Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted December 13, 2012 When I'm not gaming (or on this site) I'm quite the bookworm. I mostly love fantasies, mysteries, mild romance, and the occasional sci-fi. I began thinking that there must be SOME author that was inspired by either Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy and wrote something similar, but I'm not quite sure where to begin looking. Has anyone read anything remotely similar to the aforementioned series? More specifically, anything with characters or plots similar to any of the Kingdom Hearts games, Final Fantasy VI, or VII? Weiss 8,279 Posted December 13, 2012 I really want to say Sword of Shannara here. It has some Final Fantasy similarities at parts and is really good. Magic, medievel and different races of life. It's quite good and definitely worth a try if you're into the fantasy genre and want something kind of similar. 2 Mystics Apprentice and Zola reacted to this
Ruran 481 Posted December 13, 2012 I haven't read it so you can take my world by only so much but "The Little Prince" sounds like it has a somewhat similar premise to KH. 1 Mystics Apprentice reacted to this
4Everbee 1,365 Posted December 13, 2012 Eh. Well Sherrilyn Kenyon Chronicles of Nick books remind me of Kingdom hearts. You can try those. 1 Mystics Apprentice reacted to this
Slicer9875 27 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) While I wouldn't say these exactly resemble KH or FF, they are good-amazing actually. They are in the scifi genre but trust me, it's not about aliens, robots or anything like that. It's more online gaming based anyway. Not really sure how to describe it. Well here's a few. If you want fantasy, action, and military type novel, then 4 would probably be the best fit. 1) Sword Art Online: Amazing, it's really easy to get hooked. 2) Accel World. 3) Legend of The Sun Knight : Ironic and fantasy genre. 4) Chrome Shelled Regios 5) 1/2 Prince : Unfortunately, it'll be complete by the end of the month. Was good and funny more online fantasy genre. Edited December 13, 2012 by Slicer9875 1 Oishii reacted to this

That's very interesting. I've heard a lot about The Little Prince, but never would've thought it'd be like Kingdom Hearts. Thanks for recommending it; I might just go check it out! I also really enjoy Sword Art Online, but I thought it was only a manga/anime series?
Slicer9875 27 Posted December 16, 2012 Yeah. There are translations done for the light novel version. I started with the novel though.
Ptolema 404 Posted February 7, 2013 13 Treasures and its sequels are really good. Though I like the first and second better. It's mostly fantasy and a little mystery. Beautiful Creatures is my current favorite. It's fantasy and romance.
Zola 3,038 Posted February 7, 2013 So some sort of techno fantasy? Hmmm... Shannara definitely has the techno fantasy going on, airships and all, in varying degrees depending on which book you're reading. If you enjoy more of a high/epic fantasy with good storyline, try the To Light a Candle / the obsidian series. For straight sci-fi with KHesque storyline, look into the Dragonback series by Timothy Zahn. I'm pretty sure none of these were inspired by KH/FF in any way, though. Good luck finding one! 1 Mystics Apprentice reacted to this
