Think of it this way. Are you more scared of a psychotic clown shooting spells at you and laughing like a maniac. Or are you more scared of a cry baby momma's boy who mentions mother way to much and has a big sword

Sephiroth has a reason to his madness, and a compelling backstory to boot. Kefka is just insane.

Then again, Kefka would make a great secret boss in KH3!

Personally, my favorite FF villain is the ever unpopular Caius.

Caius unpopular ? lol Caius is the shit, and i'v seen few disagree with that even if they didn't like the game.

But I would have to go with Sephiroth just due to his presence. Kefka kept running away from you and needed to use many tricks to fight. Sephiroth was pure power, but you only fight him once, which ruins him quite a bit.

I am a sucker for the calm and collected villians though, and the fact that Sephiroth was once actually a decent person made him more interesting. Kefka, well I don't know if he was good before the experiments made him crazy, but it's very doubtful.

Neither

Because The Empereor not only took over earth, but heaven and hell as well. So he's triple the badass. Sephiroth tried and failed and Kefka destoryed 1/2 of the world and then sat like a lazy fatass in his castle; too lazy to try and find the remote so he stayed on the sofa.

So yeah, Empy all the way.

About Kefka being always crazy somebody found a very rare report on Kefka that showed that he was rejected by his parents, then mentally abused physically and mentally ( he was raped ) and he had a hobby of making puppets of being that he hated and always abused the puppets. He also like mirrors and seeing his own relfection in the mirror as well. When he joined the Empire he didn't stop with the puppet "hobby" and his favourite puppet to abuse and mess with was Leo.

So basically he's Gau with a different way of coping with his rejection and more. Though it makes so much sense on why Kefka doesn't believe that there is friendship or love and doesn't understand the emotions of love and friendship and why during the final battle he didn't go ballastic. He problery half-wanted to be hated and destoryed.

^ It's not always what they accomplish due to differing cicumstances. I can't say much more on the Emporer though due to no interests in his character or his game.

The Kefka stuff sounds like crap in places, but i'v yet to really look into it myself.

This age old topic?

Neither. It doesn't matter who's greater. It only matters that they fulfilled their role as antagonist and that fans loved them for what they did. Comparing two villains from the same series is like comparing which Shakespeare play you like best. It's pointless. Those who favor one will never relent towards the other. Besides, as I've said before, they're both great in their own right.

I love that when people are asked why they like Sephiroth, at least half of the time it has to do with him either being cool or looking pretty. In fact, the prime reason that I can never take Sephiroth seriously as a villain is because he’s too damn pretty. He’s supposed to be the epitome of all evil, and yet fanboys are either squeeing over his luscious locks or dying to their hands on a sword like that. I don’t know, gouge out an eye or something. It’ll make me take him at least a little more seriously. If a guy kills the only person with a decent healing spell in the whole of the game, crash a whopping big meteor into the planet, and kill an awful lot of people in the process, and people still want to make out with this person… you’re doing it wrong!

In all seriousness, I actually like Sephiroth’s character a great deal. I love the idea of the ultimate soldier finding out all that made him powerful was not his to begin with, and with everything that made him great now denied, the only solace he can find is in the presence of a Mother figure, essentially regressing from a stoic and calm adult to an almost childlike state. I’m a sucker for a good tragedy. Also, though I wasn’t a huge fan of Crisis Core, I actually liked how it delved further into Sephiroth’s character and backstory: he always had something of an ego, yet still even he managed to have friendship, though never strong enough to stop him from doing what he wanted anyways.

The problem is that, while having a good character, Sephiroth is not very good as a villain within Final Fantasy VII, primarily because he’s barely present in the story. The Sephiroth you see most of the time is merely his Jenova cells playing dress-up, while the real Sephiroth is busy taking a snooze. Even his iconic moment with Aerith isn’t actually him. The most active we see him is via flashback in Nibelhiem, and when your main villain’s last evil act was over five years ago, it’s hard to feel his presence in the plot. If anything, I would consider Jenova the main villain of Final Fantasy VII, given that she’s the one who’s constantly getting in the way, she’s the one who’s fighting and harassing you, and just generally has more presence in the game. You could even read it as Jenova trying to summon Sephiroth back from the dead, giving her almost a goal and motivation to her ends.

Conversely, you have Kefka, who performs his function as a villain magnificently. From the beginning of the game, he has a presence in the action, from having his mind control on Terra to ordering the secret attack on Narshe. The wonderful thing about Kefka is that he’s actually there: he’s not off in some ivory tower plotting and planning, he’s on the ground doing a lot of awful things. Your hatred to him is not simply for his plans and plots, but for his actions on an everyday basis. He wipes out Doma, tortures an awful lot of espers, is responsible for a great many deaths, and is generally a walking sack of despicable. He does his own dirty work, he does it very well, and you are more inclined to hate him for it. All the evil that happens can be tied directly to Kefka’s hands, making him to the object of the heroes’ hatred and the need to defeat him specifically all the more compelling.

Also, Kefka benefits from his plan not suffering from too many moving parts, namely because it relies mostly on himself. His plan is to become more powerful, and to that end, he seeks and absorbs new Espers. I’ve never been a fan of plans such as Xehanort’s in Birth By Sleep because they rely far too much on someone other than the villain doing something very specific and not deviating from a set path. If it winds up succeeding, it’s only because the plot railroad made it so, and more often than not it’s far too convoluted. Sephiroth’s plan of uniting his Jenova cells suffers from this too (what if Cloud had died and wasn’t able to bring him the Black Materia? Do we even have a plan B?). With Kefka, the age old rule of Keep It Simple, Stupid works just fine. He wants the Esper in Narshe, so he sends in his favorite Terra to nab it. When this fails, he goes to get it for himself. He wants to be more powerful, so he starts dipping into the Esper reserves. The only time he really counts on others is when Leo is sent on a mission to make peace with the Espers, and even then, it makes sense that he can rely on the ultra boy-scout to see the task through. This simple but effective form of planning not only saves the viewer from a game of spot the plot hole, but also makes Kefka a better villain in the process: he can do what he wants, when he wants, without relying on the stars aligning to make things work. So, of course, when he ultimately becomes a God, it has come about as a result of his own abilities (or, in this case, his own ability at stealing other people’s abilities, but that theft comes about from his own powers), and makes him seem like more of a threat as a whole. It’s not the plan that’s evil, it’s Kefka, and it’s Kefka that must be defeated.

My reply to anyone who thinks top shouldn't be Sephiroth due to his looks. If you ever looked into why he looks that way is Square Enix tried to make him look inhuman, all of his detail from his height to him not having to blink all was comprised to give him the more alien/monster feel. I say Sephiroth for that reason and because he is also basic he could be "god-like" from the start, but he wasn't he was a normal humanoid under situations to make him insane. If you're looking for a real nasty villain look into Hojo. All in all the complexity of 7 at the time gave it that rightful place and come on can't we be happy to have JRPG's have a spot light for once. If you like Kefka or if you like Sephiroth or maybe even Golbez it doesn't matter who is better what matters is we keep our favorites and support our Game designers and help them create more of what we like that way people can have awesome memories and continue to enjoy the things they enjoy for years to come.

So game on fans game on!

P.S. not that we shouldn't have these fights this is what separates the 'play once fans' and the 'die hard fans'
