Now, from what we know, the PS4 will be able to connect with the iPad and the PS Vita. WHAT IF:

The iPad and/or Vita could be used as separate screens in a splitscreen battle? Since, when PS4 streams to a Vita, the console does all the processing, but you just see and control the result in your hand. What if it could do that with three or four different screens for a splitscreen battle?

To clarify what I'm saying, picture this. Three guys are hanging out at one of their houses, and want to play a splitscreen multiplayer game on their PS4. But they'd rather not have the screen cluttered up with three players worth of stuff. So, Player 1 decides to set up the game so that P1 is seeing his gameplay on the TV, with Player 2 using a DualShock 4 and watching a propped up iPad on which his screen is shown, and Player 3's screen and controller is the PSVita. So instead of having three screens crammed into the TV, each player gets his own screen.

I'm not by any means saying that I think Sony would be able to let you do that. But wouldn't it be awesome?

I'm looking forward to seeing how the new OS actually works. I'm glad that the differences between the X1 and PS4 are so minimal, it just makes things easier for developers in the long run.

I do think Sony needs to be careful. Microsoft has been coming up fast ever since they abandoned pretty much all of their original policies and plans for the Xbox One. Sony can't depend on Microsoft screwing up again if they want to hold the lead they've had, they need to release some good news on the PS4 independent of their competitor.

I'd like that free multiplayer back.

Here’s a whole slew of information on the PlayStation 4, courtesy of Sony, relating to Friends Lists, PlayStation Plus subscriptions and the use of the PS Vita as a PS4 controller.

Let’s start with the Friends List. According to the latest episode of PS Access, you will now be able to add up to 2,000 friends on PS4, which is double that of the Xbox One.

Meanwhile, while you’ll need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play multiplayer games on PlayStation 4, you’ll still be able to access features like party chat, entertainment apps and free-to-play games.

Now to the controller stuff. Unsurprisingly your DualShock 3 controller won’t be compatible with a PlayStation 4, but your Move controller will.

Beyond that, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has also confirmed that the PS Vita can only be used as a PS4 controller with specific games. Responding to the question, “HEY BRO!... Could you tell us if the PS Vita ‘The Ultimate companion’ Can be used as a second controller on the PS4?,” Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida said, “Hey BRO! In a normal sense, no. Unless a game is specifically programmed to allow such use of PS Vita.”

All of which is useful information, but it’s mostly notable because Yoshida said, “Hey BRO!” When I interview him that’s totally gona be my opening line.

Sony may be readying a hardware bundle that includes a PlayStation Vita handheld with its upcoming PS4, according to a report by Machinima (viaVideoGamer.com).

According to "a well-placed, anonymous source," the package will reportedly go on sale before the end of 2013, and will retail for around $500. No additional details were made available. With the Vita currently retailing for $250 as a standalone device, and the standard edition of the PlayStation 4 priced at $399, a $500 pack would represent a significant saving for consumers.

Sony previously announced that all PlayStation 4 games will be playable on the company's handheld via Remote Play, though only games that have been "specifically programmed to allow such use of PS Vita" will be able to use the handheld as a controller for the home console.

This would be a smart move if it is true.
