Most overrated Final Fantasy?

Recommended Posts

Hm, I think 8 is overrated, in some ways. Yes, it has great gameplay and music, but it also had an awful storyline. Good thing 9, 10, and 12 had better storylines.

I don't think in terms of overrated. If you enjoy a game that's all that matters. A lot of people tend to enjoy VII and VIII. Why is that considered overrated?

I definitely agree with Xaon here. I haven't played all Final Fantasies, though I can't really say any of them are overrated. A lot of hype surrounds Final Fantasy VII, but, after completing it, I enjoyed it very much and can't really blame those who rave about it. Not every FF game is for everyone, so everyone's going to have different opinions on what overrated is depending on their personal liking of the game. Just because someone hated the beginning of FFVII they'll say "it's overrated" because they personally couldn't get into it. I also think one must play a game all the way through in order to determine whether it's overrated or not. A lot of games have poor beginnings, but the middle of the game more than makes up for it.

And finally, after saying all of that, I personally don't think any Final Fantasy is overrated. They're all just awesome, and part of what makes them so is that there's something out there for everyone.

Kirux recommended FF8 to me, but when I got it on my PSP, the battle system screwed me over, so I said "firetruck this" and deleted it. I'm more partial to X, XII, VII, and XIII, and then Crystal Chronicles because it felt more like a JRPG. But the fact that you basically have to be level 99 for the final boss in FF7 means grinding is going to be a bitch for me.

I'd say FFXII is underrated. People really don't understand politics the way XII presented them. I know I didn't until my third playthrough, but that's besides the point.

I've only played one, but from reading reviews and message boards (i'm not actually sure if overrated would be the world I used) but FF XIII-2 was a huge disappointment to people (considering it's more recent I suppose people assumed there would be mentally orgasmic graphics and game play).

Speaking of which, is ALL Final Fantasy's turn based fighting or was that just the one I played? I put off investing in other games (rather just reading the storyline of some online) of the series 'cause I don't like that sort of game play.

Why would people argue about what is the most overrated game. Why to care if people overrate or underrate game? Just give your own opnion and go with it and don't care about others. And complaining generally about something being over rated: It sounds that you can't take it that people happen to like something that you don't, and because they probably don't like your favourite so much . Also people tend to say that FF VII is completely over rated, well it gets praises all the time and some fans go over board, but I don't think it's bad game. It's actually pretty good game, I can see why people like it.

I don't know. Because they all seem to have their haters and supporters. Guess Final Fantasy VII ? I like it but it's not the best Final Fantasy ever made. Cloud is not the best hero, Sephiroth is not the best villain ever in a Final Fantasy game.

All of them. But seriously, ask if any popular game/show/book/penguin/etc is overrated, and I'll guarantee you you'll see a slew of people harping on about how so-and-so is undeserving of its fame, that it's not as good as people think, and you and the people who agree with you are the only ones who can see it while the rest are just mindless fanboys. As VII is the most popular FF, it's obviously the most overrated FF getting in the way of FF(your favorite). Because obviously, "overrated" is a legitimate critique of a piece of work and not its fanbase.

X is pretty overrated. Pathetic if you ask me.

Bad script, bad characters, bad story, bad battle system.........

Only good thing was the graphics.

I think it is pretty much known VII is my favorite and I hate X. X is terrible.

A poll said X's ending was sadder than Crisis Core.

Zack was shot to death, murdered, mutilated.

Tidus evaporated or some shit. Yuna waited to last minute to say what she felt and he was almost gone.

Yuna and Tidus are pretty shitty characters if you ask me.

Sorry for the rant.

Mmmm

I think the VII, VIII and the XIII, aren't worth of their insane popularity

The VII is a great game, but I'm tired of Cloud ( but I love you Zack!), The VIII is fun ( I had fun with the junction system) but let's face it, it has a terrible story (but not you Laguna), and the XIII has great graphics and fun gameplay, but the characters I just can't stand them (exept you Hope, I like you)

Final Fantasies I-X are all turn-based. Some of the later games have a slightly different combat style. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII has a menu that you choose from (kind of reminds me of Kingdom Hearts 1 in a way), but you get to move around the battlefield and hit the X button to attack, so it's basically like an open-field battle. Another that's similar to this method is Final Fantasy XII, and I believe XIII as well. I can't say for sure on XIII, though, since I've yet to see it in person.

Overrated? FFVII. It was good, but not anywhere close to the hype would lead you to believe.

And yes, I've played it a few times through. I like it, but I just can't bring myself to love it. (like I love X and XIII)
