Final Fantasy XIII Teaser Site Revealed

Recommended Posts

I'm quite curious as to how XIII-3 will be.

I never finished XIII-2 but from borrowing my friend's copy and playing it for three days straight, I can tell the gameplay is a huge improvement from the previous entry.

XIII tries to bring in new story elements and presentation and they pretty much nailed it. The only problem was that the gameplay was quite linear and was considered "easy" to most veteran players. It was more of a rollercoaster ride for me but still had a good time going through the story.

I am rather curious as to how the game will turn out to be and see how the conclusion is gonna be if there will be one.

what I'm about to say is less directed at you and more of an overall statement.

Why do people hate sequel hooks in videogames so much? I mean SO MANY people are so AFFRONTED by being FORCED to play another game to continue the story. The thing I don't get is that movies and books get away with this all the time. Nobody ever said the sixth Harry Potter book shouldn't have had a sequel, and instead just had a downloadable e-book that has the content the book SHOULD have had from the start instead of FORCING people to buy a whole new one.

Yet a game can offer a lot more in a sequel than most other media. Unlike most things, a game can have a mediocre story in a sequel, but still be worthwhile for the gameplay, and vice versa.

I mean seriously, videogames almost never get planned sequels because so many people will just irrationally hate it. Why are videogames treated like this when they have so many facets to draw redeeming qualities from?

This is a long post. Just to warn you.

Firstly, my main complaints with FFXIII was the game play, so much so that I couldn't finish the game. I felt limited in where I could go and what I could do, and I felt they automated the characters a bit too much. Sure FFXII had the gambit system, but I still spent a lot of time in the menus casting spells. Needless to say, I was expecting something more from XIII and stopped not to far into the game. I never tried FFXIII-2, and I try not to comment on it. I heard it was okay, but I'm not motivated enough to confirm this myself.

My comment on why it needs to end isn't because I hate video game sequels, or even games that end in cliffhangers. If I did hate them, I don't think I would be on a KH website, seeing as KH is maybe the mother of all cliffhangers. There is one MAJOUR difference KH and FF though;

KH is meant to be a series of connected plot related games, with each main game continuing the plot of the previous. FF has a long standing tradition of all of their main titles being unrelated whatsoever, while each individual title presents the player with a beautiful expanse world, amazing storyline, and gorgeous music. Sure, occasionally along the way they had a numered title sequel; FFIV The After Years, which came years after ward and didn't take away from the development of other FFs, and FFX-2.

Now if I recall correctly, X-2 came out around the same time of XI, maybe about a year later. This makes sense, seeing as not everyone is into MMORPGs, but still wanted a new FF game. FFX was another game I didn't particularly like, but that was more because I dislike nearly every character. I played FFX-2 mostly because my dad bought it for me, thinking it was FFXII. I played it as to not disappoint him and I really rather enjoyed the style of play, the story and characters were still irritating, but it was fun.

Nothing was released for FF except side games and FFXI expansions until FFXII came out in 2006. After FFXII, which I played and have played many times I love the shit outta that game, there were some spin offs and side games but nothing happened until FFXIII in 2009. I got into the hype a little, played it, was majourly disappointed and walked away. As did many people. Almost everyone I know. FFXIV was a bust of a MMO that was released far too early, and a couple months after it was released we got FFXIII-2. This seems to be a pattern for Square and their online FFs, they seem to know that not everyone is interested, so they release a sequel to the last numerical title to tide us over for the next one in the series.

I, however; don't want to wait another three years for FFXV. And all this FFXIII centric madness that has possessed SE seems to just be adding to that time. If FFXIII-3 is coming out, and we're all still waiting for Versus, and they have a dev team trying to fix FFXIV...that leads me to believe that they haven't even started FFXV yet. This greatly disappoints me, seeing as how a majority of the fanbase is waiting for it, but they keep giving us games a good portion of us don't care about. This is why I would love to see them have morphed Versus into FFXV, but I know they won't because it has 6 years of FFXIII Versus labeling attached to it.

I am an avid fan of Final Fantasy. It's the entire reason I am a gamer, and the only reason I played Kingdom Hearts. I *have* played all the numerical titles; and a vast majority of side games. I may not have finished them all, but I still tried playing them. FInal Fantasy is one of those franchises where you DON'T have to love every title to still be a fan of the series. There is, however; a point at where every person draws a line. All of the FFXIII shit year after year is wearing me, and many many others, thin. We're tired of the same title every year, especially seeing as A LOT of us don't even like the game it was based on. This is why everyone says the Final Fantasy series is dying, and sometimes I start to believe them. If their huge annoncement is FFXIII-3 and not Versus I will be hugely disappointed, and my faith in SE to continue the FF series will be severely dashed.

All I can say is that you should give XIII-2 a try. As far as I can tell, it either fixes or makes more bearable any problems you had with the first game. It's no longer ridiculously linear; the maps are hugely more complex. You also often have choices of where you want to go next, letting you progress the plot in various ways.

Honestly, this game, to me anyways, feels like the closest approximation to a classic FF game by modern standards. there are all sorts of obscure secrets and cutscenes, and references to other FF game. And the game knows to take itself lightheartedly from time to time as well, something FF games seem to be slowly forgetting.

really, when it comes down to it, it's hard to even call it a sequel to FF XIII. Sure, there are some characters in common with it. I mean, Lightning is the focus. But recently I've gone back and played the start of XIII again and... it's almost alien to the other game. It's kind of weird seeing a more literal take on fantasy after the more sci-fi prequel.

But that's what I like about it.

XIII-2 will probably be twenty bucks pretty soon... I suggest getting it. :P

THEY DIDN'T GIVE FINAL FANTASY X A 3RD GAME. IT'D BE LIKE X-3.

INSTEAD THEY GET AN HD REMAKE WHICH MADE ALL THE VII FANBOYS and girls RAGE.

Lighting became an angel or something right? Bear with me since I only played XIII and not XIII-2.

Final Fantasy XV isn't even ANNONCED. How can you be waiting for it if it doesn't exist yet?

I just have to finish Final Fantasy XIII, and I'll get XIII-2. I've heard good things about it.

Um that's the point of waiting for something? Half Life 3 doesn't exist and people are still waiting for it. KH3 doesn't exist and everyone here is still waiting for it. What does an object's existence have to do with a person's desire for it?

Because there's nothing to wait for. AT ALL. With Kingdom Hearts 3 and Half Life 3, unless they troll us, you basically know what's coming. (Characters, etc.) Final Fantasy XV is going to be completely different, and the only hints are in the recent games. (Maybe gameplay. OR they could completely change it again.) Edited by Number XV

Yes, but it will be made. It will exist. SE isn't just going to stop making FF. I don't know what XV is going to be about, and that's whats exciting about it. I want to know what they make. I want to experience another mind blowing world filled with wondrous things. So, until SE stops making Final Fantasy, I will always await word of the next game they make with bated breath, because as a fan that's what I do.

Or they stop making Final Fantasy. We don't know. That's like saying they HAVE to make it.

That's like saying HL3 HAS to exist, too.

I highly doubt after they finish Versus and get XIV running properly that SE is going to end the franchise that is one of the majour sources of their income and is the sole reason for their existence today. Sure, it COULD happen, but it is highly unlikely.

I also find that waiting for a game like KH3 and HL3 are easier to wait for because, as you said, we know roughly what's going to happen and who is going to be in it. For a game like FFXV the possibilities are endless and I truly can't wait to see what they come up with for it. ESPECIALLY if the "Final Fantasy Tech Demo" SE showed at E3 was concept of FFXV, which a lot of people have speculated on.

They probably haven't started. I'm just saying I look forward more to Versus 13.

Sigh... should have been Versus :C. I read that was cancelled though...oh well, life goes on.

Man, they must really love Final Fantasy 13 though if this is a third game for the story.

I don't really hate or despise the Final Fantasy XIII games, though it really should of stopped with Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Because of the new saga, games that were promised a long time ago are getting pushed back futher and futher away, which is unfair on those who have been waiting.

Final Fantasy Versus doesn't really sound amazing to me personally, but people have been waiting for seven years now. That's some serious waiting time.
