The episode was okay, I didn't like the black screens thing. Firaga, are you saying that Cinder can disguise herself as anyone because of Emerald? Because, if you are, it has been implied that Emerald's power is limited when she says she gets headaches. So Cinder is not invicible. Btw, to everyone saying Amber attacking Emerald was out of character, well we don't really know much about her character yet. Remember that the Maidens aren't the Princesses of Heart. They don't always have the best intentions and they're not perfect. Anyone could be a Maiden.

My thoughts about the episode:

-I like the dark tone but I hope it doesn't mean there won't be fun moments anymore

-I'm mad we didn't learn anything about Cinder's plan. Seriously why does she need Grimm creatures to attack everyone?

-Umm...what happened to Raven?

-That glove Cinder wears...Does it contain a Grimm? And what the heck is Cinder's semblance?! I thought for a moment that she had control over, you know, cinder but then she went speedy gonzales on me and I was like..."Is she like RWBY"?

-Did Merc kill his dad?

-Good overall, but this episode made me understand what Firaga and a bunch of people were saying last week...The story progression is just...weird.

Theory!

-THE OLD MAN! What if he's the big boss and he wants the powers he gave the Maidens back? Or what if he's Ozpin?!

No, I'm saying she can because the plot allows her to. It has nothing to do with Emerald. Cinder's disguises aren't even that well designed, she literally just puts on a different outfit.

Their "origin" portrays them as wise entities who promote kindness to the world. That pretty much implies that they should be without malice, or at the very least not kick somebody when they're down. Also, in general, they should be able to make rational decisions, which Amber did not. She explicitly tried to strike Ember while she was down instead of escaping to safety. The latter decision would have not only keep in line with the core description of the Maidens but it would also ensure a more logical decision for herself rather than letting her guard down and letting Cinder stab her from behind and take away her power. After all, if these Maidens know about how their powers work, it would be logical to keep things like that from happening to them.

Yeah but Amber isn't the original Fall Maiden, the characteristics of the Maiden from the fairy tale don't necessarily apply to her. BTW, here's a little theory of mine...Remember when Pyrrha fought Mercury in Volume 2, she was able to move his legs around however she wanted. She can feel metal so she must have felt his robot legs. So IF Pyrrha knows about Mercury's legs, she might be able to defend Yang!

That would still need be a qualification for choosing Maidens after the previous ones need replacements because choosing idiots or people who do headstrong things like Amber did would be a bad idea. After all, Pyrrha is competent. Mostly.

Why does that need to be a qualification? It was never stated that you needed to be all nice and/or competent to get this power.

Exactly, if the Maiden thinks of someone she hated before dying..then that's the person who gets the power.

That makes zero sense.

This "Maiden" thing is supposedly this universe's most powerful concentration of power, so much there is a "brotherhood" created by Ozpin for the sole purpose of protecting them, as well as the people of Remnant, knowing that the power could fall into the wrong hands.

I'm pretty sure that keeping track of who the powers are given to so that none of them try to use them for evil would be a big priority. And again, if the Maidens were aware of their power, they would not be stupid enough to allow a person they know is evil to enter their thoughts before death.

Exactly, which is why it probably doesn't happen. But that doesn't mean the person they think of is perfect and super duper compassionate and loving.

Maybe, maybe not. Your forgetting thou that maidens can be chosen at random if the last person in their thoughts doesn't qualify. ( people who dont qualify being males or people too old) Amber could have been chosen at random. Any besides.... Peoples last thoughts before death are a deeply personal thing. I doubt anyone could control who they truly think about in their last moments

I'm not saying they have to Mary Sues. I'm saying they have to be right for the responsibility of having that much power, because again, it's just logical and there are supposedly people who want to take the power and use it for evil means.

But that's not how the lore explains it. It might not be logical to you, but according to the lore, all you need to be a Maiden is to be young and be a girl. Anyway, all I'm saying is Amber saw a chance to get rid of a problem, to get rid of a form of evil and she took it. If she'd ran away, they simply would've found her again. Maybe she knew that. It's not because she's a Maiden that her actions were out of character.

Something to keep in mind is that Amber has probably been attacked plenty of times before because of her power. She was nice enough to stop for a crying child but real quick to pull out her weapon the moment she noticed something strange (instead of standing there looking cute and confused). Amber's probably at the point where she knows she'll have to cut down people who want her power to keep the world safe.

It was silly of Amber to not try to escape while she still had the strength to, especially when more opponents kept popping out of nowhere and weren't intimidated by her power, but finishing Cinder's group off while she's on her last leg isn't a bad choice. They were strong enough to injure her that much and would very likely sneak attack her again (maybe with even greater numbers) if she let them live.

The brotherhood is supposed to protect the maidens. If they're not protecting the maidens and the power they hold, they're doing their job wrong. Going against this would include allowing the power to transfer to someone who does not deserve it.

And no, I'm still not buying any justification for Amber's actions, personality or not, because a) knowing this show, she's not going to get a full fledged personality anyway and b) prioritizing survival is more important in that scenario. She won, and everybody was down. The logical thing was to run away, get in contact with the brotherhood, and have Qrow go and hunt them down or something. But she didn't, and given the responsibilities/powers of a Maiden, that's just flat-out wrong.

If she knows that people want her power, why is she even traveling alone on a random horse? Why didn't she find the idea of a little girl in the middle of nowhere suspicious? Why did Qrow only show up at the last minute when Amber was already dead in the water? Shouldn't he have been at her side? Shouldn't she only travel when she has protection? Where were the other Maidens anyway, shouldn't they be together in a group?

See, going deeper into this is just providing more reasons to why this is kinda bullshit. Regardless of how she got killed, Amber got killed because she was stupid and the brotherhood by extension were being stupid. Plain and simple.

When you have concepts like this "Maiden" idea, you need to provide logical means as to keeping them in good condition so that when they do fail for the plot, it doesn't come out feeling forced and like everybody involved lost their freaking brains.

I didn't feel like it was forced but I guess everyone has a different perspective.

I agree with that. Amber travelling alone isn't so bad but it's super awkward that Qrow was somehow informed enough to know where she is, that she's in danger and was close enough to stop Cinder before Amber completely died but wasn't close enough to reach there during the fight. It's hard to say if Amber even knows Ozpin's brotherhood but Qrow should've been a lot closer to Amber since he clearly was keeping track of her.

I was really surprised Qrow was even involved in this given that when Mercury spoke of Qrow, Cinder said "they have no idea who we are". Sure, Emerald or Cinder cast some illusion or something at the end but Qrow still managed to get close enough before they noticed him and would have seen their general traits.

Agreed! Did anybody else think of Avatar when Amber started fighting? Wind based attacks with a stick, Eyes glow when she powers up. I instantly thought of the Avatar State x)

Yeah, I thought of that too. Even though I'm not into super hero stuff, Storm from X-Men immediately came to mind as well. xD

Well, after Qrow swung his scythe towards Emerald and Mercury, he literally only had a few milliseconds to look at their faces and while Cinder was teleporting away, her face was all fuzzy (therefore hiding her face). So, it's easy for anyone to forget any traits that might have caught in those few milliseconds.

While he was running towards them and when he attacked he would see general things like hair color, skin color, and maybe their faces. Plus their new outfits are pretty similar and Mercury immediately recognized Qrow.

I'm not saying that Qrow should have definitely remembered and recognized them but that Cinder's confidence that "they have no idea who we are" was weird since in the heat of that moment she can't say for sure how much Qrow saw.

Pls dun cri Yang. >_<

I hope whatever Yang's mother told her be worth the trouble keeping it a secret as she never said anything till now. (Desperate times call for desperate measures-type of thing?)

Oh man, the BlakexYang shippers are gonna get the feels, I can tell. xD

All jokes aside, my heart actually clenched when I saw Yang crying. >_<
