Chronic Tumor 149 Posted March 18, 2013 You probably thought this was a trolling thread. You were wrong. Probably. So I get it that I am not popular here and that I haven't been around for a few months. Whatever. Love you too. I discovered a fanfiction that was recently concluded and came across people putting people together to do a reading of the entire thing (17 chapters) and so I sent them an audition mostly for fun because honestly I didn't think I would get chosen. I finally got an email back two days ago and the parts I was hoping to get had names next to them that weren't mine. Oh well, I didn't really have any hopes anyway. But then MY NAME was next to NARRATOR and I'm freaking out a bit. So since you guys like stuff and things I come to you to ask if you have any help/suggestions/resources/advice for someone who has never done any voice acting before. CRICKET I KNOW YOU ARE A PRO SO I WILL BEG YOU IF I HAVE TO
Javelin434 3,164 Posted March 18, 2013 Just... Be yourself. Your natural voice got you the part, it makes sense to just speak naturally when reading your lines. You lucky son of a shepherd, have fun!!!
Number XV 490 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) Depends on the part. Since you have narrator, your main goal is to be unbiased in your acting (since I'm assuming you are an out-of-universe narrator) and to be clear in your speech. Make sure the audience understands what you're trying to convey to them about the specifics of the story. Edited March 18, 2013 by Number XV
Chronic Tumor 149 Posted March 18, 2013 It's a 2nd person narration "You'd nodded off, trusty laptop slid off the sofa..." " Sometimes you wonder what it'd be like if you'd gone to college....." Those would be lines I would read
Nero 4 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) Here's a video that helped me out with your same issue. Just relax, take a breather, and record the lines. See if there's someone that would be willing to hear the quality of the recording before you share it with the rest of the cast. Hope this helps. EDIT: I should also point out that there is moderate profanity in the video. Just saying. Edited March 18, 2013 by Nero

Geralt 4,874 Posted March 18, 2013 Do like a Morgan Freeman type thing, haha sorry you know I had to mention that. But just read as you read in your audition.
kalnet 1,198 Posted March 19, 2013 When I do narrating back in high school, I kinda speak off like I'm talking to my mind but I'm using my mouth/voice out instead. It's like talking to a 3rd party. Not sure if that sounds right. =/ You can always show us a sample of your voice so it'll be much easier for us to help you if you want.

Javelin434 3,164 Posted March 20, 2013 (edited) Do they expect background music with your voice? I can help Edited March 20, 2013 by Javelin434
kalnet 1,198 Posted March 20, 2013 God damn your voice sounds awesome. Anyway, It sounds like you're nervous? It doesn't matter if you made some mistakes, it happens. Try to be confident a little bit more and you don't need to soften your voice when you're doing your recordings. If your whole family are around, I guess you don't have any choice if you want it to be done with it early. =/
