Someone suggested to me that zexion had found out to much about riku or the replica project, cant say for certain, for all anyone knows, i could have just been shooting a guess in the complete oposite direction of the true answer

Mithurshun, Zexion wasn't a traitor. He was one of the most dedicated members of Org. XIII, so how could he be a traitor? >.<

VenxAqua is right. It was so Saix could rise through the ranks.

And roxas#13, Saix would get the higher rank because he has a higher rank than Axel. All the ranks basically moved up from what rank they were originally.

HOLD ON. Saix and Axel where best friends before they became nobodys so why would he want axel dead that makes no sense at all. And if you played RE: COM Reverse Rebirth the last thing axel said to zexion was "Sorry Zexion.....You just found out way too much." Axel was coaxing the replica into absorbing Zexion's power and being so that he could defeat Riku and become real, but apperantly no one was supposed to learn of this plan. Riku ends up defeating the replica so it was sorta an empty destruction.

siax didn't want axel dead, he just wanted him to eliminate the traitors, and in 358/2 days, when axel comes back, he says he killed zexion because that's how siax wanted it, but a lot of people, including me, don't know why that is, so the rank theory seems likely, but whose to say siax wasn't already xemnas's number two

Some of you are REALLY close. It was because, with Zexion's status, (presumed to be 4th in power rank) and the importance of the Castle Oblivion mission, when advancements came, he would replace Xaldin, making him 3rd in power. That means that Saix would only be one advancement away from being replaced by him. To insure he kept the power of being Second in command, Saix sent Axel to eliminate the problem before it got to far.

Axel never killed Zexion. Zexion was defeated by Riku and had run away. Axel told Riku Replica to adsorb Zexions Power. Chances are Zexion would have faded away. Saix was already second in Command. He just wanted Vexen Lexaeus and Zexion out of the way, same with the traitors Marluxia and Larxene. Xigbar is 3rd in Command. Sad to say Xaldin was not a elite member he knew nothing about Xion, he was just as surprised as Luxord and Demyx.
