Zola 3,038 Posted October 9, 2012 I know this might sound kind of strange, but I really want to know; In the United States, we have regular bacon, and then we have Canadian bacon. In Canada, do you guys call Canadian bacon "bacon" and our bacon "American bacon" or anything like that? Or is it the same? Or do you even know what Canadian bacon is? It has been bothering me lately, and I just realized there were some pretty awesome Canadians on KH13 I could ask. So...?
hatok 6,413 Posted October 9, 2012 Canadian bacon is regular bacon with maple syrup on it,. Just like how Chinese food in the US is mildly Asian foods drenched in fat In Canada, our bacon is normal and non-sweetened, usually. 3 Aqua7KH, Zola and TheApprenticeofKingMickey reacted to this
Dave 5,715 Posted October 9, 2012 It depends. Most of the time what you would call American bacon, we just call bacon, and is generally what you'd find at most grocery stores or diners. We only refer to Canadian bacon as Canadian bacon when it's clear that this is the kind of bacon we're eating (for those not aware, it's a bit more dense, and seems to be served in a slice rather than a strip). So, yeah, it's a phrase we only whip out when we're looking for an excuse to be patriotic. 3 Zola, Kirux and TheApprenticeofKingMickey reacted to this

Loki 1,184 Posted October 9, 2012 What we call canadian bacon is also called back bacon but it can also refer to a type of sliced ham. And in America we have maple bacon, we just usually call it maple flavored bacon for simplicitys sake. I may not be Canadian, but my love affair with bacon knows no bounds. 2 RikuLove416 and hatok reacted to this
