The Experiment ((RolePlay)) -- Part 1

Recommended Posts

Okay, I’m going to reiterate the scenarios and add a wee bit more detail to each. Then the rules, and then I’ll start off. If you want to see the original scenarios or anything else, the link is below to the signup.

http://kh13.com/forum/topic/47177-the-experiment-signups/

VOLUNTEER (PROGRAMMERS)::

  “You will be given 1 assignment per week, complete the assignment, or 5 million dollars is removed from your reward. The faster you complete it, the better off you are.” the voice chimed, seemingly happily. “You control the weather, the animals, natural disasters. However, you all have the same island. If one of you makes it rain, everyone’s island rains. Work together or apart, it is your choice.” the voice said, smug and almost condescendingly. “Good luck, to all. Let your games begin.”

FORCED (SIMULATIONS)::

  “You will be given one hint, per week. And two guesses as to who your programmer is, total. If you do not guess correctly, you will remain here, on the island, until someone wins. Be aware, you cannot talk to each other, and your programmer is someone with a connection to you. Good luck, subjects.” The voice said, before a ringing came into the earpiece seemingly embedded in your ear.

Upon standing up, you can see three small backpacks, with names on them. You recognize one as yours. There is a small note attached,

“This is your backpack, care for it, as it will hold everything you may need. Choose what you put in it wisely, keep your clues, or throw them out, carry food or water. but you can only carry one. Choose wisely.”

ROLEPLAY RULES:: I've bolded the important parts, but read the whole thing.

-- Do not, I repeat--do NOT--kill anyone. Period. Whether you have their permission or not, this isn’t a killing roleplay.

-- This is also not a romantic or a friendship roleplay. This is a survival roleplay, and should be treated as such. No romance. I guess you CAN flirt, but that’s not going to do anything. Remember, only the Programmers can talk to each other as they all share a language.

-- Do not post in a different language Simulations. I can only read English, and that’s the only language we really need. Just know, you can’t talk to each other. Or, you can, but it wouldn’t make sense to either of you.

-- All people are ‘trapped’. The Programmers get food and drink, and potty breaks, but really, they can’t leave their computers. Their roleplaying should be focused on what they think of the experiment, and what they do with it. Unless you’re conversing with the other members, there isn’t really an ‘outside world’.

-- Out of character chat relating to the roleplay should take place in parenthesis IN the roleplay. If it doesn’t relate to the roleplay, or you’re just commenting on something the roleplay made you think, or do, or act… It can go in an instant message or on the signup sheet.

-- Don’t hassle others to reply. In turn, reply. Don’t wait for a week and not reply, if you do not reply in 1 and 1/2 weeks (Unless I’m notified you cannot, or the other members are notified.) you will be removed, and your character replaced.

-- The only people who control the weather are the Programmers, I cannot step in and make it rain, they change it, they also can make trees grow fruits, and animals have babies and exist. They cannot however, write, talk, or communicate to the Simulations in ANY way.

-- I will NOT be winning. Since I know who is my programmer, it’s not fair for me to figure it out. There is only 1 winner. Not 1 for each group, 1.

-- You can NOT go back and reference clues you throw out. Meaning, work with what you’ve got. You can retain a clue for 3 days following when you pick it up, unless it is placed in your backpack. You can either carry all your clues, or 3 small items. It is your choice.

-- And, last but not least, this roleplay takes place in real time. Based off of Eastern Standard Time. That’s the east coast of North America. If you need a basis, ask, I’ll give you their time.

SIGNED UP::

Programmers:: (The stuff in parenthesis is your task this week. It's like a cool title. )

  • Amber Ashley (The Banisher)
  • Bowen Korber (The Adult)
  • Van Fabre (The Protector)

Simulations::

  • Tessaline Lien (Italian)
  • Silver Mors (French)
  • Cassidy Kingly (English)

Now let's start!

Tessaline slowly climbed to her feet, looking around her. "Oh look, backpacks." she said, as though annoyed. She had sand covering her and all over her clothes. She looked like a wreck. "Isn't this just greeeaaaat?" she grumbled, walking over to the backpacks.

...

Upon reading the note attached she frowned thinking, 'Well, if I take my clues, I won't be able to carry water. And that one survival guy on TV always says water is important. I guess I'll figure out how to carry water and food in my bag. Water, food, and maybe there will be space for a tool or something.' She then slung the empty backpack over her shoulders, and glanced back at the other two. 'Who are those two? Why am I here? Why are they here?' she wondered, curiously watching the strangers.

There was sand coating her mouth. God was it just the worst taste to have with all the little grains sticking to her tongue. Two other people in the same predicament, a backpack, along with a choice to be made. "Well if I keep the clues I have a better chance at figuring who it is. Though water would be a good thing I could manage." Musing all to herself she grabbed the bag. Clues would be the more precious things to keep at this moment. Turning her head she noted a girl was eyeing her. With the same curiousity fumbling with her own thoughts she gave the girl a two fingered wave before working on finding out a little more about the place she was trapped in.

I gazed at the large monitor in front of my face, the soothing sounds of the island quietly emanating from my headphones. Suddenly, the Simulations appeared on the monitor, and they appeared to be interacting already. I noticed one give a slight wave to another confused-looking girl. Interesting, these programs were already developing, at an alarming rate as well. Looks like I'd get that money first.... But which program was I in charge of? I couldn't help but to take an interest in the one that waved... her interaction skills are quite high considering the fact that she was just programmed into the simulation. This was incredibly realistic, almost too realistic in fact... But that would mean acting like a god would be much truer to the real-experience. To test my abilities, I thought of a flock of seagulls flying over the island, and suddenly, that came to be on the screen. Hundreds of birds croaked and exclaimed as they flew over the island in a large pack, flying right over the simulations. Success! I pressed another button and a recording symbol popped up on a separate screen, one I used to display various technical information. I spoke into the microphone, being sure to keep track of my progress. "My new abilities are indeed working. I'm currently awaiting to see how the simulations react to this inexplicable occurrence..."

Van sat in a relatively comfy office chair, staring at the computer screen before him. He had signed up for a 'programming' job, to test some sort of new simulation or whatever. Van could win a large amount from this...yet he could not leave until the simulation ended.

He laid back in his chair, sighing. "I hope this is worth it.." He murmured, leaning forward as the simulation started. Already, the characters within were beginning to interact with one another.

"It's like the Sims...but more realistic." He said out loud, cracking his knuckles, "Let's see what this simulation can do."

Tessaline frowned, and glanced up, her mouth dropped. "Thats a lot of birds..." She muttered, before shaking her head. "Of course there is, I'm in the middle of the ocean. There's birds." She muttered, before turning and walking into the forest, trying to dispel the fear creeping the back of her mind. What if she was all alone out here, away from everyone else, and no one would find her? 'No. That couldn't be. There's no way.' she thought, shaking her head. "They'll find us." she said, quite loudly. But there was no reply, her voice echoing off the trees.

Amber was busy watching the screen. She wasn't focusing or doing anything else than looking at the screen. She looked at the one virtual girl who was all alone. "That model looks too nice for my taste. I wish a male king lion would come out of the forest to where she is and attack her and not stop until she was totally hurt. That would actually be cool if it was a real person, but I guess a virtual model of a person would have to do." Amber said with a dark smile. She then lifted up a cup of coffee and started to relax and drink it for a moment. While she was doing that, a lion, like the one she described, appeared on screen when Amber wasn't looking at it.

Birds so many birds. If only she had a gun or something that would be a fairly nice dinner later on. Walking along the craggy coast of the place she kicked at rocks humming to herself the old she knew before she softly began whispering. '"Give me a mocking jay, to see myself away. Take my jay away, slowly sway away, to the beat of my closing waves. See my jay stays so far away, to keep my sway away." An old tune she couldn't remember the meaning for but a relaxing one all in all. Looking up she glared at the birds flying so high above her reach. 'It's not fair that they can fly away.'

I closely looked at the screen, and cranked up the volume in my ears so I could hear what the various simulations were speaking. They seemed to be speaking in whispers for some reason.... I cleared my throat and spoke into the microphone once again. "The birds seem to be invoking certain... sentimental values into the simulations... odd that programs that are virtual have memories this complex and in depth, to the point that they can recite folk songs. One of them appears to be in the denial stage. These are truly incredible replicas, and whoever programmed these things must have an immense amount of experience in operations and software. This is Bowen Korber, the date is January 16th, 2013. It is currently 6:34 Eastern Time, and I've decided to take a momentary break to eat and observe how the simulations settle and adjust to this new environment. I'll provide different scenarios and conflicts soon, but I feel it is too early now. Bowen out." I clicked the button and the record symbol disappeared. I removed the wires attached to my head then took out the headphones. Then, I pressed another button in order to get in touch with the people in charge of this whole thing. I spoke clearly in to the microphone. "Excuse me anyone, but can I get some food and take a trip to the restroom?"

(( Okay programmers, time for your first task. You have until this sunday to complete it. I know that's not a week, but I wish you all luck. ))

A voice entered the programmer's room. "Welcome programmers. I see now that you are experimenting with your abilities. Congratulations on your luck. There are 3 of you, and one of you will win..."

"Now, your first task will be sent to you, in a text box, to each of your computers. Please open it, and memorize your task, as it will be deleted once you read it. Also, put on the glasses placed to your right, they will allow you to read it. Each of your glasses only works for your computer, do not try to read other's tasks."

The glasses seemed to appear out of nowhere, appearing to your right. You figure you should put them on. As soon as you do, a text box appears on your computer, with your instructions.

Amber Ashley

--- This is a message only for your eyes. This message will be deleted after read, so please read the full and entire message before closing. ---

  • Congratulations! You are one of three people chosen to help our scientific research. This task should be easy, especially for you, Amber. Friends or enemies, all can be subject to make mistakes. You have been chosen to fix these mistakes. Choose one simulation person, of your choice, and cause them to make a mistake. Whether, trapped outside in a storm, or trapped in a pit. And then, give them the 'inspiration' to fix their mistake. Remember, these simulations must continue to live, and run their program. But they are designed to react to what you do to them. So play nice, Amber. And good luck.

Bowen Korber

  • Congratulations! You are one of three people chosen to help our scientific research. A God cannot be seen, heard, or show any evidence of them existing. The other two Programmers make many messes, and it's your job to clean them up. Do not let the simulations know that you exist, any of you. You are to be invisible, and make occurrences seem natural and explainable. Good luck, Bowen. You have your work cut out for you.

Van Fabre

--- This is a message only for your eyes. This message will be deleted after read, so please read the full and entire message before closing. ---

  • Congratulations! You are one of three people chosen to help our scientific research. Your task is simple, protect the simulations from harm. Many animals and natural disasters may try to get in your way, however, you are to guide them, and care for them. Do not allow them to come to harm. Be aware, once something is placed on the island, it cannot be removed, but, you can place something else, or cause something else to occur to stop it. You are their protector, be kind, care, and most of all, don't let them get hurt.

(( Go ahead and read each others if you want, but realize that not all of you can succeed. This will be the focus, you are not working together, you are separate, and it'll get increasingly harder. Good luck! :D ))

Ever had that strange feeling something bad was going to happen we're you could've fight back? That was what she felt right now. Humming the Mocking jay tune just barely hearable to even herself while looking at the sky. "Something's not right about any of this." 'Like I'm a rat in the middle of a couple cats. This certainly isn't normal in any way.' At least everything was reasonably entertaining. Kicking rocks out of her way she began to search for shell to use for water with another for smaller amounts of food.

Tesaline frowned, she was worried. "It'll all be okay..." she reminded herself, shaking her head. The momentary distraction caused her to stumble and fall over a root. "Damned roots." she hissed, kicking the tree. She knew she needed water, and food. "How am I going to carry food? Or water?" she wondered, worriedly.

(( Sorry this is a short post, and since our last lovely Simulation isn't here, I'd ask someone got rid of the lion, and we let her sit there and think until she joins us. ;) ))

I read the message then took took the glasses off, folded them slowly, and placed them back on the counter where the monitor was. I closed the message with a smirk. Looks like I wouldn't be getting my wish to use the bathroom after all. I clicked the message closed and attached the wires back to my head, sticking the headphones in my ears simultaneously. I'm to be a god that is invisible, not only that, but I have to cover for the other programmers' assess too. Looks like they weren't lying when they said I had my work cut out for me.... The that the glasses appeared seemingly out of nowhere in front of me seemed to intrigue me. What if we were inside a simulation ourselves and someone else was controlling us, who were controlling the other simulations? It was doubtful, since I possessed the capability to have thoughts of awareness of even further controllers... but hey, anything was possible? Besides, even if this was a simulation, this was incredibly entertaining already.... I felt around the area where the glasses appeared and felt a small crack on the counter. There must be a secret compartment or something that they use to give me these items. I decided to abandon these extreme thoughts and refocused my attention on the screen. I pushed the button on the recorder, "Natural and explainable is how everything should be, much like the world we live in ourselves. Everything must be a coincidence, there should be no signs of a god anywhere in this situation, therefore I've decided to lay low for now and observe until further notice. However, I will make certain placeholders to keep the simulations in their current adaptive state. Bowen out." I pressed the button again and began to think about things.... That's when, on one of the screens, I noticed a lion had appeared. Were these people idiots I were working with? I needed to act fast. It would be quite odd if there was only one lion on this island. Lions need prey as well. I created several lions, about twenty, on the other side of the island, far away from the simulations, and added a few zebras in the depth of the jungle, as well as some near the lions. There, now it would seem like a more believable ecosystem. I leaned back in my chair and gazed attentively at the monitor. Most of the simulations were in no immediate danger, but hopefully with the inclusion of such vicious predators, they would have an incentive to adapt more quickly.

Growling. It struck her ears as a early warning. "There's growling. Which means I'm food if I don't move." Quickly grabbing the large shell she would find use for later on before dashing silently into a growth of thick trees. The thick on going mass of trees would be her cover. Hopefully they would decide chasing her would be a bad and wasteful move. The others were more in the open than she was. "This place is going to want to murder me. That isn't fair." Really this place was being far from fair at this moment. Hopefully something would turn the odds in her favor later on.

Amber rolled her eyes after she read her task. "Play nice, do they not know who I am?" Amber asked aloud. She then began to think. "I wonder who to pick on?" she asked herself. She then noticed that the girl alone in the forest would be a good choice. "Yeah, I was already starting to hate that program already, so I think that she would be a good choice." Amber said. She then heard what the girl was saying. "Hates roots and needs food and water? I don't know what type of programs these things are, but I think I have a lead to work with." Amber said as she smiled dark. She then changed the way that the forest looked by causing a forest fire to set off. The fire then made the whole forest to catch fire. She then made different types of forest animals and caused them to run in the direction of the girl. "I love this job already." Amber said as she smiled. She then created a bunch of roots around the girl that were hardly visible to know that they were there.

Tessaline turned, hearing the forest start to roar. This was not good. "S***" she snapped, turning and running away from the fire, back towards the beach. She knew there would be no food or water there, but it would be safer away from the fire. "Come on Tessaline! Run faster!" she hissed, not audible. She continued to stumble, and fall as she ran through the forest. There was a solid thump on her back as a large animal knocked her over, running past her. She couldn't tell what animal it was, because she didn't have the time to look up. But she could feel it. "Ouch." she cried, picking herself up and making a break for the beach.

What the hell!? Setting the island on fire? My job is gonna be impossible at this rate! I created several cumulonimbus clouds off in the distance, not right above the island. This way, the clouds will appear in a few hours and cause a storm, but not immediately and thus not giving away my presence. How could I deal with this fire right now though? I sighed out loud in aggravation. Looks like I was gonna have to let this one slip. I rubbed my forehead and the glasses caught my eye. Maybe.... If I could somehow tamper with these glasses, I could give them the ability to allow me to read any other messages the other programmers may receive in the future... that would prove to be quite useful in fact. Better not risk it now though, not this early in the testing... I need that money, its the only way I can come to realize my dreams...

Tessaline stumbled onto the beach and stared at the forest. "Oh. My. God." she cried, tears brought to her eyes. I'm going to die. I'm going to die a horrible death here." she cried, curling up and crying into her knees. She was a mess, covered in soot and dirt, her clothes wrinkled and coated in sand. "It hasn't even been a day!" she screamed, into the sky.

In an instant she ran out of the forest looking at the spreading fire from a good distance away. "You have to kidding me. First on fire with a lion almost having me for a snack! This place is crazy as hell!" Stomping her foot against the sand she leaned back landing on the sand with a soft thump. This of course made things a lot harder than before. "Can't go in there for food. Maybe there is fish or something in the water if I'm lucky enough." Not her day at all. Neither was it anyone else's.

Amber was laughing at the mess she created. "This is fun." she said. She then went back to focus and started to think about the next part of her goal. "So, what should I do next? How can I get this twreep to become inspired to fix this type of mistake?" Amber asked herself. Then an idea hit her, like a car hitting another car head on, and she smiled at this thought she just had. She created a mother Cheeta and two of her young cubs. They ran out of the burnt forest and to where the girl was. They looked poor and scared. Amber then created two empty buckets where the girl was. "Now all she has to do is take those and fix the fire problem by taking out with buckets of water. Then I shall finish the rest of the plan." Amber said to herself.

Tessaline stared at the magically appearing buckets and the cheetas. "What kind of island is this?!" she screamed, stumbling to her feet and running away from the cheetas and the bucket and everything. "This is crazy. I'm crazy!" she screamed, as she stumbled through the sand, trying to run off of the island, or running until she collapsed. It no longer mattered to her, she just wanted to be away from everything. "Just make it stop..." she cried, tears rolling down her cheeks and blurring her vision.

Van shoved on the glasses, hurriedly looking at his message.

"Protect them." He murmured, looking back at the simulation. All hell had broken loose, fires, lions...everything was screwed over. "Dang it.." He said, immediately typing on the keyboard. The programs...looked so real, he realized. The acted far better than any AI...so..realistic.

"Cheetas? No." Van muttered, typing in a command //:make_trap: pithole.

The command should, in theory, create a sinkhole the poor 'cheetas' would fall into.

After the cheetas fell into a sinkhole, Amber became mad. "It looks like I am going to have to go better than this. Maybe something no one can turn down." Amber smiled. She created a rain cloud to come and wash the fire away. She then sent animals to where the girl was. They looked like they were trying to say, 'Don't give up, don't give in. You can make it through this, and you will be the best. But first, could you please help us get a new home since ours burnt down?' A bunny then came over to her with a few seeds on its back that could be used to help fix the forest. Amber thought that this was sweet, too sweet, that it was perfect to work, even though she hated it as bad as people hate to be broke when they want to buy something.

Tessaline was worried. Why did animals keep comin up to her? She moved away, her eyes wide and scared. "Get away!" She screamed, scrambling on the sand, causing it to fly off in all directions. "Get away..."

It was about at that moment that she noticed that all the animals were acting strange. "The programmers?" She asked herself, staring at the animals surrounding her.

Suddenly, Amber made the animals all disappear. She then made a log fall on the girl's head to think everything was a dream when she woke up. She then made the forest go back to normal like nothing ever happened. "That was all too close. That girl is going to be the death of me." Amber said. She then thought, "So, how am I going to make her a hero before Sunday? Should I just create Captain Hook to come and kidnap her so she can then rise to the cause?" Amber thought to herself.  Amber wanted the money at the end because she really needed it to continue in her life.
