I think it shines with its story, the battle mechanics it brought, and the updated graphics that gave the series a fresh and rejuvenated feel. I'm the sort who prefers the later generations of Pokemon because, when you get down to it, they're all the same game down to their core, except more and more refined. HG/SS especially takes what people like with gen II and gives it IV's technical refinement. Platinum doesn't rely so heavily on type advantage compared the other generations do so there's a bit more strategy involved. Honestly, after playing gen I, then III, then IV, I can't go back to the early games no matter how much I love the original 151. I love the Pokémon a lot also, but I can't say it's my favourite because of the Pokémon since there are many other Pokémon in other generations I love too. Captain Arrowguns 466 Posted April 5, 2013 I'v played the games from evory generation at some point or another (although only if Soul Silver counts as a gen. II game), and I think that Gen 5 is the best. It introduced pokemon that actually move around in battle, a camera that changes positions, rotation battles, TM's that don't go away after their first use, the best storyline I've ever seen in a major Pokemon game, some great new characters such as N and Cherin, much better WIFI support, and some great new pokemon like Golurk and Beartic. As for Pokemon design, before I played the game, i thought most of them were just ridiculous looking, but after playing most of the game, I've kinda grown a liking for them. They're actually not that bad of a design. Some of them are still really weird--like that Gingerbread thing with the white hair? wtf?
