Anyone else hear the orchestral version of the song in Chapter 3?

Great show all around. To this day, I still adore the dynamic between Blake and Sun.

Chapter 6

The pure unfolding of each of the characters made my day.

First of all, I have to say the animation is starting to disappoint after a whole 4-5 episodes of good animation. The characters, especially when they walk, look really stiff.

While almost everyone (except Weiss) has grown on me, after seeing 3 episodes of him, I still can't sit well with Ren's character model.

Real talk: It's weird as hell that Casey, who sings absolutely everything else, is dubbed over Weiss. Don't like it.

ON THE CONTRARY FROM THE NEGATIVE CRAP

Weiss got some really nice unfolding. Now we know that she left because she's fed up with problems that don't mean shit from the rich people in Atlas. In that way, she's kinda relatable to me, in a way that I'd never expect Weiss to ever be. This is the first episode that I genuinely enjoyed seeing Weiss, and I like it.

Uh oh. Tyrian is back. (Like the eye color change) And guess what? He's a poisonous faunus. Guess who got stung by poison, only able to take nine steps before falling dead..?

...

Hype! :D

So I watched it, and it's a pretty cool episode. :) I really hope Qrow's going to be alright. And second, now I really hate papa schnee.

I'm a little surprised that Volume 4 is already close to its conclusion.  I feel that they've barely scratched the surface on the current situation, and so far the volume feels like a lot of fillers and not particularly fluid story-telling.  Ah well; I hope that they at least conclude what happens to Sun and Qrow before it ends (unless they did in episode 10, which I have yet to see).

And yay, they're bringing Red vs. Blue back!

RWBY Volume 4 was THE WORST Volume of the series by far.

There was nothing in it worth watching.

The characters are suddenly cliche and have been done before. The story barely has any progress through these 12 episodes, the animation of the characters is awkward and makes no sense since people DO NOT move like what they show. The action scenes are BAD! They are so terrible that fan animations are suddenly better than the official thing, and that is inexcusable. The only good fight scenes were the character short with Ruby and Qrow's fight. Everything else is below average. I could go into detail why each fight scene is terrible but that will take a long time.

Apparently there is supposed to be more focus on the story and improved writing but we get NOTHING that comes close.

It's cliche'd sideplot to cliche'd sideplot. The character moments are COPY PASTED from other shows (cough, cough, Blake-Father scene, cough, The Last Airbender, cough.) and it's just insulting. Both to the show since they are not worthy of paraphrasing it and to the viewers because Rooster Teeth just assumed we wouldn't be smart enough to notice.

Weiss's backstory is annoying. It just tries to mimic Frozen...For some reason. Then we have the characters around her who are not redeemable in any way.

Yang's sideplot is just boring since we just see her trying to get back to a normal life, but we never see any in-depth development. Also something tells me that her story will mimic Legend of Korra...There is not evidence to suggest that atm, and if it doesn't happen I apologize.

RNJR's story is somewhat uninteresting too. We're supposed to get this revenge story from Ren and Nora but it came off as blunt, in my opinion...Like there was nothing new to see in their backstory. The Grimm's design was really good but it cannot save the Volume.

Then there are characters who just became unlikable in this Volume. I never minded Sun before but now I HATE HIM. He freaking eavesdrops on Blake and her dad! Does he have NO morals or social standards? You might say, "what he wanted to say to Blake was really urgent" but then why didn't he just knock on the door instead of staying right behind it to eavesdrop on them!?

This Volume is compiled of awkwardness, mediocrity, insults, unlikeability, laziness, and nonsense.

It feels like there was NO effort put into it.

3/10 and that's being generous.

My personal thoughts on RWBY Volume 4 (Warning: Long):

I absolutely adored this Volume. This sentence can pretty much sum up my feelings for this entry in the story, but I'll go further into detail.

Due to the aftermath of Volume 3, the characters are obviously not shown at the same time and thus, their stories are shown separately and spread across episodes. The main focus was on team RNJR, but the rest of team RWBY also had their time in the spotlight. The time spent for Weiss, Blake and Yang was balanced out perfectly and just enough was shown for their respective situations and stories; not too much and not too less.

Let's start with Weiss:

She has been taken back home by her father and we are introduced to Whitley and Klein. I really enjoyed this segment of the Volume. Seeing Weiss become rebellious and standing up feels so rewarding, especially after comparing to how she started out in Volume 1; seeing the huge difference from back then to now just gets me really happy. I always felt bad for her in whatever unfortunate situation she was in, from her father's abuse to her loss of her future role. It really puts into perspective what kind of family she was raised in, with the painting hinting and giving us the first sign back in Chapter 2. I felt awful when everything was crumbling and falling apart within mere minutes. But in the end, she finally took a step forward and was not only able to finally completely summon the knight from the White trailer, but to also escape from her own home and search for pretty much the only family member she can call family; Winter.

Now for Blake:

Out of these three, I found Blake's story to be the most interesting and entertaining.  I honestly wasn't expecting to see Blake's parents, but here they are and I absolutely love them. The interactions between Sun and Blake were amazing. I loved seeing these two interacting and working together, with Chapter 3 being an excellent start to this adventure of theirs. Menagerie was such a beautiful setting with its gorgeous environments and interesting culture. Blake reuniting with her parents was really pulling my heart strings and I just couldn't help but smile; reunions like this are something I'll always enjoy.

Finally Yang:

Yang's situation was something I was looking forward to and at the same time, I was nervous for it too. Considering she lost an arm, her emotions and thoughts are completely understandable and considering I've never been in a situation not even close to hers, her story and scenes truly showed me every emotion she was feeling and every thought on her mind; her expressions alone show that much. Seeing someone who's known for being so cheerful suddenly become depressed is... well, depressing. I know exactly how it feels to be in a depressed state and yet completely ignoring and denying an opportunity to help fix the problem. So, seeing Yang being given a robot arm but denying it was completely relatable and understandable to me. Yang finally overcoming her fears and accepting the robot arm was satisfying and seeing her grow back into her cheerful self made me cheerful as well.

Now let's talk about the main focus, Team RNJR:

Seeing Ruby interacting with the three members of team JNPR is already satisfying alone, so seeing them on an adventure together just makes it all the better. I really enjoyed the interactions and teamwork between these characters; really shows how strong their bonds are. Jaune is not only my favourite character in the series, but he's also the one who I relate to the most, mainly for his feelings of being a fish out of water. That final moment in Chapter 2 was extremely heartbreaking and I was broken into tears. Him talking to Ruby and looking up to her was really great and him being completely awesome with the new upgrade of his weapon was incredible.

Finally seeing Ren and Nora backstory was so satisfying and heartbreaking at the same time. Seeing how they met and how they got together but not together together was so enjoyable and sweet and really shows what kind of relationship these two have, their like siblings, but their love is so natural and cute. Ren's moment at the end will go down as one of my favourite moments of the whole show for obvious reasons.

Now, this Volume unfortunately wasn't as action-packed as previous volumes but I didn't really mind that. It's not like their was no action at all. Some would consider this Volume as complete filler and setup, but I personally find that to be completely false. This Volume did certainly set up some things, but in a good way. I found this Volume to be very similar to Chain of Memories in a way; it gave us hints of the villains on who they are and what they can do and it helped bridge the previous and upcoming instalments. The way things are set up left me very excited for Volume 5. Did this volume leave questions? Yes, but that's what keeps a story interesting; if things are left unanswered/unclear, then it keeps me watching, theorising and discussing with others about these mysteries; it creates a community. But it's not like this Volume answers nothing. Heck, it actually answered a lot of questions, such as Ozpin's state and Raven's morals. The villains were great. Tyrian is such a fun character and seeing him on screen both terrifies me and makes me smile.

Just as I said at the beginning, I heavily enjoyed this volume and it's left me looking forward for the future of RWBY. I give this Volume 9.5/10.

Oh wait, were you looking for something negative? Well, I only think of positive stuff when discussing things I really love and enjoy, such as RWBY or Kingdom Hearts.

As a whole I give volume 4 a 8/10. I´ll come up with more details thoughs sometime later this week (or the next), I´ll give you a general synopsis of my feelings with this volume though:

What I liked:

  1. Character Development
  2. Lore expansion

What I did not like:

  1. Meandering plot and development from the second half of the volume.
  2. Contrive/convinient resolution of some plot threads.

Well then, I caught up to Rwby a few days ago, and I have to say, Volume 4 was definitely a treat! The most surprising thing that I found from this volume was Ren and Nora's character development! I loved that we finally got to see how they met, and how Ren was so closed in terms of his feelings! But we definitely got to see him express said feelings much more during the course of this volume! Jaune is going through such a rough time now, with the loss of Pyrrha and all! My God, that scene with him training in the woods alone while hearing Pyrrha's recording still stands as one of the most emotionally breaking scenes of this whole volume! :')  Ruby was awesome as well, and you could tell that the situation at hand is getting to her, as she looks genuinely concerned with what's happening around them! Qrow, as always, is a major badass, and I loved that we finally got to see Raven get more screentime, after such a long time! X_X

Weiss's struggles in this volume were well portrayed. You can definitely see that she's changed from a snotty rich girl to a more open minded and compassionate person! Also, Klein is a badass butler! He's all the seven dwarves in just one body! :D Blake coming to terms with what's happened and her trying to separate herself from everyone else is an understandable situation, but it's good that her parents and Sun were there to encourage her that she doesn't have to shoulder her problems alone! That final step with her wanting to reclaim the White Fang left me excited in seeing how things will progress!  As for Yang, her struggle with the loss of her arm, and her depression over the situation was well done, and I loved that some father daughter moments were integrated between her and Taiyang! The character development there was definitely a plus, and I liked seeing Taiyang get more screentime!  Overall, this was a great volume!

OMG, and the villains! Salem and company are like Rwby's version of Organization XIII! All of them are sinister, yet they all have their distinct personalities! I wish we could've gotten more screentime from them!

The biggest draw of this whole volume is Oscar, though! He has Ozpin's soul inside him! Very interesting! :O

I can't wait for Volume 5! Hopefully we'll get more Rwby Chibi to entertain us while we wait for Volume 5 to arrive this Fall! :3

Yeah I'm going to go with the meh side of things too

Character development was pretty solid

And I liked seeing the girls separated, it feels more individual and gave the audience more chance to identify with the individual girl vs. the relationships between the characters

Aside from Ren and Nora who I felt got a solid backstory/relationship development and Ren's vengeance felt very resolved to me. Maybe that's just cause Renora is the best thing of this show, but I was a sucker for it.

It was also good to see more lore/fleshing out of the world.

But the action scenes were few and far between and not very special at that. The only one that had me like edge of my seat was Ruby Qrow and Tyrian. I think they need more action than this volume, but less than the oversaturation of action in volume 3.

The plot went nowhere. It was slow at best, filler at worst. And that's frustrating, because while yes, character development since a lot of arcs were in a bad place last time is good, we had such little plot everything begins to feel unneeded. What does the character development matter without the central conflict?

That's most of my thoughts. Also there was less Emerald and the Emerald we saw was cinder-senpai emerald which is the worst version of emerald. So y'know, not awesome lmao.

Well, now that the wait for Volume 5 has begun, I'm wondering how things will turn out once we get back into the swing of things? Will the conflict head to a crucial point, or will there be more stops along the way? One thing I can say is that team Rwby probably won't get back together next Volume.  Or, at the very least, not all of them! Blake is going to fight against the White Fang and try to reclaim it with Sun and her family, so she probably won't join Ruby and the others anytime soon, and I think Weiss is still in the process of finding herself, as she just recently mastered her summoning power! Yang is the only one who seems like she'll get to Ruby as soon as she can! I wonder if she'll encounter Raven again at some point? I want to see more interaction between them! :D

There were too few episodes to get a better grasp for the Volume. Sure, besides funny Sunny and a few of the first episodes, there weren't any really funny moments - which can be a good thing, considering what happened last Volume, but is really what RWBY was all about - character and charisma. Rather than developing and finding themselves, the Volume felt like it was getting from point A to point B. For RNJR, it was about getting from Ruby's home to Menagerie. For Yang, it was about getting from not having an arm to getting her strength back up. For Weiss, it was about going from doing what her father says to doing what she wants.

The only character arc that I felt there was any real development at all was Blake's. Blake had to come to terms with her shadow being the White Fang, at her doorstep wherever she goes. And rather than run away like she always has, she's working to change it. Sun and Ghira were really great at having those pep talks that got Blake's head straight. I love the dynamic between them, but I wish a more toned down, charming, and chill Sun was around for longer.

Let's not get started on the hate the fanbase has for some of these characters especially Jaune and Sun. All volume long, I heard shit about Sun being such a stalker, Sun being abusive, Sun totally eavesdropped on Ghira and Blake's conversation. But when Blake slaps him, when Kali eavesdrops, nobody gives a crap. "Oh, why didn't that cunt Jaune protect Pyrrah?" "NOW Jaune feels bad about what happened?" "What an idiot"

Imma make a meme about the biased fanbase one day.

Hate beyond, what I adored about the volume was the new lighting and expressions. Even though a lot of the fight scenes were sooooooo bad, I loved how they captured a bit of character (and memes) in them. Still crossing my fingers for a return of gunchucks!

No one talks about Oscar or Cinder much, but I feel like their parts in the story were absolutely unnecessary for this volume. Sure, RT should set up for the next volumes, but it just felt like their arcs were done half assed. Oscar literally left a barn and took a train all volume with about ten minutes of screen time. The only significant part was the fact that he got his cane back.

Ren and Nora's backstory was cliché, but it was a very nice touch away from what's happening.

This Volume was very meh for me through most of it stand out stuff were some of Weiss and mostly Blakes stuff.

Near the end Yang's stuff as well was solid but honestly, RNJR just felt meh to me.

The Fight Scenes were boring and not as hyped and thrilled like Volume 3's they felt like a huge downgrade.

Story wise it felt more like once again a calm before the storm.

Isn't the world suppose to be pretty freaked out Vale got attacked and all yet the only signs of the world caring happen to be in Atlas where we get signs of that. Villages and other places we saw just don't care at all.

No Paranoia nothing it really doesn't feel like Salem's end times are coming.

Eh maybe when Mistral get's screwed over.

Well everyone, I'm sure that Volume 5 will get more intense! We just have to wait and see for what's in store!  There's no doubt in my mind that Blake's battle with the White Fang won't be an easy one, and I'm sure Weiss has many more things to do to overcome herself! Ruby and the others are resting for now, but I'm sure trouble will come their way faster than fast! As for Yang, I'm sure she'll face her fair share of trouble along the way!

By next Volume, I'm sure the stakes will feel much more dire, as more Grimm overwhelm the world!  When Salem and her group makes their move, things will definitely grow dire quite fast!

Sweet, can't wait for the new volume.

As much as everyone hates this volume for being relatively calm, this was necessary. I'm thinking of this as a writer. How else could the creators of RWBY get across the point of character restructuring and everyone coming to terms with everything that happened? What else could these characters even do? They left so broken up and torn apart that adding more fighting scenes than the ones displayed wouldn't really make sense. If they just glazed over this, everyone's characters wouldn't be developed enough. These are real conflicts Blake, Yang, and Weiss had to go through, just about as big as the fighting things. Why devote less time to such sizable conflicts?

My biggest issue lies within Yang. The way they ended the volume with her makes me feel like she didn't learn a thing. Yang was supposed to be struggling with a crippling loss. I wanted her to learn a lesson struggle with the issue and to take her time with accepting her conflict. The writing makes it look as if she just shrugs it all off and continues being the way she is which is how she got herself in that situation in the first place. I know there was the whole conversation with Taiyang, but Yang's writing seems to shrug off any lesson within the volume.
