KH3D What happened with all the original actors of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tron Legacy (except for Jason Alexander and Charles Kimbrough)?

Recommended Posts

The reason why I'm asking this is because the voice cast, in my honest opinion got screwed up. Originally, when I first saw the Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance cast on IMDB (Internet Movie Database), it had Tom Hulce, Demi Moore, Kevin Kline, Jane Withers, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde including Christopher Lee in the cast list before the cast got changed and completely screwed up. At least Square Enix was able to get Jason Alexander & Charles Kimbrough though. I first once thought that almost all the original actors (Tom Hulce, Demi Moore, Kevin Kline, Jane Withers, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde) and not just Jason Alexander & Charles Kimbrough would reprise their roles except for Jeff Bridges, who played Kevin Flynn and Clu. But instead, everything of that changed when I got to look at the end credits of Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance after a walkthrough of the English version from Europe got posted on YouTube. While seeing the end credits, I found out there was no Tom Hulce or Demi Moore, Kevin Kline, Jane Withers, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde in the end credits (except for Jason Alexander & Charles Kimbrough). When I went on IMDB again, I discovered that Ari Rubin played Quasimodo (instead of Tom Hulce), Renee Faia played Esmeralda (instead of Demi Moore), Phil LaMarr played Phoebus (instead of Kevin Kline), Ross Thomas played Sam Flynn (instead of Garrett Hedlund) & Erin Cottrell played Quorra (instead of Olivia Wilde) including Corey Burton still doing Ansem the Wise / DiZ (instead of Christopher Lee, probably because he wanted to do The Hobbit). Though I was okay with Patricia Lenz doing Laverne and Fred Tatasciore doing Kevin Flynn, but I really didn't like what happened to the voice cast, but I still like the game and story of Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance. So do you guys think it was because Square Enix had some budget problems in hiring the original actors or something different happened? Please let me know.

i doubt Square had bugdet problems. They probably got other job offers.

"Kingdom Hearts, or some other real job as actor? So hard to decide"

Truth is, KH is not famous to be a Must Do job...

they did the same with the VA's from Pirates in KH2. they couldn't get them so they filled their shoes with "sound-alikes"

I would suspect either

Better Offers

Busy/Unavailable (clashing with other offers so even if they wanted they ultimately had to go with the better pay out)

SE/Disney wasn't willing to pay them what they wanted (divas)

^ Logical reasons

Generally for an actor, if given the choice to play the voice of a minor character in a game series (that while I think is popular, isn't really best selling) or else getting some real face time in a movie or show, they're go for the latter as they'll get more fame and most likely more cash/screen time.

Demi Moore was under depression at that time.

You got a point about that. Demi Moore had been under depression because of her and Ashton Kutcher obviously getting divorce. So that could be a possibility on why she was taken off the IMDB list in the first place.

I knew about the Pirates of the Caribbean actors not reprising their roles in Kingdom Hearts 2 as well. The cast of Pirates of the Caribbean couldn't do it because obviously Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End was still being filmed at the time. You know, sometimes using sound alikes sucks in my honest opinion. It's really hard for all of us to have to work with sound alikes on any kind of project whether it's film, TV or video game.

People put up names on IMDB without any real confirmation. (I think the cast of Frozen has been thrown up on KHIII's page before, if it's still not up there) I'm p. sure they just assumed that those actors were in the games instead of soundalikes. I seriously doubt Square were aiming to get in all of those actors, especially the likes of Olivia Wilde or Christopher Lee, the latter of which has basically been replaced by Corey Burton since Re:CoM.

Besides, most of the new cast sounds fine. In fact, the only actors I can tell sound distinctly different from their original actors is Corey Burton and Christopher Lee for DiZ (for obvious reasons) and James Arnold Taylor for Jack Sparrow, who does an 'okay' job of mimicking Johnny Depp.
