Should I Do This?

Recommended Posts

So I'm thinking about importing Digimon Adventure for the PSP. I loved Digimon when I was a kid and the first season is my favorite. Thing is, I don't understand Japanese at all, but the game has practically 0% chance of being localized. It's a brand new game so there isn't even an English patch for it yet. This is the first game I've ever even considered importing so that tells you how much I want it. Should I go ahead and import or let it go. If you're not a fan (or even if you are) please don't let that color your advice. Try to be objective. Please KH13 help me out!

I'm curious too, what's the game?

Well, if you can search for guides online and you're willing to spend time visiting them constantly, to know stuff like what to do next, or even translator guides, which will make you go to them A LOT, them you should do it. I imported KH2FM, and I liked it, I knew almost everything I'd do, and I had to have a guide next to me to check stuff like abilities, which cost some time, but it was totally worth it for me.

And will you get anything from the game? I mean, is it fully in japanese, or like Kingdom Hearts' Final Mixes?

I would say no. There's so many great games out there right now I wouldn't be buying, let alone spending the extra to import, a PSP game.

But if there's nothing you'd rather have and this game will make you happy, then go for it. Games can be a very personal experience, and if this game will give you a satisfaction that no other title will sate then maybe it's worth it.

If you're 100% positive it isn't being released internationally, and you really want the game, my advice is that you import it. I don't know if this works for you, but I have been able to understand a few foreign games by recognizing reappearing symbols/words.

It's fully Japanese but it follows the first season of the anime almost exactly so I won't be completely lost.
If its a fighting game go for it, i have bleach and i understand how to play it...somehow

Yeah I'm pretty sure it won't be coming stateside. Both Digimon and the PSP are pretty much dead in the West and it's made by Namco Bandai who are notorious for not localizing the vast majority of their games.

If you're 100% sure the game isn't being localized anywhere else, I say go for it. You said it was a brand new game, and there hasn't been an English patch yet. If I were you, I'd wait for an English patch. If an English patch isn't released, then I'd import it.

If you know it's not coming to the U.S., and you really want to play it asap, import it. I remember wanting to import Mother 3 so bad but I decided against it and waited for the english patch instead. And whatdya know, one comes out, and it's the best day of my life since it's understandable as well. Idk, I say I'd wait for a patch, unless you need to play it like it's your life, then import it of course!

Ah, the anniversary game. I'd say that has no chance of getting an english patch, unless a patcher is feeling so nostalgic like never before to do it.

If you think you'll like it and are sure it's not in your country or another country where you'd understand the language it's in then definitely go for it imo.

I've been tempted with Japanese exclusive games as well (namely Chrono Trigger's sequel for the SNES), but I've always decided against them since I can't read Japanese at all.  It might be worth it if it's a game that won't require much reading, but, if it does, I wouldn't do it.  It'll get too easy to get stuck somewhere.

It's your personal preference. I wouldn't buy it, just because I'd find it annoying to play something I didn't understand. But if you like it enough, you might as well go for it. (:  Either way, at some point someone's going to post rough translations, so you might just be able to read through those.
