Oniaku 280 Posted September 16, 2012 Does anyone else think that FF9 was better than FF7? I mean, FF7 was supposed to be the best ever, but FF9's plot just hooked me more, and the gameplay was better. I think the only thing I like better was Sephiroth as a villian. I dunno, something about Kuja just felt... Not right. 1 axele reacted to this
Sora96 17,256 Posted September 16, 2012 Nope. You better hope it's not the best ever. Otherwise we wont be getting a remake. 1 coolwings reacted to this
Hei 3,233 Posted September 16, 2012 FF9 may be good, but FF7 was a lot more innovative. I guess you could compare it to Nintendo's Ocarina of Time, being one of the best games ever made. On another note, FF7 NEEDS a remake. 1 RikuVazquez reacted to this
Xion1910 25 Posted September 16, 2012 I played FF7 first and I like it more than FF9, I wouldn't say FF7 is better than FF9 though, they both have different styles and thats what makes a final fantasy game interesting
Weiss 8,279 Posted September 16, 2012 I'd say FF9 was REALLY good, but for me FF7 is better.
Master Keeper 687 Posted September 16, 2012 If Final Fantasy VII wasn't that good, they wouldn't make a MOVIE for it with Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus 2 RikuVazquez and Weiss reacted to this
King Riku 2,063 Posted September 16, 2012 FF9 was alright, but FFVII was epic. One of my favorite Final Fantasy games. And Advent Children was a great movie. Just saying >>

I dunno, something about Kuja just felt... Not right. I much prefer Kuja to Sephiroth. His psychosis is much more intriguing. He tries to come off as this aloof, condescending Angel, but this is only to cover up a severe Napoleon complex. He wants to be the best, he dedicates his whole life to being the most powerful thing on Earth, and yet at the back of his head, there's that nagging buzz which tells him Zidane is simply better, and this fuels his desire to kill and destroy in order to convince himself and others that he should be the subject of their fear and admiration. Also, I love a good tragedy, and the moment where Kuja has finally accomplished everything he has set out for in life, only to have it revealed that he's doomed, is a fantastic moment of pathos. IX is much better than VII. The cast is more fully fleshed out, the story is more coherent, the plot flows much more naturally, and the fan service is substantially less (seriously. Cut the motorcycle chase out of VII. Is anything lost? No.). Gameplaywise, I was never a fan of the materia system, and I think the ability system of IX takes less micromanaging and is easier to grasp. Gameplaywise, I was never a fan of the materia system, and I think the ability system of IX takes less micromanaging and is easier to grasp. Not to mention that FFVII is only considered so great because of the nostalgia factor. It was the first on the PS, so the first to have 3D rendered graphics. It was also the first Final fantasy to become a huge success in America, turning a lot of people into JRPG fans. They made the movie (which I did like) and the spin off games (which weren't so great). Crisis Core was only good because it fleshed out Zach and Aerith as characters. That's really what all the spin offs were about to be honest; fleshing out the casts' characters. Which is saying a lot about the original game in my opinion. I hope they don't make a remake. If they're smart; they won't. When things get remade, things get changed and tweeked and that messes up the nostalgia factor. With a game that is so beloved by its fan, if they even have Cloud breath the wrong way, there will be an outrage. As a company, I would much rather deal with fans being unhappy about a game not getting a re-release, than having disappointed fans whose childhood has been tarnished do to a poorly executed revamp. That being said; I like FFIX a lot more than VII. The story is much more engaging for me. The characters are a bit more relateable, and have much better personalities than its predecessor. The game play is also smoother and I do so adore the learn abilities through equipment system. But that is just my personal opinion.
hatok 6,413 Posted September 17, 2012 I love how anybody who picks VII doesn't feel the need to give a reason or basis for their opinion, but fans of IX write a small essay about it. I think it shows a level of depth to IX that, unfortunately, goes over the heads of a lot of players. IX is by no means my favourite Final Fantasy, but it's damn near the top. I actually kind of feel like people love VII for the same reason a lot of people love Kingdom Hearts; they both have a habit of making people feel like they are dealing with deep characters, and a coherent plot... in the moment. It's only through analysis that you'll start to see VII or Kingdom Hearts crumble. I don't want to say IX is flawless. It has its share of quirks and odd moments, but it's probably the most solid Final Fantasy out of all of them. The story really flows. You have big moments, and small moments. Humour, drama, sadness, tragedy... and it's all deftly woven together by excellent gameplay. Honestly, I could keep going, but I'll keep this short. IX is better than VII. Or VIII. Or X. Or XII. Or XIII. 1 axele reacted to this

I was totes about to like that post until you said IX was better than XII, and I can't truly agree to that. :< I love how anybody who picks VII doesn't feel the need to give a reason or basis for their opinion, but fans of IX write a small essay about it. I've noticed that too. FFVII fans are just about rabid about their love for it, but can never tell me why. I find it silly.
