He said that sora was his favorite character that he made, this story means a lot to nomura, an average boy who could do so much even though he's nothing special, he's probably just stalling because he doesn't want to mess it up. If it had been out years ago it would have made no sense, we wouldn't know anything about what was going on, we'd have this old Xehanort dude, 6 new Keyblade wielders, one of whom looked like Apprentice Xehanort, and the other one could have been Roxas' clone. We'd also miss substantial character development and backstory.
