KH1 Today marks the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts in North America

Recommended Posts

Wow, 10 years.

I only got into the series around the time Days came out, and I feel like it's been forever since I started playing the series.

That was also the time where I had started writing fan fictions on Final Fantasy VII. I then slowly implemented Kingdom Hearts through Organization XIII. I've actually seemed to have begun writing better so I guess that contributes to my life.

No matter how old I get, I will always follow my (Kingdom) Heart(s).

I remember seeing a commercial for kh1 when I was 7 and thought I was a movie for some reason lol! I had dreams about kh1 and that kinda twisted into what I thought the plot was. (I thought it was about a boy who's heart was stolen and he had to get all the pieces of his heart back.) then my sister bought re com for her gameboy sp and she played it over a vacation that we took and I always was looking over her shoulder asking if I could play. She finally let me and I was hooked. Though when I was near the end she took it back and I haven't seen it since. (I think she sold it) then my sid and her friend started playing kh1 several years later and I watched them occasionally with no real interest until they started kh2. I walk in on them playing when axel introduces himself to Roxas. I freaked out yelling isn't that the guy from that gba game u used to have?! I started playing when they weren't looking and started a new game and I played over thanks giving break and didn't sleep. I cried when axel died and finally beat the game. Then I started kh1 and didn't like it all that much and never finished it because my account got deleted when I was half way through an I didn't feel like doing it all over again. Then I looked up the games name and found that it didn't stop at 2. My dad got me re com that Xmas and then I waited for days and I never got bbs cause I didn't want to buy a consol just for one game and I've played 3d and kh has just always been there in my life. I don't know where id go on the Internet if I never got interested in kh and joined this forum. I can't believe it's been so long I feel so old!!

A yes, i was 8 years old when it first came out. I loved the game since the first time i saw the TV commercial, just cause it had Disney in it. When i finally got to play it was like a storm of emotions inside me. The game immediately became a big part of my life. All of the games that have been released had made me laugh and cry. Kingdom Hearts is a real video game, its a masterpiece, Kingdom Hearts is my passion, and it will forever remain in my heart. No one knows how much Kingdom Hearts means to me, except maybe you guys of course :D. I want everyone else in the world to feel what i feel for Kingdom Hearts. I love Kingdom Hearts from the bottom of my heart.

Id like to thank Tetsuya Nomura and the rest of the staff, thanks to them my life is perfect.

On this day in 2002, ten years ago, Kingdom Hearts released in North America. A collaboration between Square Enix and Disney, Kingdom Hearts was the first game of a series that has sold over 18 million copies to date. Today, the series marks its 10th anniversary.

We are months past the release of the 7th game, Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance], but we still have much to look forward to-- Kingdom Hearts III is all but confirmed to be the next game in the series, and the director, Tetsuya Nomura, has hinted at other developments soon to come.

We'd like to remind you that although there is no confirmation yet, there is a small chance that we might see a Kingdom Hearts announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2012, which starts in only a few days. You can see a countdown to the event on the right-hand side of our homepage.

What is your Kingdom Hearts story? Please leave a comment and let us know how the series has been a big part of your life.

OMG, 10 years since KH came to USA...

I got into KH before I started my first year of High school. I read the KH manga online (shame on me, should've bought books), and suddenly had 50+ bucks, and was walking around in gamestop. What did I do next?

BUY ALL Kingdom Hearts GAMES FOR PS2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (days was not released during the time I bought the ps2 games).

and you get the usual idea, played the games, fell in love with the story, wanting more KH games, calling Nomura the best troll game developer.

I bought days few months after release and BBS on release, and had to hold off for buying KH games for a good while. Until, 2 months ago, I was granted a 3DS, a major upgrade from my broken DS lite. I bought Re. Coded, and played it while waiting for DDD MoM to come out.

then, DDD released, and the usual stuff, played it, story was awesome, and left me with questions.

During my course over 4 years, I learned more about the FF games, and played a couple of them. Found out FF13 came out for XBOX 360 and after price went down, I bought the game. Finished it already. and when I heard about the new characters in DDD, i went online to get info about TWEWY. I have found a game I could relate to. Unfortunately, most gamestops don't have the game, so I'm waiting for the right time, (and when I get cash) I heavily loved the TWEWY songs, and currently waiting to see what other songs are remixed, and new songs that are added into the iOS port.

KH changed my life. That's all I can say.

I just now realized I got KH a year after it came out T_T

I got it in 2003 on Christmas. My sister saw it at the store and suggested that my mom get it for me with the intention of playing it herself because she was also a Disney nerd in high school like I am now. She is to blame for all my nerdyness x3 I used to watch her play it all night and I was awful at playing it (like, almost-threw-the-controller-across-the-room awful xD). I was scared to fight the Heartless ._.' So whenever she took a break I just read the reports xD

A few years and several times beating the game only for it to get suck in the credits later..... We got KH2 and I actually tried playing it this time (and I got annoyed when she got farther than me). Funny enough at the beginning of the game she thought Roxas was Sora and was positive that they looked alike, and I stuck to them being different people xD (dang it, she was kinda right >_>). She eventually got to Xigbar and got stuck. Many alternating attempts and months later I beat him, and I rubbed it in her face, especially since I beat Saix and Xemnas as well :3 Then I went back and beat KH1 and KH2 all by myself and became the complete nerdy fangirl I am today~

The commercial got me so riled up! I couldn't wait for it to come out! Sadly, I bought Kingdom Hearts in 2005, after years of jealousy of my older cousin who had a PS2 and no desire to buy the game. My dad finally bought us both, and I played it excitedly, until I got to Deep Jungle and my frustration with Clayton got the better of me, so I quit and forgot about it. Then, I saw a clip of Sora hugging Kairi in Hollow Bastion on YouTube and I scREAMED I loved them so much so I started playing again and beat Clayton, the rest I just instantly fell in love with. My best friend and I bonded over it, and KH2 when that came out the year after. We'd meet up at my house and eat junk food and play it for hours. Our sleep overs were rad and we got into the editing scene all together, too. Needless to say, Kingdom Hearts has changed my life a whole lot, and even though that friend and I don't talk anymore, I couldn't imagine my life without this game/franchise. Thanks for the greatest decade :')

Ah, this almost brings me to tears... 10 years ago my brothers and I saw the game and thought "final fantasy + Disney = EPIC" so we bought it and began playin. Next thing I know I countin down till the next game... and then the next game... and then the next game... Each game got better and better and hooked me further! This game has literally been my childhood and then some! And of course each KH had me wanting more Riku until in KHII I got to PLAY AS HIM!!! (though it was only for like a minute or so) xP But the real game that had me running and screaming like a little fangirl was Dream Drop Distance when I played as RIKU during the game!!! *thinks back to all the drop me nots and excessive dropping from Sora over to Riku* KH rocks!!! Can't wait until KH 3!!!!

I believe I told my story before but once again won't hurt with different details.

I didn't really follow the series by playing all the games to be honest (the only game I finished myself without too many help from my brother is KHBBS), but the story of KH series itself was amazing, the idea behind it was really cool, and I greatly enjoyed it.

It's really rare for an RPG game to be fully enjoyed by me, so KH series is really special for me.

Kingdom Hearts is one of the greatest video game series :)

And I have a KH story too.

When Kingdom Hearts appeared in a commercial.

I was with my cousin, playing Pokémon Silver on the GBC.

I looked into the TV, and I remember seeing Sora and Sephiroth, and I said "New Final Fantasy!!!"

I have others, but they're pretty embarrassing :P

The first game i played when my dad bought me a ps2 was kh2. I still remember my sister was all: "wow taha, hate to bursts your bubble but that's a kid's game". Then she saw the opening vid and loved it, specially Roxas. After that i hadn't played KH for a long time ( i thought the series ended at kh2) until last year when i decided to look for some kh songs and i came across ventus' theme. It was then that i came to know that kh was still running and much more famous then i expected. And now i'm here x3

I remember like it was yesterday.

At my school, they were having a book fair. I saw a Kingdom Hearts manga. At that time, I didn't know what Kingdom Hearts was, but I loved anime. It was KH2. I flipped through some of the pages and I said to myself "This looks pretty interesting." So I bought it. Then, I saw 358/2 Days at Sams Club. I bought it, and played it and loved it. That's when I started getting more into the series.

That's my Kingdom Hearts story~

LOL that sucked.

I've been addicted to it since i first got my hands on it (KH1). I was eight when I got it and now I'm eighteen! Ten years and seven games later, nothing about this relationship with KH has changed. I still play it, still pull all-nighters with it, keep replaying it as if I'll find something new each time and somehow I do! I'm still living my KH story and hopefully I'll keep living it till the very end!

This goes for every game in the series!

Haha, when I was 8 (now I'm 15) I remember that I cryed when my older brother wanted to leave home. I said:"But how am I gonna beat games without you?" I never finished any games without him. Now I beat some games that he can't xD

Guys, awesome storys. I was always fascinated with games, because I've never had much friends only one, and he doesn't like KH very much.Even I've been part of this story for just one year, I think on this series all the time, hear songs from it, see videos and think about it everywhere. I was starting to think that I'm getting obsessed with it. I didn't even play other games for some time, and cried when my KH I copy didn't worked. But now, with all this storys I saw here, I see I'm not the only one. That's why I like KH13. This is the best place for us, KH fans, to join together and share our storys. KH13 unites KH fans from all over the world. I'm from Brazil, for example. Now I see I'm not obsessed with it, I'm just a big fan, just like you all.

Thanks KH13!!! I'm very happy of being part of this forum!!!

My god. It truly has been awhile... My sister first introduced me to KH back when it first released in '02. I remember being scared of fighting Darkside and having my sis fight it for me. I also remember me and my sisters watching Sora, Riku, and Kairi sitting on the palm trees. If you sat right behind us, you'd swear we were imitating them. After some time, we've all (including me slightly, only slightly!) have lost interest but if there's one thing that'll never change even if I never play KH again is my love for it. Thank you, KH! Happy 10th!

:)
