Is Final Fantasy connected to Kingdom Hearts?

Kingdom Hearts has Final Fantasy character... but what Leon/Squall, Cloud, Yuffie, etc... do on Kingdom Hearts is connected to Final Fantasy series?

If it is... does it happen before, during or after Final Fantasy VII?

They're not copies, just in alternate universes. The things that happened to them in the Kingdom Hearts universe is not existent in their own universe. They're completely separate from the FF games.

Think of FF characters as cameos, cameos that have related side events to KH but not FF. If that makes any sense

Sometimes a Final Fantasy character will a play a similar role in Kingdom Hearts as they do in their own games, but it really just depends on the character, and not everything's canon to their Final Fantasy title.  For instance, Tifa and Cloud really are friends in Final Fantasy VII and she does look out for him, or Zack Fair in Birth by Sleep really DOES want to be a hero in Crisis Core.  Or Wakka really does play blitzball in Final Fantasy X.  But otherwise, the characters were basically taken from their game and thrown into Kingdom Hearts with completely different stories, and sometimes different backgrounds.

I actually thing that these are the same characters that were in the FF games. For example, in KH2, several things that Auron says leads us to believe that he is *that* Auron. Also, during the final credits, he vanishes into bits of light, like an Unsent. There are other things I could mention if you guys want me to.

pretty sure nothing that happens in kh affects the ff games. Aerith was still alive in kh after all.

Think about it, Cloud has no idea who Aerith is in Kingdom Hearts and Leon is 25, while in Final Fantasy VIII, he was seventeen. So why would he be older than Cloud? They're just in there because Square had to contribute something and they were like eh.

Oh gee, your right. I guess I didn't notice that they stopped adding Disney characters to the series, and no I don't expect for the FF characters to be major characters as they already had their own games for that. THANKS, I WASN'T AWARE THAT IT WASN'T A FINAL FANTASY GAME. I mean yeah, it's not like since the first game there have been FF elements as well as Disney elements or anything. And yup, we're just being illogical, there was no laughter or joking at all. Your reply makes no sense, that's the nicest way to say it.

KH and FF take place in parallel universes. This means that the FF characters who appear in KH are separate versions of the same individuals. As such there's bound to be some similarities. It has also been confirmed that in the KH universe Radiant Garden is the home town of Leon and the FFVII cast including Cloud even though he doesn't care what happens to it.

Don't forget, in KH2 Sephiroth is THE DARKNESS INSIDE OF CLOUD. In FFVII, Cloud and Sephiroth are not related in any way other then that Cloud became a Sephiroth clone after the Nibelheim incident.

Well, for example, Aerith lives in Traverse town in Kingdom Hearts. However, Aerith is killed by Sephiroth in FFVII, so it probably makes most sense for Kingdom Hearts to be a prequel to FFVII. Some things don't align, such as the way characters are presented with other FFVII characters, or how Aerith lives in Traverse town rather than the Sector 7 Slums.
