Tails 6,692 Posted January 24, 2013 Today, Guinness World Records, the global authority on record-breaking, announce the Top 50 Video Game Villains of All Time as voted for by over 5,000 of their readers. The list, which is revealed in its entirety in the new Guinness World Records 2013 Gamer’s Edition book, sees the iconic Bowser from Nintendo’s long-running Mario franchise crowned king, with Portal’s GLaDOS beaten into runner up spot. Bowser, from one of the most iconic and best-selling video game franchises of all time,Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo, 1985) landed top spot with over 20% of the vote. Mario’s arch enemy is nothing if not persistent: few enemies would attempt to kidnap the same princess twice, let alone eight times during the past 28 years! It seems his malevolent persistence has paid off with the ‘King of Koopas’ becoming the king of the videogame villains.
Ajexmi 446 Posted January 24, 2013 damnit. Eggman's a way better villain! 1 Tails reacted to this
Weedanort 8,786 Posted January 24, 2013 O.O They're kidding right? Bowser's just clichéd. There are way better video game villains out there.
Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted January 24, 2013 Well...yeah, I guess I can see why. He's not my personal favorite villain, but he's probably the most well-known.
Xalaru 445 Posted January 24, 2013 Of course he is. He's from the Mario series. Which gets like a billion titles released every couple months and is way overused by Nintendo. Everyone and their dog knows about Bowser. So many titles have come out that I'm actually sick of anything Mario-related now, and I used to quite like the games. Personally, I think Xehanort should have the title... I mean, c'mon, evil bald guy who has like 100 different versions of himself. 2 RikuVazquez and Captain Arrowguns reacted to this
Saber Lily 1,543 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) It's not like Xehanort has planned and is closer to suceeding - permanently - then Bowser has ever been. And Sephiroth? KEFKA?! Glados (idgaf about the capitals) should've at least landed the top spot. If Mario gets top hero, then I am gonna rage <. Geralt 4,874 Posted January 24, 2013 Really, Bowser? Well I see how they can do that but I don't agree fully. 1 Mystics Apprentice reacted to this

Jim 2,990 Posted January 24, 2013 Hm. Maybe I'm just biased, but I think Kuja and Xehanort are both better villains than Bowser. But hey, cool to see that GLaDOS is up there. It's not like she's anything special in terms of character development, but she's just friggin hilarious. "This next test was designed by a Nobel Peace Prize recipient! I'm not sure what the prize was for... well, I can tell you that it wasn't for being immune to neurotoxin." 1 Captain Arrowguns reacted to this

Jim 2,990 Posted January 24, 2013 She almost developed in Portal 2... She just erased any development she had made. Well, that's true. But I'm pretty sure she had already won awards after the first game came out and before the second, which is obviously before she got any development. Xehanort is a good villain but I don't think he deserves to be one of the best villians of all time. Don't get me wrong he is a good villian but just not as good as other villains are in video games. Jamos 27 Posted January 24, 2013 I don't mean to sound negative, but this list is rubbish. they must have typed it upside down or something wacky like that.

WakelessDream 2,280 Posted January 24, 2013 I can see why they would pick Bowser, but I'm a bit disappointed, I don't have anything against him or anything but I feel like part of the reason he made it to number one on that list is because he's by far the most well known villain, from one of the most well known video game franchises, I mean I'm pretty sure there are many more villains that fulfill the evil/manipulating/villainous role way better than Bowser. But that's just my take on it
Oishii 3,987 Posted January 24, 2013 As far as character depth/development, Bowser probably doesn't deserve that spot, but Glados does fulfill that role well. Portal 2 was amazingly written. As far as success goes, Bowser probably is the most successful villain in video games, which this article pretty much convinced me of. So, I can see how he got number one. The Mario franchise just lacks story development really... 1 DragonMaster reacted to this

Ajexmi 446 Posted January 24, 2013 It isn't exactly accurate. It's based on the 5000 readers of Guinness, and they do not represent the gamers of the world and non readers of Guinness. It's like the 'top of the pops' or chart music in general. Long live alternative gamers!
