-So the arm isn't coming back; the obvious route of a mecha arm. /:

-BB shipping all over reddit, woo...

-Still sad to see them laying there, but in the open field is a bad idea. I assume Blake finally gave out at that spot.

-Ruby and Weiss are going to pull off a Nevermore, but I suspect it to fail. Just please don't have anything happen to them that involves losing a body part or RT is trying too hard to be dark. Also because my 2nd best girl already lost more than just a arm. (At least there will be some charcter development.)

Glad they left out Cinder vs Ozpin, or to be precise, didn't spoil this episode. That will be the most interesting event to see.

Prepare yourselves, for a 28 minute episode

We start on the fight between Ozpin and Cinder and Ozpin is holding his own.  Cut back Ruby finally catches up with her team and sees what happens to Yang then her and Weiss goes out to go find Phyrra and Juan.  Speaking of those two that's who we run into next and Phyrra is telling Juan to run as she is going to fight Cinder, who they see leave the school and OH MY GOD THEY KISS AWWWWW I squealed when that happen but it's so sad as she then pushes him in a locker to send him away :. Well some other stuff happens and we now get Phyrra vs. Cinder. who did fairly well but what do you expect to happen. Ruby shows up just in time....to see Cinder KILL Phyrra firetruckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk and holy shit she dose something amazing that really hurt the Wayvern Grimm. and then it goes to white and we hear Qrow talk to someone I'm guessing Ruby and Yangs Father.  Ruby is asleep in a bed and wakes up to her father yay he finally shows up and he's voiced by Burnie. and Qrow shows up to explain the power that Ruby has, her Silver Eyes. Ruby and Yang talk for a bit and Yang explains what happened to Blake and Weiss.  Seasons change and Juan and Ruby meet up to go to Haven with Rin and Nora.  Narration at the end by someone who isn't Cinder, doesn't sound like her but she has the same goal it seems. Oh and we see Weiss father. But then we see who is talking and god damn she is one big baddie and watching the credits we learn that her name is Salem. The music at the end is really amazing as well it's so sweet and quit fitting.  This is a really long episode and damn it had a lot of twist and turns and just amazing I really can't wait for the next Volume now that the End of the Beginning has ended things are gonna pick up for sure.  All and all it was a good Volume.....oh wait you thought it was over once the credits hit? boy are you mistaken have you learned nothing from the other two Volumes their is a little something at the end of it as well but I won't talk about that ;)

Ozpin fights well for an old guy, that was pretty epic. Hope hes still alive.

THEY KISSED! When ever i imagined their first kiss i always thought Pyyrha would start it. And she did.

Pyyrha is dead? No. No No No No No No No No No. NOOOO.

Burnie voices Tai yang. That makes alot of sense actually.

Silver eyes for the win

Damnit Blake.

Damnit yang.

Team RJRN... Team JRRN? Ahh F it. RWBY Jaune Ren and Nora.

Lady how the hell are your eyes black and red OWO. Were one of your parents a Grimm? Truly, thiers was a love that could never be. Id see that movie..... What was i talking about? Oh right creepy lady. Joking aside. Credits say her name is Salem, like the Salem witch trails? If shes a witch and knows Ozpin then im gonna guess shes based off the wicked witch of the west. Someone get a bucket of water.

Qrow turned into a crow! Thats firetrucking awesome.

This made me feel things man. But Pyyrha is dead so im going to go cry myself to sleep. Loved this volume, love this show, I miss you Monty. RWBY forever

So my cousin just pointed out to me that the first voices we have ever heard in RWBY as a series were those of conversation between Ozpin and Salem

Beginning of Episode 1 was Salem and Ozpin talking, end of Episode 12 was Salem reiterating, then taunting Ozpin.

Pyrrha isn't dead. We don't find Ozpin's body either. I theorize that the fading to ash was Cinder's form of transporting - why? Easy. Pyrrha was clearly the Fall Maiden. You don't kill off your backup. If Pyrrha dies then who's the fall Maiden? Salem wouldn't leave that to chance. If Cinder dies she'll know where the power will go next, and then she'll tear it from her like they did Amber.

As if Miles and Kerry are that evil to ruin the ONLY OTP TO ACTUALLY BECOME OTP.

I also called it, that the birds were Qrow's semblence.

And Turquoise Jeep...lol I knew my friend was crazy but that name is gold.

Normally, I wouldn't do something like this, but I just watched the finale and I need to talk about it or I'll explode. I'll be spoling everything, so if you haven't seen the final episode yet, wait until it comes out tommorow. If you don't follow RWBY and don't care, then by all means, keep reading. Hopefully my rambling nonsense will prove at least somewhat amusing.

Pyrrha's Death: Not entirely unexpected, but I honestly wouldn't have bet on it happening, at least not in this volume. I'll admit, after last week's episode, I was sure Pyrrha had dodged the metaphorical arrow, but now I don't know what to believe anymore. In retrospect I should have seen this coming, since all the signs were pointing towards Arkos becoming official, and unfortunately there's no way this series could have handled a romantic sub-plot with all of the other crap it has to sort through. No More Beacon: This is what surprised me the most; the series seems to be abandoning Beacon. This was a ballsy move, since the entire show was basically founded on the Magical High School premise (which is probably what made it so popular in the first place). This was bound to happen eventually considering how much world-building we've been fed the last 3 years, but school is out forever??? And so soon? I'll admit, I'm not sure how I feel about this. RUBY RAGE: Honestly the last person I expected to get this kind of power up. Yang? Most definitely. Jaune? Maybe. But Ruby never seemed like the person to ever have a "breaking point" like that. The entire point of her character seemed to be that she was pure and incorruptible, no matter what the world threw at her. But, no, she's succumbed to the usual "berserk trigger" troupe. I'm not sure where the series will go with this, but I have faith the writers know what they're doing. Everything is Terrible: Understatement of the century. After this, it's looking like the next volume will be focused mostly on just cleaning up the huge mess this volume left behind. Yang is traumatized, Blake's being mysterious as ever, Weiss is on the other side of the planet, and Ruby has joined an entirely new team. Did I miss something? How is it that the series advanced further in 5 episodes than it did in the last two volumes combined? Salem: I've been expecting something like this since the first episode aired, and it looks like said episode's mysterious opening dialogue finally has an explanation. Even though we only had about a minute with her, we can glean a surprising amount of subtext from what little information we DO have. First off, her name. Pretty obviously draws inspiration from the "Salem Witch Trials", so I'm guessing she's some kind of Witch hunter or more likely a Witch herself. And if she is a Witch, then her very apparent relationship to Ozpin seems to imply that he's the Wizard who gave the Maidens their powers in the first place. But instead of bestowing her powers upon the humans and trusting them like Ozpin, she continued to shut herself off from the world and eventually became disillusioned with humanity. And now she, for whatever reason, needs Ozpin's power back, which is why she's sent Cinder to collect it (their relationship seems all but confirmed now).Second, her appearance. Her red eyes and pale face seem to invoke the image of the Grimm, so I'm guessing she has some way to control them. Harken back to the strange scene in the tower, where Cinder seems to be the communicating with the Dragon Grimm, as though it can understand her. Perhaps Salem has the power to see through the eyes of the Grimm? Who knows. On top of that, her white hair and smooth face draw a lot of similarities to Ozpin, so perhaps they're related somehow. Some people have noted that she looks very similar to the original Winter maiden, but if that's true I can't see her as the final villain. The biggest threat will have to be something that transcends the Maidens and their power, because as they are right now they don't seem powerful enough to be end-game material. Expectations for Volume 4: I don't think we'll be seeing Salem in any significant capacity come volume 4. I expect the main villain of that arc to be either Emerald or Mercury, as they're both probably wanted criminals at this point, and Cinder seems too stronk for anyone to deal with at the moment. It seems the next volume will be split into two parts: Ruby's team in Haven investigating Cinder (where we'll hopefully learn more of her backstory), and the other members of ex-team RWBY back in Vale struggling to pull their lives back together. As for beyond volume 4, I obviously can't predict the future. However, this episode pretty much confirmed two things for me: -Jaune will be the one to take out Cinder, and the rest of the series will focus on him growing strong enough to do so. As it stands, he no longer has a reason to be just a joke character. He's lost Pyrrha, the only person who ever truly believed in him, the first person he really loved. If this isn't enough motivation for him to bulk up and take Cinder head on, then his time will probably never come. I honestly don't care what they do with his character, I won't be able to ever take him seriously again if they miss this opportunity. -Raven will most likely appear next volume to help Yang out of her funk. As it stands, she's the one Yang has the most history with. Yang will obviously be getting a new arm, but there's still no telling whether or not it will be mechanical. We know that Dust can be infused with the human body, perhaps it can be used to create brand new limbs? Or maybe Jeebus will descend from the heavens and give her a new arm. As of right now, it really doesn't matter.

That's about everything that's on my mind. If you read it, I hope you enjoyed my take. I'll tell you, the hype is real; waiting another year is going to be absolute torture.

Also, Qrow is a firetrucking animorph. Biggest. Plot twist. Ever.

OBJECTION!

You say Ruby seemed so pure and uncorruptible - She is. My theory is that the power she posesses is either the power of the Summer Maiden (Her mother the old one) and she was passed the power at a young age, and no one knew where said maiden was. Plus, if you take a good look...she doesn't go berserk for any rage reason. it's her pure, untamed sorrow. She just saw her friend "die" and now...now she's so grief-stricken. Yang lost her arm, Blake is hurt, now Pyrrha? I think this was the beginning of Ruby's awakening. you see, the entire show was talking about one thing - a pure, innocent soul. The opening of Season 1, Salem's monologue at the end. I think that the power Ruby possesses is either the Summer Maiden, or a special power unique to those with Silver Eyes.

A power she unlocked during her pure, heart-filled sorrow.

I think in her purity, was where the power to freeze a GRIMM WYVERN MOTHER and scare CINDER FALL comes from.

A smaller...more honest soul.

Also Pyrrha's not dead that totally was Cinder sending her to wherever Ozpin is because no Ozpin body, just cane. Totally not dead and Cinder did it knowing Ruby was almost there and wanted everyone to think she was dead.

I call it here, and now.

But that would completely devalue the ending of this volume. What point was there in having Pyrrha just disappear? I don't think she had any of the Fall Maiden's power (That all went to Cinder), so there shouldn't have been any reason to keep her alive. On top of that, I think she's pretty much gotten as much character development as she could hope for. Bringing her back to try and make her relevant again would just feel forced.

ON TOP OF THAT, Cinder is given much more presence as a villain if she really did kill Pyrrha. Jaune and his team would have a legitimate reason to grow stronger and develop as characters. As cruel as it sounds, there's really only positives to Pyrrha being dead for good.

I know we don't have a body, but Cinder has some crazy fire powers now its not too hard to believe that she could turn someone to ash

OMG I WATCHED THE FINALE LAST NIGHT AND I'M STILL FREAKING OUT!

A few thoughts:FREAKING OZPIN FIGHTING CINDER!!!!! GOSH! I hope we see more of that fight scene in the future, through a flashback or something. But that's not the most surprising thing that happened...Pyrrha is dead T.T I seriously can't believe it. I thought Ruby would get there in time. I'm so annoyed that she died like this because I know that if Ruby and Weiss had gotten there in time, Cinder would've been defeated since she had a hard time fighting Pyrrha by herself. Now is Pyrrha really dead? I do think her essence/aura survived within Cinder, but her body is gone for good. Remember how Cinder was like "Add her to the list" when she heard about Pyrrha's semblance...maybe she wanted to absorb her power. Moving on, RUBY'S SUPERPOWERS! YES! I honestly thought she was the winter maiden for a moment...yup, WINTER. I mean it makes sense, her eyes were kind of like the maidens but white and when you think about it...her mother always wore white, so she could've been the previous maiden...She also froze the dragon and maybe Cinder too so...it made sense. But nope, she's a silver-eyed superhero :) I can't wait to learn more about that. And now, let's move on to SALEM! She's so scary...LOL. When she started talking I was like "Oh the little storytelling voice is back to give us hope" and then she started talking about snuffing out humanity and I was like "Oh shxt". I think she might be half grimm. Her face literally looks like a grimm mask! And she talks about mankind as if she wasn't a part of it. Btw, isn't it funny that Qrow is a crow...maybe Raven is a raven too :3Predictions for Volume 4:-Blake goes on a 'White Fang' killing spree, crosses path with "RNJR" along the way. Ruby tries to convince her to come with them or something-Weiss...I don't know what Weiss is going to do. Can't she just leave her house or something...-Yang is depressed and everything until...boom! Raven comes home for her daughter.-Yang gets a robot arm-Ruby learns more about her powers, finds Adam's base in Mistral-Salem doesn't come back 'til volume 5...lol-Team RWBY reunites by the end of the volume-The "revolution" Salem is planning is finally revealed-We discover who the winter maiden is

In my opinion, Ruby going berserk was justified. We have to realize that the last 4 episodes all took place on the same day! In one day, Ruby saw Penny die, she was betrayed by Emerald, she saw her sister lose an arm, a whole city being destroyed, her friend stabbed and then she sees Pyrrha die. Even the purest of souls couldn't handle that. It was a traumatizing experience for her.

BTW, let me just say that Salem is going to be an amazing villain. All the villains are amazing. The way they study the heros STRENGTHS to bring them down really amazes me! Adam used Yang's anger and strength to hurt her, Emerald used Pyrrha's power to cause chaos...they planned everything perfectly. Except for Ruby going crazy and stuff x)

Am I the only who thought that this was an older version of Jaune?

-Weiss is gone

Way to get rid of my no. 1 favorite character. I need to find another favorite character for Volume 4 since she probably won't have much screen time.

-Blake is gone

She barely had any screen time this entire Volume...I'm not sure how to feel about her leaving too. Then again, she's not on the other side of the world so she might have more screen time in Volume 4.

-Heartbroken Yang

Get that Automail already!

-Team RJNR

This somehow makes Pyrrha's loss even worse.

-Narrating

Yay, something to give us hope after all that!

"To snuff it out"

:O

WHAT!?

Stop talking! Stop talking!

-Salem

Who?

What?

-Qrow is a crow

Plot twist hidden in plain sight. Well-Played.

I can't wait for Volume 4!

Which we'll probably get in a year or so.

NO!

NO!

NOOOOOO!

Pyrrha!!! :

My second most favorite character just...Dead!?

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN!?

I was ready for Ozpin's death but NOT this.

And it happened right after Arkos became official. >.>

Saddest episode for me. >.<

Apart from that let's see...

-Ozpin VS Cinder

Epic, but we didn't get to see much. :/

-Pyrrha and Jaune kiss

And I thought kisses never happened in animated series. :O

-Pyrrha VS Cinder

KICK HER EVIL BUTT! >:(

-Pyrrha gets killed

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

-Silver Eyes Ex Machina

Wow...That happened!

I think Volume will start this fall, they did say they were trying to make the wait between volumes shorter.

Since Qrow is a crow...does that mean that Raven is, you know, a raven? (hereditary semblance???) That would make sense with the scene where Yang is looking out her window and sees a RAVEN! And if Raven has been looking after Yang as a raven, that would make her a slightly better mother.

I miss Firaga actually talking sense, he had excellent points and seeing the incredible lack of criticism here now is upsetting.

This volume overall was easily the weakest of the three. The build-up was poor, there was an incredible lack of character development, fight scenes were so abundant that they became less like treats and more just convenient ways to get out of writing any kind of substance.

I'm hoping that next time we actually get a decent story and character development. This one relied far too much on shock value, a random piece of huge information that they never alluded to before, and the aforementioned action. I really hope that they were just using this volume as kind of a base so that next volume we do get the character development that they were doing well with before.

WOAHWOAHWAOH HOLD THE PHONE, WHO IS THIS TOKYO GHOUL WANNABE? Posted Image

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one thinking about TG when I first saw her.

I'm going to comment on the best/important parts of the final episode for this volume. Sike! Going through all of it.

  • Ozpin vs. Cinder fight was awesome! Not too surprised his semblance had to do with time.
  • Jaune+Pyrrha ship has sailed... and aw shit, it's going to sink isn't it?
  • Well Ozpin is gone. It doesn't look like he got killed off. What the heck is going on here?
  • Pyrrha vs. Cinder is a go and Pyrrha was doing so well against her. She even had an advantage with all the metal at her disposal, but Cinder being a maiden nullified that.
  • Cinder able to communicate with grimm? Maybe through her feelings, she's able to do this. (Will mention more on this later.)
  • The ship has sunken. Pyrrha got shot the same way Amber did (which is a nice touch), ending their lives. The disintegrating is questionable, but I feel like either she's dead for good or she will be alive in spirit? Damnit she's so dead. >_<
  • Ruby had enough of your shit Cinder pain and suffering and then...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvQpzgjdkj8

The silver eyes come into play. Now what was it? I feel as if it froze time in that area or she pulled off a Extreme Jihad, like this:

Oh goodness, reason #99 why Ruby is best girl.

Back on what she did, Qrow did say it did a number on Kevin (Dragon Grimm), but doesn't say anything about Cinder. It must have hurt her badly that she left, but trying to head back to her master; Salem or went to find Merc and Em. (Speaking of which, what the firetruck became of them?) Also Pyrrha is again implied dead.

  • Ruby is safe (YAY), Weiss was kidnapped taken by her father (called it, and it's not really just for protection measures), Blake ran off (guilt and "your dead to me Adam" stuff), and Yang is emotionally destroyed. How could she not? She got the most shit in this volume and Blake running off didn't help.)
  • A raven outside Yang's window. Neat. Also that fallen leaf. Foreshadowing?
  • Team Mighty Morphing Power RNJR is off to the place that slips my tongue to find answers.
  • Qrow has Ozpin's cane. Interesting...
  • And Qrow is an animorph. Wait, that means Raven... OHH clever RT, clever. It's all making sense. That also means Raven must have been watching Qrow fighting Winter, and them keep in touch. Except what was be the point of the portal Raven did after she saved Yang? Maybe she just wanted to hide that extra ability.
  • Salem. Not going to lie, but when I saw her back I thought it was Summer Rose corrupted. I was at first "awe shit this better not be a plot twist." Nope, she looks too old to be her. Also she's got dat grimm hybrid look going on. (Them eyes) This is pretty cool and I always thought RT would eventually have a human/grimm hybrid. That, or she's a ghoul. (Remnant is screwed.)
  • Cinder communicating with Kevin, Salem must have taught this to her or something. Seeing Salem have those grimm eyes, she probably can control grimm at will. This would further push my excitement for a hybrid.
  • I'm also on the though of a hybrid because Salem being a witch, related to yada yada, she could have experimented on herself. That or go the simple route of witchcraft that controls grimm. *Shrugs*

Overall, a crazy yet calm way to close off the first arc of RWBY. I honestly wished this dark af tone was place later on, but this did take the "end of the beginning" seriously. I also feel like it shouldn't have shifted so fast if they wanted it to end like this. It practically took a 180. It's weird saying that as I've watched some gruesome shit (Tokyo ghoul for example), but then again it already sets you up on episode 1. I still thinking it was rushed and it honestly didn't need so much fatalities. I'm still bother by Yang being disarmed. I was expecting Merc to break her leg. About the maidens, I will agree that it was another rushed idea as well but at least it set up the plot/Cinder's objective which RWBY needed so badly.

Other than all of these cons(?), this first arc sets up for so much room for the next arc and I am so ready for volume 4. *Hibernates for late Fall 2016*

Holy ships.

What did I just see?

It... It just seems to be the case that many times lots entertainment these days is geared towards a "mature audience". Where's the FFVII, where you went through all this crazy unbelievable crap before you actually buckled down into the main story? Where's the RWBY Volumes 1 & 2, where you could combine serious plot with fun and lovable characters? Where's the entertainment in entertainment?

RWBY Volume 3 started out cheerful. Yay, Vytal festival! And it was excellent at mixing that atmosphere in with the introduction of Qrow and the progressing plot of the baddies. So far so good. But this doesn't become some Sonic and Eggman story where the heroes stop the baddies little acts as they come back for more anymore. And the drama... it's too... serious. I agree with everyone here when they say the maidens' plot was a terribly tacked-on way to provide plot, given that they never alluded to such a thing... well, except for "silver eyes".

Semblances are all over the place. What is Ozpin's power again? Super-speed, generating force field shadow clone whaaaaaaat? Semblances are, in my mind at least, a power of "balance", as shown in Volume I. The semblances are supposed to be part of what makes these "teams" worth making, as their semblances compliment each other. Cinder is understandable, since she took Summer's power (but even then... isn't her semblance fire? Why is she able to conjure up a bow and arrow again?), but... ugh, the semblances post-tournament are just stupid.

Don't get me wrong - I still love RWBY because it's characters are worth watching for (CURSES! Where's the action for Sun?! He's backwater material now!) but all of the fatalities from Penny to Torchwick to Pyrrha... You just gotta ask yourself "WHY?!" It just wasn't the right show or atmosphere to have it in.

The ending, however, was fitting. It's similar to Volume I in which it sets up a new baddy by showing them at the end (Or is that another one of Cinder's inexplicable powers?), albeit with all the death that happened, it barely felt so.

Overall, not very happy with post-Vytal Tournament and not happy with the insanely dark twist that RWBY is victim to.
