Is Pixar in KH a good idea?

Recommended Posts

In Pixar's lineup, the only films I imagine being able to survive the KH treatment is The Incredibles, Monsters Inc., and Brave. None of the other films (except maybe WALL-E and maybe Cars, but I haven't seen them yet) really seem appropriate enough to fit into Kingdom Hearts's mythology.

I don't think it'd work because let's take, for instance, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and A Bug's Life. If Sora and co. were to interact with the characters of those films and involve themselves in their plots, then they'd have to scale down to the size of, respectively, a toy, fish, and a bug. Ask yourself, why would the Heartless or [insert threat here] be so small, or otherwise involve themselves with those characters when they're alongside normal humans the Heartless or whatever could go after instead? And if Sora and co. retained their forms, why and especially how would the Pixar characters be able to help them at all?

All the Disney worlds presented thus far have gimmicks in the forms of wizards, genies, knights and princesses, witches, faeries, mermaids, aliens, ghouls, flying ageless boys, pirates, and all manner of talking animals. Pixar's gimmicks? Living toys. Talking fish and insects. Tiny trash robots. Chefs and the rodents who control them. A house running on balloon power. Sure, many Disney characters receive power upgrades in KH continuity so they can keep up with Sora, but can you imagine Woody and Buzz going through the same treatment? Why couldn't Marlin just Blizzaga that barracuda away from his eggs? Are Remy and Linguini gonna bash the enemies over the head with a skillet? Can you imagine cute little WALL-E involved in the heat of battle?

And even if those characters don't or can't join you in the fray, again I ask, what kind of threat would involve themselves with most of Pixar's characters? What do their settings have to offer for an action-packed story like Kingdom Hearts? Why go after French chefs and traveling old men and ants and clown fish? The point is that, with the exceptions of the films listed at the beginning of this long-ass post, Pixar's films just don't lend themselves to Kingdom Hearts's brand of action. But y'know what I'd wanna see? Sora teaming up with Mr. Incredible to take down that Omnidroid. Mr. Waternoose could use a good whacking over the head with a keyblade after what he did, and Brave's setting is just plain beautiful.

I see nothing bad with getting turned into a toy and I personally think that Toy Story is the only world they could do well. Then again I'll always be biased when Toy Story is involved because it is a great film series.

Size has nothing to do with it either. Remember in Birth by Sleep when you were Ventus and you were shrunk down to the size of a mouse and you had to fight all the Unversed? There is no rule that they have to stay normal height.

Bug's Life would be interesting but only if it was done right.

I'd love to see Toy Story, too, but I still don't see how it'd work in a continuity like Kingdom Hearts. Ventus and Aqua being shrunk was a matter of circumstance, and was only one part of the actions of that world as a whole. The main conflict was with Cinderella, who is normal size, and being small was only an incidental part of that. Toy Story revolves around small characters. Why would the monster or threat involve themselves with toys when there are normal-sized humans to choose from? Same thing with A Bug's Life, really.

In BbS the Unversed were shrunken down to the size of rodents in Castle of Dreams for no other reason than to give Aqua (for a small part of the time) and Ven something to fight but I know what you're saying. Basically Disney movies are more "magical" and Pixar isn't. Even in low action movies like Snow White it still seemed to make sense when implemented in KH because of the simple fact of magic. Even though Pixar and Disney are closely related Disney has that magical element that Pixar lacks (not in a bad way) that may make it a little more difficult for the latter to be integrated but I don't think it can't be done.

Toy Story I could never imagine being it's own world for instance but I could see it being a sub world akin to Winnie the Pooh. Or just summons as was intended in KH2. And yeah, I kinda would like to see Sora and co turned into toys, via magic, to solve some problem the TS characters are having.

Hard to say, for the reasons you mentioned; there are many pixar and disney films that are awesome, but just might not work in a Kingdom Hearts setting. I could see perhaps Toy Story...and perhaps Bug's Life, there's pretty clear "good-vs-evil" there...but like you said, for many worlds, for it to fit, there has to be more of the supernatural in it. Pixar films tend to be more real :P it doesn't make either of them better, just different.

And honestly in movies like Finding Nemo what would the story be I mean you suddenly join Marlin in his search for his son Nemo that makes no sense. And Finding Nemo is like my favorite movie ever.

What we really need to talk about is Miyazaki films...lol no.

If you are a TL;DR type person, I basically will say, there are more classic Disney worlds to explore and old worlds to revisit.

It will take the magical feeling of Disney from KH away. It would not fit.

Pixar does have the pure feel like Disney has. Plus there are more Disney worlds that we haven't seen or visited.

I'd rather see Final Fantasy worlds and Shibuya than Pixar worlds.

In KH3, there will be new worlds that could be from movies such as Pocahontas, a Goofy Movie, Princess and the Frog and part 2 or more for worlds like Land of Dragons, Atlantica, Port Royal, Pride Lands, Beast's Castle, and Olympus Coliseum. Plus the ones in BBS can be revisited to because there are PoH there.

Didn't Ven already do that in BBS.

ABSO-FREKIN-LUTELY.

Some movies like Monsters Inc. & Brave would thrive as worlds in KH.

I mean, Tron was a movie with real people in it. But did that stop it from being in KH? Nope. So Pixar worlds aren't that far fetched tbh

come on. why wouldn't going to final fantasy based worlds be fun?

I think it was mentioned once that there would be no FF worlds in KH (don't quote me on that) but the point of the FF characters in KH is that their cameos living in a separate continuity from the FF series. All the FF chracters in KH either originate from original KH worlds or Disney worlds. Going to FF worlds sort of breaks the continuity KH setup it self and the idea that they're AU versions of themselves.

because FF has like 70 different games and its confusing, plus i have never played 1 FF game, and there's like 100 diff FF games

Yeah, I can see a couple of worlds from the pixar movies.

and I'm sure they can make a world from Toy Story, but it would have a really lame story, it would be fun anyway.

I personally prefer brand new worlds like Traverse Town, Twilight Town and Land of Departure.

I just would like to see a little more Square Enix based worlds. Who wouldn't want to be Sora and ride a chocobo, or not just Final Fantasy. There is The bouncer, Star Ocean, Chrono Trigger, or Dragon Quest. Just saying.

I'd like to see more Final Fantasy involvement as well, but this thread is not about Final Fantasy, it's about Pixar and whether it's a wise choice to use certain films in KH continuity. Though, I'd get such a nerdboner if Chrono Trigger were ever put into KH. I'm a girl. That's how bonertastic it'd be, in that I can spontaneously create one. Such is what Chrono Trigger is capable of.
