Swordplay

Recommended Posts

Does anyone swordplay or spar? Have you ever? I do but not as often as I used to. Me and my neighbor used to do it all the time and we were getting pretty good but we just kinda fell out of it. I even made my own wooden keyblade that looked really cool until it got destroyed in battle. Really, every time one of my good weapons gets broken it goes like this: My neighbor: can I see that for a moment? Me: I guess, but don't break it. *breaks* Seriously, I have never broken my own weapon. Somehow my neighbor seems to do that for me *looks at the last chip of my keyblade and gets teary*. xD You might be interested to know that I spar backhanded, sorta like Ventus but just a little bit different. What are your thoughts about sparring?

My cousin makes EXCELLENT wooden replicas of keyblades. I am the youngest and smallest of the group and I now fight like Mickey, even with the Kingdom Key D, but not nearly as acrobatic and such. My cousin Arturo who actually made the keyblades switches pretty often with keyblades and styles of fighting, or sparring. My other cousin Alonso who is around my age, but older (and bigger >.<) fights different from most KH characters but uses Kingdom Key. My OTHER older cousin uses Riku's keyblade (from kh1, not Soul Eater and not Way to the Dawn) and fights differently. My older sister uses Daimond Dust and fights in no pattern whatseoever. One of my female cousins had One Winged Angel, but doesn't even fight anymore. Another cousin, around my age, was supposed to fight with Oathkeeper but it truned out rather flimsy so she uses Oblivion now and fights in no real pattern. My OTHER OLDER cousin Karoline fights with Pumpkinhead and always has different patterns.

I personally love sparring with those, its really fun yet tiring. For those of you curious enough for ages, this is in order from the first paragraph:

Me with Kingdom Key D: 13

Older cousin Arturo who made keyblades and uses different ones: around 19

Slightly older cousin Alonso with Kingdom Key: 13, but a few months older

Older cousin Danny with Riku's keyblade: around 19

Sister with Diamond Dust: 15

Cousin Brianna who doesn't fight anymore yet had One Winged Angel: 14 or 15

Cousin Viriz with Oblivion rather than Oathkeeper: 13 or 14

Older cousin Karoline: like....15.

So y'all made the keyblades look like the ones in game? How did you get them to look like that but also be sturdy to fight with? I just made a wooden one that looked like a keyblade (pretty much found solid branches, cut them to size, then screwed and glued them together to form a keyblade).

Swordplay. Teehee dirty mind

Dirty....

At Karate we spar with our fists and various weapons. All of the weapons are real except for what would be a Katana which are basically glorified foam swords. We generally don't use them much as a lot of Martial Arts have moves involving disarming and defeating Samurai rather than fighting them sword on sword.

I'm not entirely sure HOW it was made, but most of the keyblades were wood, occasionally a little bit of cardboard for the handles. There was a slight amount of metal keeping it sturdy and hard, not just for the keychains. But most of it was just a really solid wood, and I have no idea what he did with it or where he got it.

Aw, that's too bad that you don't know. I want to make another keyblade eventually and I want to make it as sturdy as I can without compromising any part of the design. Any suggestions anybody?

I love swordplay (I always just call it sword fighting, though). I don't have any professional training, so all my moves are pretty terrible and mostly based off of movies and video games.

I own a variety of swords. I have a wooden training Katana, but I use it more for decoration (its painted black and has a dragon design carved into it, and I don't wanna mess it up). I also have another Japanese Sword (I'm not sure exactly what kind it is, I think its too short to be a Katana), but it is made of metal (cheap metal, not high quality steel that a real sword would be made out of). I use to use it to play real life fruit ninja and slice up boxes (both are really fun), but my brother ended up smacking the blade against asphalt, loosening it. Now it just hangs on my wall. I have two other swords: one is a wooden toy cutlass, and the other is a sword-in-a-walking-cane.

For actually sparring, I either use Nerf Swords or sticks. I really like the Nerf Long Swords, they are of a good size, weight, and quality (sadly, it seems that they are no longer made). The Double Sword is also nice, as it can be used either as two small swords (decent for sparring), or as a two ended sword. Sticks are light, but they hurt and can break.

I don't get to spar very often. My brother no longer likes to, as he always ends up hurt. Other than him, I really have no options.

Almost exactly the same for me except for the katana and stuff, I only use wooden weapons. Instead of my brother, I sparred with my neighbor but we kinda fell out of it although I'm really feeling like doing it again.

Yeah, my friends and I found a friend's foam swords and we're all mostly equally matched. By the way, these were actually good foam swords with PVC pipe as a core, not the ones that are just foam. Even a full strike barely hurts with them. Although, I could probably use anything not sharp I pick up as a weapon. Sweatshirts, lunchboxes, umbrellas, and backpacks are things that I've tried, but I don't even trust myself with most sharp objects.

I do, I do fencing in my free time, as well as that I own two bokken (wooden training katanas for those who don't know) which me and my friend use to practice with each other. It's really fun and I would highly recommend getting yourself into some fencing if you want to try your hand at some swordplay

I spar at my Tae Kwon Do class, but I've outsparred most of the people there(except my teacher) because they're all my age or a little younger than I am. My teacher and I sometimes fight with the wooden katanas, and with bo staffs with padded ends. It's fun. I have an old broomstick at my house that I use as a bo staff and another shorter broom stick that I use as a sword. I'm pretty good with a sword, if I do say so myself, even though I, like most people, just picked up a stick and started swinging it and learning stuff. But my teacher actually trained me with a bo staff, so I'm good at that too. I can do a lot of neat tricks
