I like them for the extra plot details they put in. Sure, it'd be nice if they could squeeze it into the regular episodes somehow, but too much action goes on for that to happen...

Sure it is extra information, but It could be put into an episode.

It is like what happend to Mekaku City Actors. They could have put the story in the episodes

Yeah...they do go to an academy after all. It wouldn't be too hard to do an episode that has them doing school stuff, and slip in the plot through teacher's lectures.
