Tails 6,692 Posted February 17, 2013 Sony always seems to make an idea based off of Nintendo or Microsoft's ideas for their products. Like the Wii remote for example. Sony made a copy off of it and called it the Playstation Move. Which was basically a Wii remote with a little ball on the top of it. And let's admit it, the move didn't add anything new or fun gameplay-wise to the PS3. The only game that pretty much required the Move was Playstation Heroes and we all know how terrible that game was. The Move was pretty much a fail add-on to the PS3 that didn't add anything good or new. And what's worse, Sony didn't even bother to give it more support than it should have. Which is typical of Sony. Then there's the Vita. They added touch screen controls to make games more "cool" on Vita but from what I've seen from comments. Not much people seen to like the motion controls and would much prefer the traditional buttons. Sony tried to make a Nintendo DS out of the Vita but proved to be really inferior to the DS/3DS. Then there's the Super Smash bros clones :Playstation All-Stars battle Royale. Please don't tell me that isn't a rip-off of Smash bros. because Sony themselves stated that it was intended to be exactly like it except with Sony characters instead. I mean the game is alright but I still prefer Smash bros over it at any day of the week. Whats i'm trying to say is: Sony needs to come up with their own ideas instead of making ideas based off of another company's ideas for gaming. Especially if Sony isn't going to bother to support or give it more advertisements than it needs. I mean heck i wouldn't be surprised if Sony announced that the PS4 would have a controller that's similar to the Wii U Gamepad and does the exact thing. Because all SOny has been now these days is copy and paste from other game companies like nintendo.

Weiss 8,279 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) They seem to just copy most of the time. But really they have had some original ideas of their own. (thank you xaon) Can't say other companies don't do the same though. Edited February 17, 2013 by Keysofblades 1 FireRubies1 reacted to this
Demyx. 10,064 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) 1. Sony came out with the idea of motion control before the Wii came out. This was done on the PS2. 2. Considering all of the touch screen devices that are around right now, it is only natural for them to make a touch screen device. It is nothing like the DS. So, it isn't really a copy. I mean, how lame would it have been if they just released something like a PSP 2? They had to add new features to it. So, of course one of the things they add is going to be touch screen. I enjoy the Vita a lot. It really just depends on a person's opinion. It is still somewhat new so it just needs games to go along with it. 3. People have been asking for a Sony brawler for a long time. So, why wouldn't they make it? PS Allstars is far from a clone. Sure, it took the idea of bringing characters from different games and making a brawler out of it, but it plays very differently. I actually enjoy Allstars more then Smash for how different each character plays, it has a more complex fighting system and I really think it was cool how they took away the health bar and made the terms of winning different from any other fighting game. But really, that just comes down to opinion. So, no. I wouldn't say they are copying. The only thing you said that could be considered them copying is PS Allstars. But like I said, people had been asking for it for a long time and it is in no way a clone. **EDIT** Let me use your logic for a minute. The Vita came out before the Wii U. It can be connected to the PS3 and used as a controller. You can also play PS3 games on the Vita. So, if we use the logic that you used, Nintendo copied Playstation by making the Wii U. Sora96 17,256 Posted February 17, 2013 Anyone remember the reason Sony entered the video game industry? Because Nintendo refused to use discs in the next Nintendo Console. Sony released the PlayStation, the first console to use discs. And then they released the PlayStation 2. Nintendo then released the GameCube and Microsoft released the Xbox which both used discs. Sony is always on the forefront of technology and don't forget that. 5 Rob, RoxSox, Khrulesbbs and 2 others reacted to this
Amon 4,279 Posted February 17, 2013 Sony innovates their own technology and copies technology from others, just like every electronics company in existence. Nintendo and Microsoft do it just as much. Technology companies are almost entirely based off of further improving existing technologies. It's rather infrequent for companies to innovate brand new technology themselves and when they do, they usually buy it from a smaller company or individual. But this copying is generally an improvement on what's already been done. Even though the Playstation Move was a commercial failure, it motion control was much more accurate than the Nintendo Wii and could be used for more activities. Just like how the the Xbox 360 Kinect is essentially an improvement on the Playstation 2 Eye thingy (forget what it was called, but it was basically an interactive camera for the PS2). Also, the Wii Us gaming tablet is based off of a prototype made by THQ before they went under. Actually, the amount of money that went into this prototype with virtually no gains was the final nail in the coffin for THQ. Everyone is copying each other, but it's good for the industry. The businesses know they can't get away with outright copying the competitor, so they make small but noticeable improvements. Slowly but surely, the technology gets better and better and the games do as a result. 4 Sora96, Rob, Hei and 1 other reacted to this

Hei 3,233 Posted February 17, 2013 Sony has original ideas, and copies as well. Nintendo and Microsoft do the same thing, so it's really unfair to judge Sony like that.

axele 151 Posted February 18, 2013 You kidding ? Sorry if this sounds mean, but none idea is truly 100 % original these days. Final Fantasy stole ideas from Dragon Quest Most Fighting games are like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat Most platform games stole ideas from Mario and Sonic Nothing is really new and completely original with games these days. Even if it seems new like Ratchet and Clank if you study it you'll see that they copied things from the old Sonic games.
Henne 150 Posted February 18, 2013 Nintendo and Sony should just fuse. That would be awesome.
