Bakuman is manga made by series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Okata, yes the same genius duo who made Death Note. The first chapter was released in Weekly Shonen Jump on August 11, 2008 and manga ended april 23, 2012 with 176 chapters.

Bakuman was one of the best selling mangas of 2011 and 2012.

Plot:

Everything begins when Moritaka Mashiro, a junior high student, forgets his notebook in class. His classmate, Akito Takagi, notes Mashiro's drawings in it and asks him to become a manga artist to his stories. Mashiro declines, citing his late uncle, a manga artist, who died from overwork. Takagi incites Mashiro to meet with Miho Azuki, Mashiro's crush, and tells her the two plan to become manga artists. In response, Azuki reveals her plans to be voice actress. Mashiro proposes to her that they should both marry when Azuki becomes a voice actress for the anime adaptation of their manga. The two then start creating their manga, under the pen name Muto Ashirogi, in hopes of getting serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump.

Basically the beginning is kinda boring and the first chapters of the series made me think this as some kind of romance oriented manga, but after few chapters Mashiro and Tagaki's rival appears (who is same kind of guy as L or Near from DN btw) and things start to get more interesting. Then there is just ton of new mangakas appearing to challenge them and lot of unexpected stuff happens. (sorry can't explain too much without spoiling everything to you)

Some of my thoughts:
This is really good manga, the story is actually very interesting and surprisingly exciting when you think that this is series about drawing manga. What I really liked about this was specially good humor that was somewhat unusual, but not too weird and annoying. Also the characters are all cool and drawings look SO good in the end of this manga. The ending is somewhat unsatisfying and I would have liked to see even 2 or 3 more chapters.

Here is one of 'special' art from 19. volume of manga:

I can't say too much about anime because I haven't watched it yet, but it is made by same studio that has made animes such as Shakugan no Shana, Toradora, Azumanga Daioh etc. so it should be pretty good.

What are your opinions on this series? I personally can recommend this to every fan of manga/anime. Well you should check this out just for the fact that it is from makers of Death Note

I love bakuman but... what was the point of this thread?

Well there isn't any discussion thread for Bakuman yet and I also wanted to recommend it. Also I rather make thread which gives some sort of information about manga, like who has made it, how long it is etc. than just making another thread like "Herpy derpu! I liek dis manga? Anyone else agreez with me?" So yeah basically point of this thread is for discussion for Bakuman. Don't see the point why this shouldn't exist.

too much words... summerize?

It's manga

I'm confused, did you mean there's going to be an anime adaption? I haven't read/seen it so the mangaception is kind of throwing me off.

The start being boring isn't that strange to me considering Naruto began with toilet jokes. And even that was based on Dragonball which until the end was a joke manga too.

I haven't seen Azumanga Daioh either, but the clips from Amv hell and such seemed to have okay quality and animation so it should be fine. Since I hadn't heard of it my post is kind of pointless because I don't have an opinion on it, and I usually don't seek out series unless i'm personally requested to regardless of quality.

Sorry I messed up :P i meant anime, not manga.

Many of my favorite series has had really exciting first episodes so boring beginning is kinda big deal to me.

Azumanga Daioh is basically just gag anime. Only anime that I have laughed so hard at that I have almost cried.

The manga was great! I liked how it gives people the idea of what it's like in the manga (and voice acting) industry. The ending did come a little fast and I defiantly didn't expect it to end that soon. You're right, it should have been a bit longer. The anime is cool but I stopped watching after the second season bc I got too lazy to look it up lol. It was a really great series.

Azumanga Diaoh is an awesome manga/anime!

Lol, how do you feel about series that start off exciting but then flashback to another part of the story until they catch up? Also yeah, when I saw the clips of it I was like how can this make sense in context? Then I realized it must have been comedy from the start.

Hey guys I just wanted to know that how come there isn't a full English dub for Bakuman?? I mean they dubbed the first two seasons but Media Blasters never realesed them. Then again they went out of buisness. Has anyone heard any news on the anime being dubbed again? It's unfortunate to see such a great anime/manga go to waste..
