately, wherein Riku saved his god damned life... and then they reunite again, and share a quick bro hug to celebrate a victory. Again, friendship.

Ship both? Or neither? I think avoiding shipping in this fandom is best tbh. On top of there being no canon pairings and the franchise being friendship oriented this is one of those fandoms that gets particularly butt-hurt about ships.

Neither.  Kairi is an underdeveloped character, and I'm the rare sort who believes significant emotional fulfillment and love don't come exclusively from romantic contexts.  I think Sora and Riku look cute together but "cute together" isn't the same as "sleeping together," no matter what shippers think.  Plus, supporting SoRiku as a romantic pair means allying myself with yaoi fans who actually care about who's on top, and that should not be.

Personally i'd say none. though because of the effect on the story i'd have to say Sora & Kairi.

Pretty much my every argument every time I see an ignorant firetruckwad thinking Soriku endgame. I know this is a little late but at least I know there’s people in this firetrucked up fandom that has factual evidence and can differentiate romance and friendship and not see everything as a homo moment every cutscene. ReMind already debunked Soriku and it teased Rikunami as well which I’m fine with since it’s pretty mich Riku’s way of carrying his other self’s will to protect and take care of Naminé and y’all can’t dissuade me. Y’all can still ship whoever for all I care but you can’t deny the facts.
