So this is a pretty terrifying thought.

"No one seems to know where all of them are and what condition they are in today," he added. "The best guess is that at least 31 million pounds of bombs were dumped, but that could be a very conservative estimate.

Photos taken during surveys show that some of the chemical weapons canisters, such as those that carried mustard gas, appear to be leaking materials and are damaged, Bryant and others on his team reported.

So yeah...that's a wonderful article to read right after waking up. Cause my sleepy brain can barely fathom what would happen if all those explosives went off. Imagine thousands or millions of pounds of mustard gas going off in the ocean. What if, as it seems may be the case, said gas gas already BEEN leaking into our oceans?

Brings into question why they even thought it was a good idea in the first place. Maybe in the late 40's that's the only real way they saw to dispose of it...but all the way up to the 70's? Then you just kinda set it and forget it like it was one of those Ronco Rotisseries for another 40 years? How does that even make sense? Then building oil lines through bomb laden terrain and have drilling to go with it? HOW DOES THAT EVEN SOUND LIKE A GOOD IDEA. WHAT THE CRAP.

I'll be in my bunker.

well considering the fact that those were used as weapons i don't think anyone cared about how it would affect the ocean as they were more concerned about killing the enemy

This was after the war, in peace time. This was to clean up all the bombs, not to use them against people.

In all seriousness though, I'm mildly terrified now. More about mustard gas dissolving into our oceans. That just cannot be good, at all.

Not really as terrified since I don't know the outcome of it as said in the article, but still something to see though.

Im kind of scared but not really.

Im just wondering where all these bombs are, are they only in the Gulf of Mexico or all OVER the seaboards?

Scattered throughout many American sea boards, and Europe as well.

The chemical weapons are a problem, but most explosives are stable until primed for detonation. You could play baseball with a handgrenade. As long as the handle doesn't pop off then nothing will happen.

It's mostly the potentiality of mustard gas slowly leaking into our ocean that's so unsettling.
